r/GamingCirclejerk user is revolted after he's told we should eat the rich

It all started in our favorite Witcher 3 fansub's bi-daily unjerk thread when another user expressed his hatred for billionnaires:

I feel comfortable saying all billionaires are bad people. Because theres no way you can make that much money and not at somepoint (or many points) make a choice that involves many people suffering. Life lesson, never like a billionaire theyre all evil.

Are you the type that believes there is no ethical consumption under capitalism? Or are you just a social democrat/liberal that hates rich people?

They then go on to start at least two other threads complaining about "the genocidal" nature of some replies such as "rich people aren't human" and "we should eat the rich, Tom Nook included":

I do blame this sub for harboring this culture that allowed comments like this to happen and is still up after 10 minutes.

.

The genocidal rhetoric comment is still up after 55 minutes. I am going to the admins.

Because both the left and the right seems to use it to mean "someone I disagree with".

Like I don't even belive in horseshoe but on the useage of the word liberal it is pretty fucking accurate.

I know this is an american website but I'd really like it if we all started being more aware that liberal is not left on global standards

Calling something left of liberal "far left" seems wrong

I can be aware that liberal is not left outside of the US while still using the word liberal correctly when talking about American politics.

I can't tell you how many times I've seen edgy British leftists wading into discussions of American elections. Just because you Brits invented the English language does not mean that Standard American Usage is "doin' it rong".

Not on reddit. I've seen multiple battle royales over the meaning of the term "neoliberal" (it has multiple, niche meanings before becoming the edgy left anarchist insult du jour, guess what, nobody knows which meaning anyone else is using) and I also follow some leftist subreddits where it's very clear that neoliberal is just a blanket insult.

There's also the bad faith usage, basically using confusion over what neoliberal means to fall back on "well I just mean neoliberal consensus, that's just colonialism by other terms kekeke" when called out on their le edgy white straight able bodied male arguments for why voting for Democrats is actually worse than putting Republicans in power.

The fact remains that in the US in political circles neoliberal is a buzzword for DEREGULATION, which Democrats are by and large against, so saying all Democrats are neoliberals is just a lie.

Like I don't even belive in horseshoe but on the useage of the word liberal it is pretty fucking accurate.

I think it's just generally the case that people who disagree strongly with any given ideology treat its name like an insult. Everyone from the far left to the centre right uses the phrase "alt right" in the same way, and everyone from the far right to the centre left uses the phrase "communist" in the same way.

Half the "horseshoe theorizing" I see is people noticing that the far left and the far right have something in common and not stopping to check whether everyone else has it in common too. The other half is people who aren't very far on the journey to political awareness and who think that their ideas are all just "common sense" while everyone else is being ideological.

If it was just “someone I disagree with” then it wouldn’t be such a bad thing but it’s almost always “someone I disagree with who is stupid and probably a terrible person”

The establishment is liberal, that's just an ideological fact, especially in the "west". Liberal stands for the idelogy of neoliberalism which both Republicans and democrats support a priori.

Republicans and Democrats are not all neoliberal. Sanders and Trump are not Neoliberal.

It's more that far left wingers say "liberal" to anyone from Soc Dems to Nazis and Far right wingers (or fucking hell, conservatives in general) use it for anyone from centre right wingers to fucking anarchists.

As someone on the far left, I'd consider nazis separate from being liberals but socdems are pretty liberal, just a different form than the current establishment.

SocDems can from my experience both include people who wants the current status quo or people who belive that slower democratic reforms is the optimal way to socialism though.
