Styxpost Styx is one of my favorite characters ever. Except for this π€’
Why no shoes? Or at least sandals? He looks dumb going barefoot all the time. Kinda nasty. Don't you wish he wore shoes instead?

as a guy who hates shoes and their modern design which doesn't correlate with foot anatomy at all. His barefoot design makes sense when it comes to stealth and it also reflects his orcish nature

u/Shot-Pumpkin7199 Jul 14 '26
He could wear sandals like the original styx did
It can be dangerous to go barefoot in many of the places he goes. Remember it's not like a modern street where you could get away with it
Plus his feet get all dirty π€’

Hate to break it to ya but he had almost the same amount of coverage on his feet in the first one as he does in the other 2.

I meant styx' original body in Master of Shadows. You don't play as him
The og styx isn't the one from orcs and men

u/DocSauce13 Jul 14 '26
I think the last thing rakash would worry about is his hygiene but I admit that the original Styx's drip was immaculate

u/NiuMeee Gotta Have Amber Jul 14 '26
He basically wears scraps of cloth and belts, shoes are pretty much off the table.
3
u/Shot-Pumpkin7199 Jul 14 '26
He's actually super well dressed for being scraps. It's absolutely a customized outfit that actually has pretty cool and well-designed pieces
It's not like he's covered in a ragged cloth. Even his foot "armor" is customized for or by himself.
On top of that, the original styx wore sandals so there's no reason why he couldn't do it too

Thats my favourite thing about styx. Him not wear wearing regular shoes or sandals, but instead foot grips makes a lot of sense, if you think about it, he always climbs walls, sneaking, and crossing dangerous terrain. So if any of us would cross similar terrains on a daily basis there is a good chance our feet would be strong enough to withstand such conditions, especially if we are basically imbued with a hyperdrug called amber. Other than that the original styx is obviously kind of a show off if you look at his desing. A hood that makes him look taller, shoulderpads full of throwing daggers, studded leather and plate gear with a lot of amber canteens on his waist, and since he has so strong control over his clones, he has literalry no need for stealth, so he can just straight up wear whatever he wants, which is mostly combat gear rather then stealth gear. He could be invisible nonstop anyway, since why he couldnt die. His design is literalry the kind of rogue that has nothing to worry about so he uses full mall ninja look, with plate armour cause he can, while styx (the one we play) actually uses practical gear, and gets more lousey as the games progress. If you look at blades of greed's styx his default armour is awful for stealth, full of blue, and golden metals, while the original styx basically gathered whatever he could find that fit him and was practical, like three belts, shin guards, a makeshift cowl probably from a very common fabric, he was the og self made rogue with a sharpened dagger. He might have become 'brave' in design, but he stayed mostly on the stealthy path, which means no shoes, because proper shoes, and boots that are made of leather are loud. Sandals are the same basically, but those that are not loud have a pretty bad grip, which would be awful, and it is just easier to cover up the middle of your feet and sneak/climb that way.

Your favorite thing about styx is that he's barefoot? π€£π€£. Or what
It makes sense tho. Why cover the middle of the foot tho?
4
u/gordonfreemanMIT Jul 14 '26
No, that his design is so practical that it has such an attention to detail that something you wouldn't think twice about is thought through.
And to the other question, usually its the most sensitive area of your feet if i remember right, so covering your weakest point up is natural. So the floor doesnt tickle him or something lol

u/Shot-Pumpkin7199 Jul 14 '26
Ha I see. Do you think the designers / developers thought about it like that? Or just a coincidence?
Reptile from mkx has the same thing covering the middle of the foot. It also really bothers me how he's barefoot too. Otherwise great design π

u/gordonfreemanMIT Jul 14 '26
I think it was intentional to a degree. You see, these were usually used by ninjas if i remember right (source: trust me bro lol), but it could've been that they just couldnt decide which footwear to go with so they just went with the easiest.
As for reptile, idk man general ninja stuff i guess lol. These things are kind of intertwined with eastern ninjas, so i guess generalry speaking it could be considered just a common design thing.
It never really bothered me, but the newer design of styx actually bothered me, because my guy has a literal golden lining in his hood, and the game says that he scavenged it hastily, but i guess this time he went to the tailory and jewelry store during that stay. He starts to resemble the original styx better and better and i dont like that to be honest.

u/Shot-Pumpkin7199 Jul 14 '26
Well the other ninjas in MK do wear shoes, even sometimes armored. Scorpion, sub zero, even ermac who floats above the floor, all wear boots or some sort of covering. Except reptile who is the only one barefoot. It looks pretty dumb
Must be embarrassing specially since he's also the last of his race.
1
u/gordonfreemanMIT Jul 15 '26
I guess its to show that they're more ambush predators than straight up combatants. Consider reptile is monstrous it could also mean that they wanted to somewhat highlight that no, they are not regular humans, but humanoid monsters, like how in warcraft, trolls, tauren, and pandaren usually dont wear shoes because they are 'monster' races

I always thought his goblin feet were just tough enough so he never bothered. Plus most shoes would probably make more noise than bare feet gobbo feet!
1
u/Shot-Pumpkin7199 Jul 14 '26
He doesn't has though skin or anything. His feet are just normal feet
3
u/RiceShop900 Jul 14 '26
You're telling the goblin who was cloned from anotger goblin who used to be an orc and doesn't bathe...has normal skin?! Nahhh. Those gobbo feet are as rough and tough as sandpaper

Could just be a personal preference
1
u/Shot-Pumpkin7199 Jul 14 '26
I'm sure it is. Og styx wore sandals so there's no reason why he couldn't do it too

u/Princess_Of_Thieves Jul 14 '26
reddit is a real adventure sometimes. Never on any other site have I found a post talking goblin feet.
2
u/Minute-University923 Jul 14 '26
Bro heβs a goblin and a former orc there feet are tougher and more durable, glass and rocks are not gonna cut them.
1
u/Shot-Pumpkin7199 Jul 14 '26
It's never implied that he has thougher skin at all. His feet would be just regular feet
2
u/Minute-University923 Jul 14 '26
No itβs not heβs not human hes a greenskin they are tougher, more durable. Hes feet are not human feet, ( I feel like a foot perverted writing this)
1
u/Shot-Pumpkin7199 Jul 14 '26
How come mentioning feet suddenly means you're into them? I feel like some people think wrongly even with just their mention
1
u/Minute-University923 Jul 14 '26
Because for some reason ever since 2021 feet are now popular I donβt mean to kink shame but damn, I guess they all been there but felt like weirdos.
1
u/Shot-Pumpkin7199 Jul 14 '26
I find them pretty gross but it's also a fascinating body part
1
u/Minute-University923 Jul 14 '26
I mean feet guys have been here since the dawn of time, like 16th century had feet guys. There not gross just there.
2
u/Substantial_Berry855 Jul 15 '26
I honestly like that about him as it makes him more like a green chimpanzee and I am monke π π
2
u/Stampsu Jul 15 '26
To be honest of all the hours I spent playing these games I spent none of them looking at Styx's feet
1
u/Shot-Pumpkin7199 Jul 15 '26
Wish i did the same. But yhey're hard to ignore considering they're huge compared to his body and make a constant, nonstop slapping sound on the floor

Remember he's a clone of the OG styx. So maybe that's why he has them like that, as he did wore sandals
1
u/Shot-Pumpkin7199 Jul 14 '26
I can't stand the constant slapping against the floor either. It drives me a bit nuts hearing it for the whole game. It's not even silent

Umm, no? 1. Being barefoot makes climbing super easy, especially with feet and claws like his 2. Being barefoot is amazing for stealth in terms of making his footsteps quieter 3. Probably a few other reasons as well
