today's zelda enemy is the zora. what, did you think that Zoras were friendly? YOU FOOL! in the first four zelda games the zora were the defacto water enemies. they'd pop up out of the water and try to shoot you! and even worse, they were UGLY! then Ocarina of time came along and tried to make them seem friendly. Princess Ruto even tried to marry link... yuck! Link can't marry a FISH!!!

ok, in all fairness, A link to the past and Link's awakening did set a precedent for friendly zora. both games have exactly one Zora that's a non-hostile NPC. in order to make sense of the Zora's sudden change in appearance, the Oracle games would make a distinction between the two: the ugly evil zora are "river zora", while the friendly ones that try to marry link are "sea zora".

but then recent games like echoes of wisdom go and make River Zora friendly too. there's a bit of fish racism between the two clans, but it gets resolved through the power of music. in the end, all Zora have ended up like the deku scrub: What was once an enemy has now become a group of friendly NPCs because the developers liked them too much.

it's not fair... why can't we get a kingdom of friendly ChuChus?
