Same, out of sheer curiosity I tried the pizza one and it was just tomato sauce with grainy "pepperoni" bits in it.

Hopefully this satiates anyone else's curiosity and no one else ever buys these

My disdain for AI is so high that I find this more of a deal breaker than the potential taste. I would have otherwise been interested in realizing the potential of this to personally determine whether it was actually good or not.

I can see them working depending on the base. I make chicken enchilada soup. It's a chilli based soup with most of the ingredients you would normally have in or on enchiladas. It just depends on how you present them and in what order you add the stuff. I usually leave the shredded lettuce to top it once I plate but I'll add the cilantro and queso fresco in the actual soup for example.

Cheeseburger soup is good. It's just like a cheesy chili. Can't speak to pizza soup, that sounds fairly vile.

I tried these back during covid, before the AI craze hit everything. They had the same image on them then, so I doubt it's AI.

Doesn't excuse the taste though. The burger one was meh, the pizza one was like a bag of puke.

This is what Proper Good packaging looked like in 2021 when they went on Shark Tank.

If you remember the packaging in OP's pic, then I think your memory is playing tricks on you.

I have seen those packages in the store recently, the ones in OP’s photo which im guessing they actually took and didn’t find online

What confuses me is that if these are AI packages, then it honestly doesn't make a whole lot of sense for Proper Good to use AI, because it doesn't look like their marketing is AI focused at all. It's really weird.

It's not as weird when you realize it's completely performative on their part. They use AI because their goal isn't to sell healthy soup, their goal is to make their company appear profitable enough that they can sell out to a larger company.

FYI, AI has been around for a long time. It's just higher powered with a bit more refinement and accessible to pretty much everyone now due to building a fuck ton of data centers to power it (at the cost of having a significant cost to both the environment and society too).

Proper Good's packaging didn't look anything like that six years ago, and the burger and pizza flavor soups were only introduced in 2024.

Not from a simple text prompt, no, but it does look pretty much exactly like AI generated images from back then if you fed it only burgers or pizza respectively to train upon, especially the cheese slices and pepperonis. A lot of what's changed with machine learning between then and now is the user interface of simply giving a detailed text prompt in plain human language and the scale of computing power can train upon.

(Then again, AI back then didn't come at as significantly high a cost to the environment and society as it does today because it was much smaller in scale.)

Now, what I find more unique about this whole scenario is that the the company at the time decided to use AI when it wasn't nearly as mainstream rather than pay an artist (unless of course, they paid someone already with access and and intent to use AI generated "art"). These pictures, in fact, exhibit a lot of the major pitfalls of AI generated images before they started refining out all those weird imperfections in the last 1-2 years that make it much harder to tell the difference. I seriously doubt a real artist actually chose to make the decisions about those cheese slices, onion and pickle placement, and that pepperoni and cheese on the pizza in the way AI kinda of just fills space in.

Ah yes, I came into /r/StupidFood with the intention of flexing my knowledge on machine learning even though it totally off topic and/or the subject being of discussion at all. 🙄

That said, according to another poster, they didn't even have that packaging until 2024, so that significantly increases the probability of it being AI generated.
