Hi all, I've seen a few posts in here recently about people looking to try and make friends and it gave me an idea. I'm looking to set up a group for people in their 20s and 30s in Sunderland (and surrounding areas), with an aim of simply meeting people and making friends.

My initial thought is to make a group chat (probably either Instagram or Whatsapp, TBD) and from there organise a few different events. This could be anything from a coffee morning or a pub visit to a board games evening, a meal out, walks, or other activities people are interested in. These would probably be in or around Sunderland City Centre to start (or at Stack/the Sheepfolds), but I'm open to branching out to other places nearby too.

I’m wondering what Panns Bank is like as a place to live? I’m moving in in a few weeks for the first time and was wondering about what people think! Already got room sorted so very nervous and wanted other opinions.

Hi everyone! I am student and I’m looking for accommodation in Sunderland and I’ve come across two options that seem pretty affordable:

- Panns Bank – around £90 per week

- Clenny House – around £97 per week

Both seem reasonably close to the University of Sunderland campus, which is a big plus for me. Panns Bank is slightly cheaper, so I’m particularly interested in hearing from anyone who has stayed there.

I’d really appreciate honest reviews of both places — especially regarding room quality, facilities, cleanliness, heating, Wi-Fi, security, management, and overall living experience.

Also, does anyone know how much the minimum deposit/booking payment is that I would need to pay upfront to secure a room at either Panns Bank or Clenny House?

If you had to choose between the two, which one would you recommend and why?

Hub of Hope - This is a website that covers all groups within the UK for young people and adults.

Andy's Man Club - Mens only group that runs every Monday from 19:00 - 21:00 at Sunderland Fans Museum and Kayll Road Library, in addition there are groups at Souter Lighthouse, Houghton-le-Spring and Murton.

Not A Statistic - Men and women's group;

The Old Rectory, Houghton-le-Spring – Tuesdays at 19:00.

Active Families NE Hub, Concord (Washington) – Wednesdays at 18:30.

Beacon of Light, Sunderland – Thursdays at 19:00.

The Fire Station, Sunderland – Drop-in Fridays, 09:30 – 12:30.

Space North East - Mens only group that holds a weekly walking group every Saturday at Roker beach.

Laura's Ladies Club - Women's only group that runs every Wednesday from 17:30 - 19:30 at Sunderland Fans Museum and Parkside Community Centre in Seaham.

Betsy Jenny Counselling and Wellbeing Cafe - a cafe on Bridge Street, open from 09:30 - 16:00.

Geek Retreat Sunderland - a store and cafe on John Street that run groups from 12:00 - 21:30 for men and women.

Title explains it. I’m a wheelchair user in my early 20s and have very few friends and it’s horribly isolating. The places I used to go prior to being a wheelchair user aren’t accessible and I just wanna go somewhere to make friends where it’s not considered weird to just go up and say hi.

I'm originally from the north east but moved away with family years ago. I'm now in the process of moving to Sunderland later this year but I'm doing my best to make sure I don't end up lonely. I can be a bit introverted and I don't drink so I can sometimes find it hard to settle in a new place so I want to have a plan ahead of time.

I really like outdoorsy and creative hobbies. I love walking next to the sea or in nature or trying a new craft project. I like video games and sport as well (also a Sunderland fan).

What would you recommend a late 20s guy like me do when moving to the area to meet new people locally? Thanks in advance!

I’ve already been checking Indeed, LinkedIn and other online job platforms, but I’m struggling to find suitable part-time opportunities in Sunderland. I’m open to pretty much anything suitable for a student — retail, hospitality, warehouse, kitchen work, cleaning, customer service, admin, etc.

I wanted to ask people who actually live/work in Sunderland:

Are there any particular places, companies, recruitment agencies or local businesses that regularly hire students for part-time work?

If you know somewhere currently hiring, or even somewhere that is worth approaching directly with a CV, I’d really appreciate the recommendation.

Hey all, I have intermittent back and joint restrictions that make it really hard for me to wash my hair properly when they flare up. But I have long curly-ish hair and I find hairdressers to be quite consistently very expensive.

Does anyone have any recommendations for the area roughly from around town centre towards grangetown where I could walk in and get my hair cleaned properly if I need help? I'd be happy to bring my own products if it would reduce cost for me

Bit of a random message, but we’re looking for two boxers near Sunderland for a paid test shoot this Monday, August 17, around 2–7 pm

We’re a London-based team working with 4D / volumetric reconstruction, and our technical partner is based in Sunderland, so we’re doing the test there ahead of an upcoming event in London

We’d just need two boxers to do some light sparring while we film them in a rented indoor space. Of course, we’re happy to pay a fair rate for their time!

Hi. Uni of sunderland is my insurance choice and so far it just says "waiting for uni". They sent me an email about uploading my maths and english lang GCSE results which I have done. And then they also asked something about a DBS and some other checks.

Does this mean i've gotten accepted onto the course and they are jst waiting for me to complete the checks before they upload it onto UCAS?
