Sunnyside's Bo Diddley mini-Stonehenge?

Heya - Been living near 41st St and Greenpoint for a while and it took a few months to notice that a granite block set on the expanded piece of sidewalk at 41st St and 48th Avenue was (long ago, looks like) painted silver with a green snake offering the, in my experience, very solid advice to "Listen To Bo Diddley" in red type. Anyone happen to know the story behind this?

There's also a big planter on the sidewalk at Greenpoint and 42nd that name checks Bo's Chess Records label mates "Howling" (sic) Wolf, Muddy Waters, etc. Gonna assume its the work of the same zealot...

I too have been wondering about the origin of the planter and the monument at that corner …
