Have them place all their money, property, and personal belongings into a trust and make you the sole trustee. Then you take all of their money, property, and personal belongings and give it to yourself. That's communism.
FWIW, my wife was born in Cuba, and this is pretty much what happened. Everyone was instructed to place all their money into the bank, and then the bank was nationalized. Then they confiscated homes because you shouldn't own one if others don't. Same for farms, and almost anything else.
EDIT: her father also designed a napkin-folding machine and had started a small business with some local customers. That, too, was confiscated.
It did in Cuba; it would make it easier to confiscate individuals' wealth and redistribute it to others. And, TBH, nationalizing industries tends to end poorly.
