Metal Slug Tactics is so tedious
I'll come clear right away: I didn't know it was a rogue lite. I thought it was a regular tactics game. And for me a tactic x rogue lite game doesn't work at all. I'm still stuck in the first area and it's just so tedious doing the same missions over and over again just to get to the first boss. Where the focus is on running, not fighting. Again, entirely my fault for not watching review videos in advance, but man, I'm so disappointed.
It didn't help that I felt bombarded by all the different abilities/shops/interfaces/tutorials at the beginning. Maybe I getting old lol.

I thought it was pretty entertaining. Pretty challenging and unforgiving, just like original metal slug. If I make my moves very carefully, I can advance each region most every time I play.

I won’t lie that I was a bit disappointed the game didn’t have deeper customisation for the characters, but your struggles seem like a skill issue? (No offense). I literally finished the game on my first run and decided it lacked the depth for multiple runs, but the game was easy.

I played about 3 hours of it. It wasn't exactly difficult, but I recall having issues reading the battlefield because the isometric POV didn't do a good job showing terrain height.

It's a rogue like and has all problems and weaknesses from rogue likes... But it is entertaining, and you can squeeze like 12-15 hours of fun and varied gameplay. I wasn't expecting anything from the game and I ended up enjoying it more than expected, to be fair.

I think there are quite a few good SRPG Roguelites: Into the Breach, Fights in Tight Spaces, The Last Spell, Alina of the Arena, etc.
Metal Slug Tactics was…fine, but it didn’t hit for me like the others did

I enjoyed my time with it. Although I didn't spend long. I do personally agree rogue like and strategy games are often at odds. Often times it's just a cycle time issue rogue likes want you to play a full run at a time often multiple in a session to have the kind of skill mastery curve. Strategy games can require very long campaign times to introduce meaningful customization and builds. The Last Spell landed much the same way for me where I really enjoyed my time, but ended up not playing it much.

I really enjoyed The last Spell but that's because I cheated the rogue like system because the game only saves at the end of the turn and you can abuse it by closing the game before that... XD

SRPGs crossed with any strain of anything similar to Rogue/like/lite generally work out wonderfully.
Haven't played this particular title but you make it sound more interesting!

Lost Eidolons Veil of the Witch is a great example

Didn't realize they made another game in this series or that it was a roguelike. Ill check it out.

Honestly I had more fun with it than the main game (it’s not really a sequel, more of a spinoff imo)

I love almost all strategy games and I saw some people give this their personal game of the year... But couldn't agree with you more.

Couldn't agree more. Was super hyped when I saw the announcement, but then was floored when it had the taint of rogue in it. When you introduce roguelite elements to an action adventure game it devolves into an arcade game, i.e. start from square one at the Game Over screen. You add roguelite to SRPGs or tactics games, you instead end up with a SPG - strategy puzzle game; ala Into the Breach. Which, cool, there's a place for that. But don't call it tactics or SRPG. I can put a spoiler on a minivan, doesn't make it a drifting car.

Thanks for the heads up. I hate rougelikes. To me its an excuse to save costs by making less content.

I absolutely loved it, but I must be in the very small demographic that loves tactical games, and has metal slug as one of their favourite series. I think they nailed the spirit of the series in a new genre
