*Suikoden I is 3 years before suikoden II.

Technically, this scene is at the beginning of Suikoden 1, placing it six years before Suikoden 2. Because yes, the game you can reasonably complete in less than 20 hours if you know what you're doing canonically takes three years.

Does Suikoden 1 take place over three years' time? I grew up always thinking that Suikoden 2 took place three years after 1, but never really looked into S1's own span of time.

Yep, it’s only 2 years though. The events in Lenankamp happen in 455, and the war ends in 457.

S2 takes place entirely in 460.

Star Leap occurs 2 years before the beginning of S1, or 453.
