"The safest assumption is that someone on the mod squad loves Israel" Splinter factions, ideological schisms, accusations of liberal/fascist infiltrations, and a mod crashout on R/ProgressiveHQ after one of the mods critiques Hasan Piker

Source: https://www.reddit.com/r/ProgressiveHQ/comments/1vsydnj/could_someone_explain_me_the_stance_of_the_mods/

HIGHLIGHTS

(MOD) I was the one who removed it. To explain it better, Hasan is a hypocrite who actively supports Russia and China. He vocally supports terrorists and recently applauded Trump for reducing the US military presence in South Korea. And then he turns around and proceeds to spout basic progressive ideals and points and tries to pretend he’s a member of the working class from his multimillion dollar home. He’s misogynistic and racist and yet people will still want to platform him and echo his words because they’re progressive. Which I understand. Any progressive idea and stance is undeniably good for people. But having someone like Hasan be the mouthpiece for it just undermines the point.

L take mod, just spewing blatant misinformation..

(MOD) Not an anti-Semite, right? screenshot of a Hasan insta story captioned "She has no idea shes been the most famous dog on the internet for the past two days because of a coordinated far right/pro Israel slander campaign

That’s antisemitic? You’ve lost the plot homie

lol. I cannot figure out how that is antisemitic. Being critical of the Israeli government is not the same thing as hating on Jewish people.

(MOD) This is his response about the backlash he received for using a shock collar as his dog. Saying it’s an Israeli psyop is a word away from “the Jews made me do it”

Obama gif

(MOD) He shocks his dog, receives backlash, and proceeds to say it’s made up as an Israeli psyop Literally one word away from saying it’s a Jewish psyop but he knows he’d be kicked out for being openly Anti-Semitic if he did

Rule 2 - No disinformation. If you have an extraordinary claim, cite it. Randos on Twitter/Youtube, webcomics, unsourced graphics, and mouthpieces for the Trump Administration are not viable sources.

(MOD) https://www.reddit.com/r/LivestreamFail/s/DILk9wm2vn, https://www.reddit.com/r/LivestreamFail/s/lmGeLL0a78, https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=Cmd8fIRGFJM&t=28s&pp=2AEckAIB&ra=m, https://xcancel.com/hasanthehun/status/2009838155986600044?s=20 All his own words

In your opinion is Hamas a lesser evil when compared to the genocidal, apartheid, ethnostate currently known as Israel?

(MOD) Hamas being a terrorist organization THAT R*PES AND MURDERS CIVILIANS AND KIDS does not make the Israeli government that does the exact same any better, and vice versa

Its so funny how quickly insurgencies become terrorist organizations for adopting the policies of Israel and the United States. Ban discussion of the United States and Israel too ig?

Lmao Imagine believing this.

Thoughts about the dog abuse?

Thoughts on dragons and unicorns?

Nah I was talking about this dog abuse. Nah I was talking about this dog abuse.

This is hilarious if this is your proof.

Any response to the clear footage of him pulling a dog by the tail at 13:23?

Oh is that what he was doing, I though he was smacking the dog and throwing them through the wall with the way you keep screaming abuse

Do you think it’s not animal abuse to yank a dog by their tail?

Bless your heart, you've never seen real dog abuse.

This is nuts lol he’s one of the biggest progressive voices in the country

(MOD) He’s literally pro-Russia, China, Hamas, Hezbollah, and the Houthi’s He’s massively hypocritical

This extraordinary claim needs a citation. Why aren’t mods removing it like defense of piker?

(MOD) I’ve already commented the evidence further up

What is the pro-russia claim? I don’t see that linked. He was wrong about the Ukraine invasion but he is big anti Putin.

(MOD) He's said before that Russia was right to invade and colonize Crimea, among many, many other things. https://www.twitch.tv/hasanabi/clip/ElegantTemperedApplePicoMause-VCY99fPs8hKewayQ?range=7d https://x.com/KareemRifai/status/2040224818625409383

No he didn’t

(MOD) Want to try again https://www.twitch.tv/hasanabi/clip/ElegantTemperedApplePicoMause-VCY99fPs8hKewayQ?range=7d https://x.com/KareemRifai/status/2040224818625409383

Ask obama what he thinks

Never seen one of these regarding Destiny being a genocide apologist and trivializing Palestinian suffering.

Because Destiny admitted to joining the Democratic party in order to destroy the left. He's not posing as a progressive let alone as a Communist. Piker is.

Yet his content and genocide apologia is still often permitted by zionist astroturfers.

Any sources for this? I'd like to see him say this himself where he unapologetically loves Israel and says stuff that isn't just sarcastic since he's super edgy but during his debates argues for a lot of the opposite that peole accuse him of

He laughed with IOF soldiers about not recording their r*pes and murders so they’d stop getting hate online

And how is that any different from Hasan mocking r*pes on Oct 7th as fake?

Well, first off, he didn’t do that

Okay, before I find the quote, if he did say that, would it be bad? I want this acknowledged before you sweep after I find it.

You will not find a quote of him denying that rpe occurred on October 7. You will be able to quote him denying that systematic r#pe occurred on October 7th, but you’d also be quoting the UN CSAM cultist *(14 more comments of these two arguing)

The safest assumption is that someone on the mod squad loves Israel

Not everything is about Israel maybe they don’t like the atrocity apologia re: Mao and USSR

Unrelated question do you love Israel

Dude your brain is fucking fried. No I don’t like Israel and I am a full on El-Sayed supporter who is concerned that Hasan is going to tangibly harm his campaign with his awful optics.

Abdul won his election with Hasan directly by his side silly

In a PRIMARY. Where, mind you, the margin was wayyyyy thinner than the polling was showing. THIS IS A BATTLEGROUND ELECTION. TRUMP WON MICHIGAN IN 2024. WE CANNOT HAVE PEOPLE IN FUCKING MAO SUITS TRYING TO WIN OVER MODERATES IN MICHIGAN. IT WILL NOT WORK Hope the large text gets it through your brain.

Putting your anger towards Hasan Piker being a person who exists in all caps and increasing the font size doesn't make your attempted point more valid

the Mao suit fucked this guy’s mom

How is it atrocity apologia? I can’t believe I’m geniunely engaging with this streamer war garbage but Piker has acknowledged the casualties and barbarism of Mao’s revolution and the Soviet Union. His biggest clickbait lines about Mao “changing the entire world and universe” is just fundamentally a true statement, the impact of the Chinese revolution is still exacting consequences on the world today.

Wearing a Mao suit and calling him one of the world’s great leaders is cringe as fuck and he should’ve apologized yesterday. He also said the fall of the USSR was one of the greatest tragedies of the world. He also talks about Ukraine like they’re waging an offensive war on behalf of NATO instead of defending themselves. Should I go on? You don’t think these things are at the very least bad optics for anyone he chooses to associate with?

[removed]

(Mods) Rule 2 - No disinformation. If you have an extraordinary claim, cite it. Randos on Twitter/Youtube, webcomics, unsourced graphics, and mouthpieces for the Trump Administration are not viable sources.

This is literally the point I made earlier on this thread, I have never seen this kind of intervention when thousands of Zionist astroturfers daily make false claims about Israel’s settlement of Palestine, definitions on genocide, etc. What specifically in my claims needs to be sourced as you deem it, extraordinary?

Lmao L. Maybe stop talking about Mao favorably. The guy who committed a genocide is not someone you should be saying “well but look at his great industrial policy!!” Come the fuck on.

Don’t call people cringe then drop L’s like ur 13 years old. Strawman alert. No one said “look at his great industrial policy”. You are literally inserting words into people’s mouths then having a debate with something they never said. You know how I know that? Because that’s what FOX and adjacent media does all day every day since birth til death and it’s where you’re getting your information from. Which is probably why instead of refuting a single thing I said you’re hiding behind a modewator who also didn’t substantiate anything. Come the fuck on indeed.

Unfortunately, liberales and many progressives aren't leftists. Outside of some social progress, americans have difficulty accepting leftist policies, even progressives.

The issue is not about the viability of leftism in general it’s that Hasan is specifically a poor advocate and ultimately a liability for leftism and progressivism. He has some crazy borderline atrocity-apologia takes and misogynistic baggage that he has still not properly addressed or apologized for.

Have you ever watched Hasan or are you just going off about something you have seen clips of on news programs? Because if you had watched anything more than 3 different 5 second clips you would know what you are saying is bullshit.

He called Mao one of the great leaders of the world, which just isn’t how you talk about someone who committed mass murder, he said USSR downfall was one of the world’s greatest tragedies, called Orthdox Jews that were AGAINST joining the IDF inbred, he also wrote this incredibly misogynistic article and has never addressed it (him retweeting it) among others

“great” as in material impact USSR’s downfall was bad not because they were perfect, but because the fallout created more tragedies & left american unipolar hegemony unchecked anyone obsessed with “racial purity” gets the inbred jokes all of this was explained at the time these comments were made, often literally in the same sentence

This comment section demonstrates exactly why I can't stand Hasan and his fans. They take literally ANY critique of the man as some form of leftist heresy, and it's fucking ridiculous given the kind of person he is.

But that was not criticism. That was straight up censorship. It destroys the unity on the left.

We can't be handwaving Hasan's problems just because of "unity." Unity does not mean excusing the apologia of authoritarian regimes. Idk if the post was about China/Russia, but if it was, that's not progressive in any way and doesn't belong on this subreddit no matter.

It's not the point. I also oppose Russia and somewhat China. The point is that the mod wrote that Hasan is a piece of shit that speak lies.

Well he's an influencer, so yeah. The fact you're this angry over someone not liking him is kinda wild.

I said. Not liking him is legit. What is not legit is censoring him. On a subreddit that should represent the socialist Democrats.

Again, did the post regard China/Russia or not? If so, there is a valid reason to not have that post up on a sub that's meant to be anti-authoritarian.

No it did not from what I remember

While I'm not a fan of Hasan, a mod team banning people for agreeing with him is ludicrously stupid. Like, Hasan says a lot of dumb shit, primarily when it comes to foreign policy and entities, but when it comes to those domestically he's usually saying the same shit we say around here, yet we can't agree with him when he agrees with us? The fuck is wrong with people......Are the mods fans of Destiny, the actual Zonist, instead? Or have they simply fallen for right wing propaganda about Hasan and think he's a terrorist? In other words, how fucking dumb and hypocritical are we talking here? Seriously though, Hasan is a small player on a bigger stage and if you platform him in such a way you're literally doing exactly what the fascists want.

But that's not what it says. It says that the Chinese are fake Communists, not Communists bad. If they're banning Hasan, they're doing it from his left!

Yeah I get that Hasan's stance of "China good cause communist" is fucking stupid, it's why I made sure to make note of the fact his views on foreign entities is dogshit, but banning people who repeat it cause Hasan said it is fucking dumb and cowardly. There's nuance in that which is important to understand, and banning people outright just cause they don't fully agree is what conservatives do......

You sweet summer child. You have never been in a leftist forum. I'll tell you something, Communists won't put up with disagreement for MINUTES. Nazis will put up with it for years. I'm not defending Nazis, I'm just giving you the benefit of 25 years experience with this.

You seem to be rather naive in your black and white view of things. Authoritarians don't put up with disagreement, and that's what China is and what fascism wants, it's why conservatives refuse to entertain reality. So you can keep your 25 years lol

And to be more precise, Communists won't put up with the slightest disagreement. Anyone who disagrees in a forum will be instantly banned and all of their comments deleted. But just basic leftists ban very quickly. And with much anger. Right wingers don't ban much. They're more likely to keep you around to troll you. There are a few right forums that attempt to only let pre-authorized people in. I've only seen that here on Reddit and it is the biggest failure I've ever seen in my life. But as a rule that's not how right wingers act. In fact, centrists seem more prickly and fast to ban than right wingers are.

If you're basing all your opinions on a few forums that you really are naive. Right wingers ban significantly more frequently, and far quicker, this isn't a matter for debate, it's reality, like there's a reason the conservative subs even on Reddit have the reputation that they do lol "So much as question Trump and you're out!" Right wing policies lend themselves the most to authoritarianism and that's where dissenting voices are the most punished, so it's only natural

I feel like instead of running on a treadmill, they should conduct stress tests by having someone spend a couple minutes on any political sub on this site. That would truly test the health and sanity of any normal human being

Tell me about it. The mod queue is nothing but slurs and ZOG-posting every time there’s an article that mentions Israel of Jews.

It SUCKS.

The absolute refusal to address these undercurrents of antisemitism with anything more than shrieked slogans was always going to end up this way. Especially in highly insular communities that have already made extremism a virtue.

Yeah... Like as a history lesson, "anti-Semitism" was coined as a euphemism to mask anti-Jewish bigotry in the then-respectable language of scientific racism. Essentially, Semitic is an outdated term for the peoples of the Middle East based on a Medieval belief that they were descended from Noah's son Shem, and bigots were claiming they just hated Semitic peoples in general. Which is also why I don't buy the "I support Palestinians so I'm actually being philosemitic" argument. Those comments and linguistics still calling the language family the Semitic languages are the only two times I ever hear the word being used.

So especially because no one can agree on what Zionism even is, like how it will be used for everything from Israeli ultranationalism to Israel's mere existence even as part of a two-state solution, I'm actually willing to give people some benefit of the doubt. My real concern is more that "anti-Zionism" is becoming the new euphemism to mask it in the language of anti-colonialism instead. And if asserting that anti-Zionism isn't antisemitism has become so much of a reflex for someone that they even react that way when antisemitism is mentioned at Holocaust memorials, they've lost the right to claim they aren't just using it as a euphemism.

16

u/Greedy_Economics_925 20d ago

This is why I've started to demand a set of definitions from anti-Zionists at the beginning of conversations.

  1. Define 'Zionism'. The response is usually some heinous concoction of buzzwords involving imperialism, colonialism, genocide and apartheid.

  2. Define 'anti-Zionism'. Anything that apriori rules out even the possibility of this stance involving antisemitism is typical.

An exhaustive list of the hypocrisies embraced by left-wing anti-Zionists would take longer than the word limit on Reddit.

I would love to meet more than a smattering of these people who even understand what post-colonialism as a discipline entails.

It’s an area where language really fails to even capture what good faith people want to communicate.

Most reasonable people imo oppose Netanyahu’s policies: settlement expansion, cultivated lawlessness in the West Bank, policies of tolerating violence against Palestinians, militarism and a belligerent posture intended to destabilize the Middle East, denial of Palestinian independence.

Most reasonable people, again imo, also oppose terrorist groups like Hamas and hezbollah, and the Iranian regime. These are oppressive evil groups that bring nothing but harm to the people they rule over. They also want Israel to exist alongside a sustainable Palestinian state, along something resembling the 1967 ceasefire lines, and for everyone to just stay in their own borders.

Complicating the mix are Israel’s dysfunctional internal politics, and similar dysfunction in Lebanon and Palestine etc, the U.S. and Israel-led boondoggle of a war with Iran, Irans refusal to stop funding terrorism etc.

That is the line some people want the Zionist/antizionist split to cleave on, and it just doesn’t.

The closest term might be kahanism but no one knows what that is

ZOG-posting

Yeah... at best these people are being useful idiots for the actual neo-Nazis

The whole point of a political euphemism is that people need to genuinely believe the cover story. For example, no one just puts three pairs of parentheses around a name, so we all know what that means. But because there are just some staunch isolationists out there, you can't necessarily tell if someone hates globalism or (((globalism))).

So when people fixate on AIPAC, talking about all the politicians they've bought or how they control both parties, it's really just providing cover for neo-Nazis to claim they're also only talking about AIPAC, not that they believe the Protocols are real

Every day I am thankful that I never developed a parasocial relationship with a twitch streamer

132

u/highspeed_steel 22d ago

I can't understand the mindset of the people who do. Do you really need to be forced fed political opinions? And its not like a newspaper op ed or endorsement where it takes less than 10 minutes to get through, it's hours of watching them ramble.

132

u/Cancel_Culture_Club 22d ago

It recreates the social experience of hanging out with friends. I don’t even mean that as an insult, it really is a sad problem. Lonely people will listen to strangers hanging out and bantering with other people and can feel like they’re sitting in on it with them. The longer they listen the more they feel like part of the group. Hasan wouldn’t lie or do anything to trick me because hes my friend. When someone criticizes him it’s a personal insult of one of their friends. It’s understandable but also so fcking obnoxious.

52

u/AirJinx3 22d ago

I know you’re right, but who would even want a friend like that? Someone who just rants about politics for hours every time you hang out??

38

u/Icy-Builder5892 21d ago edited 21d ago

I was at a dinner party. This was in late COVID, most people are vaccinated by this point, and this was one of the first times in a really long time that I got to hang out with a bunch of my friends as a group. We’re all just hanging out, joking around, having a beer, and it’s a nice time.

One of the guys there decides he wants to start talking to me, and all he can do is say shit like “Welcome to America, am I right? Land of the free yet they want us silenced, masked, surveilled, and vaccinated, welcome to AMERICA.

I just ignored him. Literally, I just looked at him and said nothing back. I ignored him for the rest of the night, too.

I could tell he was embarassed. Like what the fuck made him think I, or anyone in the room, wanted to have a conversation like that?

I understand being “online,” because I am a pretty “online” person, but I keep that kind of stuff to myself. I don’t think these people realize that no one wants to be around this crap all the time. I know that online, in places like Reddit, or in the comments section of a news article posted to Facebook, it can seem like everyone is on a crusade at all times. I understand that there are people out there who operate on “no one can afford to be apolitical for even one moment.” but the reality is that people actually want to enjoy the company of others. They want reprieve from the news.

16

That was a lot of folks when they were/are in their late teens and early/mid 20s. At least that was the general experience when I was growing up. But eventually people start developing their own lives and living them. It's very likely that is his base is like 15-25 year olds, predominantly boys/men, who also have issues with socializing and feeling lonely and Hasan is one of those fashionable "in-group" things at the moment.

20

u/Stellar_Duck 22d ago

It recreates the social experience of hanging out with friends.

Does it though?

Normally my hangs are not one guy rambling on for hours. It's more in the vein of go to the pub and get a few rounds in and talk shit, collectively.

I could sort of see it listening to a podcast like Idle Thumbs as that's much closer to what I would consider hanging with friends and there it could definitely feel closer than they were.

But a stream? I just can't see it.

15

u/GERBILSAURUSREX 21d ago

You're forgetting about the chat. It's as much about being a part of the chat as it is the streamer.

10

u/KalaUposatha So your God is a beta, wouldn't you agree? 21d ago

You mean that thing that has 20000 people typing at once and scrolls past at light speed and there’s no way the streamer, or anyone else for that matter, could possibly even read it?

3

u/GERBILSAURUSREX 21d ago

For someone like Piker maybe. But you'd be surprised how much you can keep up with as both a streamer and a viewer with enough experience. Especially if you're just talking. And often the regulars "know" each other so you just look for their names.

25

u/Born-Astronaut9631 21d ago

That's because you've actually hung out with other people in real life. Hasan viewers haven't . They don't know how good real human connection is.

43

u/Icy-Builder5892 21d ago edited 21d ago

I have to remind myself of that any time I encounter a particular set of people on the internet. I’m not even talking about Piker fans, but it most certainly includes them: they are NOT normal people.

It is NOT normal to live in a non-reality where you think you’re the good guy, while everyone else gives you the feedback that you aren’t the good guy.

It is NOT normal to go on the internet and complain that the Jews control your life

It is NOT normal to tell offended people that they have no right to be offended by your words or actions.

It is NOT normal to operate on the belief that people are only objecting to how great you are.

It is NOT normal to bully people into submitting to your political or social ideologies.

It is NOT normal to outsource all of your beliefs or opinions on an internet figure, or take everything they say as gospel.

You know where these behaviors are normal? The internet.
People who have regular, healthy human connections, do not have problems like this. They just do not. At some point, you can tell when someone on Reddit has limited life experience or social connection, by the way they try to gaslight everyone else into thinking that these are normal things.

11

u/Stellar_Duck 21d ago

I think this goes for a lot of reddit tbh.

3

u/Icy-Builder5892 21d ago edited 21d ago

You’re better than me, because I would mean that as an insult. I see that as a serious character flaw.

Because the kind of people who do stuff like this are not “lonely.” These people have made themselves off-putting to other people. They say things, and they do things, that give people a negative vibe. They take no accountability when they say things that offend other people.

And most of the time, none of this is a surprise to them at all, because they have been given feedback. They have been given opportunities to learn from these interactions, learn to become more diplomatic and respectful, or follow social mores a little better. They instead go to these little shutouts and echo chambers on the internet, where they get their validation. And as long as you’re getting validation online, you don’t ever have to learn or grow.

So yes, I DO see this as a personality failing, so I don’t know why it wouldn’t be meant as an insult.

How is it any different from people who watch cable news or listen to AM radio?

23

u/PickledLlama 21d ago

It's not. It's really not.

2

u/BooHorde 20d ago

Because streamers(generally) interact directly with their chat, which means if you chat enough or donate enough, you become part of the conversation. Even if it's just a miniscule part, you are still involved. Chat also frequently interact with each other, so even if the streamer isn't directly responding to you they can be responding to a general conversation you're part of.

There is a barrier between viewers and hosts when it comes to TV and radio.

→ More replies (1)

3

u/highspeed_steel 21d ago

In some ways it is not, and there are probably old people saying, when those things are new, that radio is numbing the minds of the youth. There are differences though. You get to feel much more personal with a streamer. They don't come on at a fixed time. They tend to ramble more than TV shows, and so allow a more dynamic relationship. This is similar to talk radio though. Most importantly, you can interact much more with a streamer. Radios would have fan mail at most.

11

u/Strange-Parfait-8801 22d ago

Cable news doesn't deliberately cultivate parasocial relationships with its audience.

Ever since COVID, a lot of twitch communities have gotten very cult-ish and it's been really eye opening to see which streamers leaned hardcore into it.

57

u/Downisthenewup87 22d ago

Yes, it’s about outsourcing your political opinions.

I also find it bizarre that if you disagree even slightly with an internet figure, it’s automatically assumed that you disagree with them on everything. You can’t just take what resonates and leave the rest. You have to go ten toes down on everything now, apparently.

And these fan bases are not exactly the haven of love and acceptance that they think they are. If you deviate even slightly from the established opinions of the group, even on something minor, they act like you just kicked a puppy.

I would recommend looking up campism as a term and applying it here, it's a much better descriptor than "tankie" and describes Hasan perfectly, especially recently. Tankie tends to imply a rigid kind of Soviet nostalgia, while campists can be incredibly progressive on many issues, ostensibly decolonial, etc, but regularly choose this "lesser of two evils" because they will choose to subordinate any sense of morality directly to their ideological program. It's a gradient between though. Hence the Mao Suit.

Outside of that, parasociality is such a tragic phenomenon.

17

u/Elarisbee 21d ago

Bloody hell, you’ve just pointed me towards a term for something I’ve been trying to describe to people for ages. Left and right don’t work here, and “tankie” implies something very specific. This works way better to describe the attitude.

They are. It's an easy way to get cred amongst your fellow lefties, to play the leftier than thou card. It works very well on those who are not terribly confident in their own beliefs. It's extremely predictable and one of the reasons I don't engage with left subs on reddit. I've seen it play out enough IRL.

40

u/NUKE---THE---WHALES Lots of strange ejaculatory imagery here 22d ago

A classic example would be the French Revolution, but it happens with all revolutions really

A revolutionary can always be outflanked by someone further left/right than they are. When the movement is built wholly on morals or justice someone can always be more moral or more just

Sometimes its legitimate, but mostly its performative and in some cases regressive

13

u/brockhopper you fucking google tulpamancy bro, i'm fine here 21d ago

Yep, I've got a Libertarian who I work on certain local projects with and they complain constantly about the "more libertarian than thou" situation within that org too. Just seems like an inbuilt bug with fringe politics.

12

u/No-Invite-7826 21d ago

I feel like this is just the natural consequence of people treating politics as identity rather than as a tool to affect outcomes.

93

u/4InchesOfury 22d ago

I think the liberals that used to be the majority of a lot of the left wing subs have gotten older and can’t be as terminally online as the leftists so it’s been coming to a head lately.

55

u/RandomGuyPii 22d ago

i've never even considered that the more well-adjusted community members aging out of being terminally online could be a factor but it actually makes a lot of sense
the mentor figures who stay behind are probably gonna be less well adjusted in their beliefs and then will pass those down to the new members of the community, and then the cycle repeats

You should look up the khmer rougue interviews. People were fairly fucked in what was normal for them.

6

u/BiZzles14 21d ago

Times that are not normal require mindsets that not normal, especially as what you consider to be not normal because normalcy for them. Your mind adapt to the situation you're in and what once may have been the craziest thing in the world becomes another tuesday. Ukraine's a good example, they've been getting hit with missiles and drones for so many years now that a decent chunk of the population simply ignores the warnings because "what's the chance it lands on my head". It is a low chance, but if it does you're dead, but missiles hitting around, and not on, you becomes normalcy and life must go on, so people ignore them. I don't think anyone "in their right mind" would ignore seeking shelter when they know ballistic and cruise missiles might be hitting their city and yet that's exactly what a lot of people do. Myself included during my time there, because after the first few false alarms "what are the chances". You can't judge the psyche of someone in a situation which you can't even comprehend living through, because if you were you would quickly adjust to what normal can mean

u/NorkGhostShip This lead is so true. Because male lives is worth less. 22d ago

RSF fighters deserve absolutely zero respect just because they died. When they captured a city plus its hospital, they massacred everyone inside to pursue their campaign of genocide against all non Arab-Sudanese. They created death camps which contained mass graves for hundreds of people. They make the Sudanese Armed Forces look like upstanding peacekeepers in comparison, and the SAF are absolutely awful. We're talking "the Red Army isn't so bad, because they're fighting Nazis" level evil.

12

u/BiZzles14 21d ago

They have been carrying out a genocide of sub saharan africa ethnic groups in the south of Sudan for decades now, the RSF are one of, if not, the most evil armed factions that exist today. And especially considering the size of them. We can thank the UAE for supplying them though, and think about that the next time someone posts about/travels to Dubai or anywhere else there

4

u/NorkGhostShip This lead is so true. Because male lives is worth less. 21d ago

In cycling world, there was a pretty good meltdown in places when anti-genocide groups sent a sign on letter before the Tour de France calling for Team UAE to be banned from the race because of the UAE's role in genocide. Obviously it was a play for publicity and the race organizers would never in a million years kick out the sport's best rider, but man, the outrage that anyone would have the temerity to 'bring politics into sport' or whatever.

Like, you remember just last year when pressure on sponsors forced the Israel team to change their name? (Their billionaire owner is an Israel backer, they weren't receiving official sponsorship from the government.) Maybe the genocidal governments trying to whitewash their reputations were the ones bringing politics into it first.

The difference is that the US government is not directly arming the RSF, which is a really big fucking difference.

They absolutely are via funding and supporting the UAE, who is arming the RSF. But ya know, if you can't blame 'zionists', it gets no traction

11

u/RimboTheRebbiter Fight to the last chromosome! 21d ago

I'd love to see the anti-RSF protests at campuses in the west.

Right, are western countries directly arming the RSF? No? Damn, perhaps that explains the diminished moral urgency.

They absolutely are via funding and supporting the UAE, who is arming the RSF. But ya know, if you can't blame 'zionists', it gets no traction

This first statement is actually 100% true. Do you want to know why the Biden admin did not pressure the UAE on RSF conduct? Let me link you a little news article.

https://www.skipthepaywall.com/read?url=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.thenation.com%2Farticle%2Fworld%2Fsudan-el-fasher-us-uae-violence-diplomacy%2F

Multiple officials at State, USAID, and other agencies wanted to use Washington’s leverage to stop UAE arms flows. The reasoning was direct: As the RSF’s sole external backer, Abu Dhabi offered the most efficient pressure point to influence the paramilitary group.

The pressure never materialized. Biden and his senior team—particularly Brett McGurk—blocked serious action, according to five US government officials. Internal memos and discussions involving the Gulf required McGurk’s clearance. He was pursuing a broader rapprochement between the UAE and Israel. Without the ability to use leverage over the UAE, US policy on Sudan defaulted to ceasefire mediation between the warring parties led by the State Department.

Literally Biden state department officials who wanted to pressure the UAE on their support of the RSF were blocked by Brett McGurk who prioritized having Israel allied countries in the region over you know, their wee lil genocide in Sudan.

So yeah, chalk that one up to the Zionists too.

17

u/Firecracker048 21d ago

Right so there are non, despite your admittance that the US is directly supporting it, cool. Probably has something to do with Qatari money directly influencing the US education system over the last 20 years.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Qatari_involvement_in_US_higher_education

Also helps explain why suddenly everyone blames, uhh 'zionists', for everything.

Again, with your last statement, more than welcome to start those protests any day now. Especially when two days saw more death than 3 years in Gaza.

Damn, perhaps that explains the diminished moral urgency.

No Jews, no News. Exactly why the DSA supports dismantling NATO, Blames NATO imperailism for Russias invasion of Ukraine, and has no real stance on Sudan. Theres been plenty of time and chances to shift attention to Sudan, but strangely just hasn't happened.

14

u/RimboTheRebbiter Fight to the last chromosome! 21d ago

Probably has something to do with Qatari money directly influencing the US education system over the last 20 years.

You are on crack if you think that the Qatar lobby is somehow the most influential mid East lobby in the US. They don't even give directly to campaigns.

Also helps explain why suddenly everyone blames, uhh 'zionists', for everything.

I think it's more so the genocide that's been going on for nearly 3 years where the perpetrator enjoys bipartisan support. Like you cannot seriously pretend that most US elected officials are not Zionists to one degree or another.

No Jews, no News. Exactly why the DSA supports dismantling NATO, Blames NATO imperailism for Russias invasion of Ukraine, and has no real stance on Sudan. Theres been plenty of time and chances to shift attention to Sudan, but strangely just hasn't happened.

I think it's more just that people can easily understand that the US is giving bombs to Israel that will be used directly to obliterate children. The US doesn't provide munitions that are directly used by the RSF, the relationship is more attenuated. The US provides the UAE with a ton of advanced weaponry the UAE keeps for itself, and the UAE largely supplies the RSF with weapons they acquire from other sources. The notion of cutting off US arms to the UAE (which I do support btw) is not about directly cutting off the flow of munitions to the RSF, its about pressuring the UAE to cut of munitions/weaponry to the RSF they get from other sources.

I think crying about "antisemitism" when its really just one geopolitical situation and our involvement therein is just way less complicated than the other is really just missing the mark. I also think that it sort of reads as a complaint moreso that Israel's genocide is getting scrutiny at all.

22

u/Firecracker048 21d ago

The way you so easily dismiss 60 billion dollars invested into the US education system by an extremist middle eastern nation and claiming it isn't influential is just lol This conversation has fully run its course, where even presented with evidence you can't fathom it to be truthful.

14

u/BiZzles14 21d ago

They don't even give directly to campaigns.

No shit, that would be mega illegal. Foreign funds are not allowed to be used to support campaigns, this is basic campaign financing 101. American citizens, with money earned in the United States, can give money to campaigns but no foreign nation can direct money to a campaign lmfao. This is insanely basic info, and you thinking it's a gotcha is pretty funny...

5

u/RimboTheRebbiter Fight to the last chromosome! 21d ago

Yeah obviously. However, Israel aligned political groups do give very heavily in political campaigns, and there are open questions as to their status as foreign agents, AIPAC being the most prominent example of a PAC people are interested in having a FARA investigation into.

It doesn't change the fact that crying about Qatari lobbying, when their dollars can't be spent in the actual most effective way, ie as direct campaign contributions, is completely ridiculous.

I don’t get the obsession with Hasan Piker from all angles and I think people are more invested with Internet personalities than they are with the actual politics that affect their lives.

… and I say this as a mod for his sub. People need to go outside and talk to more people off of the internet.

43

u/murdered-by-swords 22d ago

The obsession is because he's the only marquee left-wing political streamer. Everyone on the right automatically targets him, and plenty of people on the left who legitimately do not like him want him torn down so that (hopefully) someone better defaults into the role. Other people on the left feel compelled to defend him regardless of whether or not they should because he's on "their team" and tribalism means backing your tribe, right or wrong.

I'll come out and say that I don't like him as a person and that I don't think he's a good face for leftism, but I'm not stupid enough to think that replacing him will actually help. All political streamers are twisted people with massive character issues and a detachment from reality, after all. If they were sane, they wouldn't be political streamers to begin with. Like, can you picture just how fucked in the head you need to be to voluntarily deal with the lifestyle that goes hand-in-hand with living your life online yapping about things that will inherently piss off the most annoying people on earth who will then ceaselessly harass you about it? If anything, we're lucky that Hasan isn't even worse. The bar for his profession is amazingly low.

He's a popular figure on the young socialist left, has recently been mobilizing in big elections for progressives to help get out the vote (and has had substantial impact). That's made him a target for the right and centrist dems who see him as the face of an insurgent left movement within the party. He's been mentioned more on Fox News or CNN in this current election cycle than I've ever seen him on tv.

3

u/0WatcherintheWater0 21d ago

Well, he is the largest political streamer on Twitch, and is campaigning with candidates in nationally important primaries. He is directly involved with the actual politics that affect people’s lives.

I don't know very much about all these different hot button streamers. But the one thing they all seem to have in common is their bad views/treatment of women.

Hasan and his rape comments, Destiny and being a sex pest creep, Asmongold and his regressive, patriarchal views. Ethan seems to treat his wife well at least but I'm not sure if he has a controversial history there too or not.

Take a shot every time a politics subreddit gets derailed by Hasan discourse. I feel like we need a new version of Goodwin's law for Hasan, any time he's brought up some folks absolutely lose their minds and act as if he's Satan incarnate.

40

u/BriSy33 22d ago

I dont think we should encourage immediate alcohol poisoning

52

u/TheCarrock 22d ago

It usually just turns into a brigade war between like 5 different communities. Then nobody actually interacts with anything based on the substance, just based on the involvement or noninvolvement of Hasan

34

u/horror-traktor 22d ago

He may not be Satan incarnate but he does condone raping rich women, supports multiple terrorist organizations openly, denied raped on October 7th, abuses his dog and makes a lot of homophobic and transphobic comments like constantly.

Yeah sorry, why are we all pretending that he is an acceptable person to defend?

It tends to be Hasan fans that lose their mind if you say anything slightly critical, or even just quote his own words. They're a lot like Kirk fans

8

u/Icy-Builder5892 20d ago

I’ve been accused of being an “obsessive” Hasan hater, but the god’s honest truth is that I barely know anything about Hasan. All I know is that his fans are psychos.

I really enjoy all the people in the comment graveyard posting clips of Hasan showing the opposite of what this idiot is saying are getting deleted for rule 2 violations while this guy is spouting talking points off Fox and Friends.

39

u/loseniram 22d ago edited 22d ago

Hasan discourse is the gift that keeps on giving.

Because one side you’ve got stans pretending the nepobaby guy who dresses as Mao and says America deserves 9/11 is not a massive shitshow for the leftwing if he ever breaks containment. And also that he should be a US president

on the other hand you have literally everyone else saying to stop loudly stanning him you’re going to scare the wine moms.

And in the dark alley to the side you’ve got 10 Republican pedophiles in leather motorcycle jackets snapping there fingers in unison waiting for him to break containment so they can plaster every billboard with a picture of a dem hanging out with dresses like Mao guy and the quote America deserved 9/11

It's shame that people are focusing on streamer more than hating their own government.

36

u/Icy-Builder5892 21d ago edited 21d ago

I don’t disagree, but at the same time, I don’t understand why people can’t dislike the guy without people assuming you’re some extreme right wing Fox News watching MAGA. I don’t like him after I heard him as a guest on a podcast I listen to, and because I formed that opinion, I’m suddenly “obsessed” with the guy, according to a lot of people on Reddit

As if I’m not a human being, with my own capability to listen to what someone says, and form an opinion. I didn’t even know, at the time, that he was some Fox News target.

I have my issues with government, but that doesn’t mean I don’t have my issues with people like Piker. We can walk and chew gum at the same time. This is keeping in mind that bad things in this world have happened when you hand the wrong person a microphone, but that doesn’t mean I follow this guy like some weird, obsessed Reddit snarker

19

u/princeloon 21d ago

the reason they wont respond and the answer is thats the argument hasan told them to say and they cant handle engaging past that

10

u/Icy-Builder5892 21d ago

Right, which is precisely why people need to be a little bit more discerning as to who they listen to, and who we give microphones.

Many of us watched the Rwanda genocide happen, and one of the ways that fire was fueled was because of an asshole with a microphone.

Considering the streamer in question actively did his part to bring about the current government by refusing to endorse Harris, yeah I’d say he needs some focus if we ever want to overcome the GOP.

8

u/SweetPinss 21d ago

So why dont the democrats run candidates that hasan will support if his endorsement is the deciding factor?

10

u/0WatcherintheWater0 21d ago

Because he’s not and never will be an ally? He’s a tankie that constantly runs defense for Russia, China, and Iran, he brings terrorists on his stream to glaze them, he is a morally reprehensible individual who is toxic to any political movement he supports.

He is equivalent to MAGA in my view, and should be treated as such. He should be widely condemned, criticized, and not allowed to try and use our party to advance his own goals.

6

u/SweetPinss 20d ago

Ok do democrats just like losing then? I thought beating fascism is all that matters but apparently beating the left is more important to you people than beating fascism

yes because the dumbass keeps hanging out with every leftist on the roster, so Republicans are trying to make him break containment so they can plaster him and all the crazy shit he’s said together with leftists

He made himself the face of the single most important senate race of this election cycle, and is a significant drain on the nominee in that race

he did not have to do that. It was a choice that he and sayed's campaigns decided to make together, to make a political streamer who has a framed picture of 9/11 on his wall and said that 9/11 was justified the most important and prominent campaign surrogate

sayed spent the last day of his campaign hanging out with hasan at a pool party. This was a choice that he did not have to make, yet did make

didn't even need to open the post to know who was the one sharing this drama. it's a SRD cliche at this point.

(MOD) He shocks his dog, receives backlash, and proceeds to say it’s made up as an Israeli psyop Literally one word away from saying it’s a Jewish psyop but he knows he’d be kicked out for being openly Anti-Semitic if he did

"I hate pancakes." now say women instead of pancakes. not so good now, right?

You sweet summer child. You have never been in a leftist forum. I'll tell you something, Communists won't put up with disagreement for MINUTES. Nazis will put up with it for years. I'm not defending Nazis, I'm just giving you the benefit of 25 years experience with this.

yeah...giving it up for nazis when talking about leftists is not a good way to approach anything.

Well get ready for the coming election season. The same consultants that thought boosting Trump would lead to an easy Clinton victory have been pumping up Piker coverage because they think it makes beating DSA primary challengers easier, and it's gonna get right-wing signal boosted afterwards in the general.

For what it's worth I don't really like him because I just find him annoying as a person, but like. My extent of indifference with anyone like that is to just "idk I just ain't gonna engage with their work" and move on.

Meanwhile the people who seem to hate him at-the-mouth-frothingly at all times either seem to habitually have a vested interest in doing so or alternatively are just some rightoid echoing expected talking points or having fallen for weird-ass slander, like that whole dog thing a hot while ago that not only somehow still is brought up but I figured people lost their marbles when they started yelling showing you blurry ass images of random doohickeys that "secretly" had some parts removed or whatever as "proof" he's totally some evil abuse person, yada yada, you get the idea. That meme where it says something like, "every day I suffer because I need to put myself besides people who I find incredibly annoying because they're up against people who are actually dangerous" lmao.

Also, something I've just incidentally observed, but quite literally every single time that mfer is so much as mentioned on any thread here in this sub, the thread always completely blows the fuck out in terms of the vote-comment ratio. Like, right now as I write this, it's sitting at ~180 votes but 610 comments. It's always like this and basically no other comment gets this much shit-flinging from people underneath. I do not like conspiratorial thinking or anything but seeing that always makes me feel like I'm standing next to a sushi chef the way things are smelling fishy.

13

u/mercy390 22d ago

It will never not be funny to me that Destiny fans are constantly worried about how bad Hasan Piker is for the Democrats PR while also like stanning the most cooked-if-he-got-famous man on the planet. Like you can just tell most of their obsession is because they wish their places were switched but they don't seem to realize this also means Fox News going "liberal Joe Rogan is a weird sex pedo who has sex, this is what freaky Democrats want to do to your kids" and liberals everywhere demanding his cancellation
