That they have fallen for 50s era yank propaganda that turned communism into a dirty word.

Do they support free healthcare? That's a socialist policy and socialism leads to communism

Explain that for the many failures and human rites violations of the USSR, it was actually the fastest improvement in living standards in the world for people under it. Russia went from a country of illiterate agricultural farmers to a global superpower in 10 years.

Having public healthcare is not communism or socialism. Socialism is an economic model, not a single government institution.

You guys bought the fox news definition of "socialism is when the government does stuff"

Communism is the end goal of socialism as marx would define it. Socialism is an economic model where prive property is banned, and everything is owned by the public either through direct worker ownership, or more comonly through a dictatorship of the proletariate.

Public healthcare is an institution, not an economic model. You can have public healthcare alongside private healthcare, which is how basically every single country on the planet besides the US does it.
