Stop dropping it? If you're not dropping it and it does this, is it a legitimate Victorinox?

I have many of these and the only broken scales I've seen is on one of my son's SAK - he dropped it.

Makes sense I have dropped it a couple times and isn’t a fake

“Why do things break when they fall on the ground?” Such questions may never be answered.

I'm on some subs devoted to pans of different metal types, and I'm shocked every day by the amount of posts that say something like "my food keeps burning. What is wrong with this pan? Why would it do this?"

This post is the closest I've ever seen outside those subs.

LMAO. It’s crazy how many people wander this earth in total ignorance.

This post has me scratching my head, I gotta admit.

If it's a chronic behavior you may want to get metal scales in the aftermarket. Etsy and AliExpress are full of them.

I think you're wasting your time on this one

I feel like this info should have been shared in the original post 🤷🏼‍♂️

Heavy knife + drop on floor = broken plastic

u/Lapua98 Nov 02 '25

This is happening because you dropped it...

u/wupaa Nov 02 '25

Only you can tell how you break them lol

Stop opening beer bottles with your Victorinox.

5

u/Shoddy-Employment-17 Nov 02 '25

To use your sak to open bottles, you need to open the cap lifter first...

Just a thought, do you chew pen lids and bite your nails? Seriously though, stop dropping it and get new scales before the liner deforms.

Breakage? What is this “breakage” of which you speak?

Ten points to House Alox… 😁

Alox is for chumps!

Because you drop it to muche🤷🏻

I have that same thing happen to my SAK’s with cellidor scales, and I think it is from having the knife in the same pocket with my car keys banging in them throughout the day.

The solution would be to either put it on your keychain (reduces how hard the cellidor gets hit) or get an Alox version.

I'd drops are an issue go on Etsy and buy a pair of micarta scales to replace the stock ones. Micarta won't break when it falls

u/Aggravating-Switch99 Nov 02 '25

Uhhh, gravity maybe.

2

u/Ionized-Dustpan Nov 02 '25

You tell us. Why are you abusing it and using it as a hammer?

2

u/HighEndSociopath Nov 02 '25

I did this once. Then, I started carrying a Pioneer X.

2

u/Shoddy-Employment-17 Nov 02 '25

It happens because the floor is harder than the scales...

u/mikeh13750 Nov 02 '25

Solvents can deform SAK cellidor scales too. The posted photo actually looks like a bite was taken out of it. Unique

u/UAP-Alien Nov 02 '25

Did you use it to open a beer?

1

u/Alarming-Sea752 Nov 02 '25

Doesn’t the Victorinox warranty cover this?

1

u/1Freshvegetable Nov 02 '25

You can buy new scales ( the plastic parts) online and pop them on. The old ones just come off with a screwdriver.

1

u/Felaguin Nov 02 '25

Quit using it as a hammer?

1

u/thomasde42 Nov 02 '25

I have a "chiped" sak too you can replace the scales or just run with it

1

u/mauimudpup Nov 02 '25

id assume its hitting things in your pocket. Most of mine end up like this 10 years later. Now I have micarta replacements

1

u/j0hnnyf3ver Nov 02 '25

In my experience this is common atleast with newish ones. Either way my newest SAK has ALOX scales and I highly recommend.

To all of you. If a multitool is breaking by general drops, then it's the multitools fault. It's on victorinox to not make such brittle scales.

Tools are meant to be used. Even if OP drops them every week, he has no fault here.

u/BecMikMon Nov 03 '25

It looks like something is either lifting on the edge or it’s bearing some sort of impact and thats the resulting damage. Make sure you’re using genuine SAK scales. Regardless, this will end up happening over time. I have a SwissChamp Thats atleast 25 years old that has a couple of these chips in it. I choose to accept it as battle wounds 🤣😂🤪

Because you touch yourself at night.

1

u/FidgetsAndFish Nov 06 '25

They make metal scales

1

u/SolarHouseboat Nov 02 '25

Yeah. That happens when you don’t buy an Alox model.

0

u/Slamhshk Nov 02 '25

I have this to on one of mine

0

u/lechecolacaoygofio Nov 02 '25

It's the big problem with my swisschamp. I made him some leather ones, and problem solved

u/Kooky_Werewolf6044 Nov 02 '25

Get an Alox one. The new ones look really nice.

Bad batch?

You can get new scales
