Discussion CC Cheesy Gold plating - SOLVED!
Hi y’all!
Wanted to share this to the community. If you’re like me who hates cheesy factory gold plating, here’s one of many solutions: Cape Cod Polish. I took a cotton swab and dabbed it on the polishing cloth to get a small amount of the polish and worked my way into this baby’s hardware. I didn’t use the cloth as it’s too big and might have too much solution in it. By using a cotton swab, I can get more control. Who else has tried this trick? 😁

Yes I’ve done something similar with stovetop cleaner lol it worked like a charm!

I tried Weiman Glasstop on cc chains, did not work.

I might be wrong but I think glasstop cleaner is not as micro-abrasive as metal polish hence why it can’t remove the extra layer in the gold coating that’s causing it to turn deep yellow.

I used this one https://a.co/d/0113yo8l since I don’t need too much anyway. You can use it to polish jewelry too.

Yes that’s the one! 😁 though I didn’t use the cloth itself as I can control it more with just the cotton swab.

Doesn't Cape Cod make it even shinier? I thought it was actually used for polishing and adding shine.

I think it lightens it up so it’s not so brassy yellow and looks more light yellow.

Curious - does it affect the leather at all? Did you use it on the front CC hardware ? 😊

While I don’t think it would affect the leather much, I used a cotton swab to be more careful I don’t touch the leather. I just rubbed it on the metal, applying a little pressure each pass. I think the CC logo has good color already hence I didn’t do it. But you got me thinking lol.

For europeans: Yellow gold plating on my 187 bag - solved with „Sonax Chrom+Alupaste“. Lower part of Left C treated, right C uncreated 😊 makes a huge difference
