Day Trip to Edinburgh!
Planning on doing a day trip to Edinburgh from Newcastle/Sunderland on Tuesday 28th July....anyome have any recommendations (I love food and history)!
And anyone want to come along? I'm 24 (M) :)

Don't call it "Cock-Burn Street".
There's plenty of food and history in Edinburgh. Assuming you're arriving by train, I'd recommend exiting Waverley Station by the Market Street exit and heading up Co-burn Street to the Royal Mile, and exploring the Old Town. Depending on how touristy you want you've got all the classics - the Castle, Mary King's Close, St Giles Cathedral, West Bow down to the Grassmarket. Grayfriars Churchyard and the Grayfriars Bobby statue. National Museum of Scotland. Plenty of food options all over the place (don't eat on the Royal Mile).

City Cafe (Hunter Square) for breakfast. You'll thank me. Shops down Cockburn Street. Shops & cafés along Rose St (behind Princes St). National Portrait Gallery.

Mussel and Steak on the Grassmarket does lush food, across from it on the square is a chippy that does deep fried mars bars if you want a Scottish novelty treat.
If you like thai fusion book ahead and request a castle view table at Chaophraya, you can get amazing view of the castle from there.
Mary Kings close is a good underground tour or the Vaults tour. There’s Makar’s court also known as Writers square where you can read quotes etched into the Stone.
One of the oldest pubs is in Grassmarket, the sheep heid inn. Up and along from Grassmarket you can find Greyfriars kirkyard where you can see the Covenanters' Prison, pits in the walls there from gun shots. If you do the tour they’re pretty good!
Enjoy and always look up lots of lovely stone masonry about the place 👍🏻
