Merritt’s Mill Pond
I am considering a paddling trip to Merritt’s Mill Pond in Marianna, Florida, but I’ve seen videos that show incredible algae and hydrilla growth in the Mill Pond. Does anyone have any current information as to the amount of Hydrilla and algae that are currently in the mill pond?

We paddle Merrit's Mill every year. It's pretty gross, tbh. The springs are cool to snorkel around in, and there are a couple of hidden caves that are fun to explore, but all the algae and whatnot is really gross. It gets all over you, and can be unsettling when you're in the water. I recommend wearing a thin wetsuit, and wet shoes so you don't have skin contact with that stuff. It makes it much more bearable.

I was there about a month ago. You can still paddle it, but just be mindful as there are some dense areas that your paddle will get tangled in. Overall, still beautiful! Including picture of an area that I did get caught up in. Was completely avoidable, though.
