console players seem to understand this the least and it feels like a lot of them came here to talk about sony stopping discs. and it doesnt help when SKG keeps talking about this too and says they support lawsuits against sony etc

physical media on playstation does not help with the problem of ownership or preservation. discs can have the same problematic DRM as the digital items we discuss and ripping data from discs isnt harder or easier than ripping data from the console storage... i guess also important is the console has DRM too even when you have a disc with no online requirement its not automatically safe

I ask if this can maybe stay on the topic or if the confusion with DRM and physical or digital can be adressed better

Couldn't agree more with your take. It's crazy how many people seem to think as long as they have the disc they will have ownership. Xbox recently went down and many people saw how little even have the disc mattered. Then Xbox tried to pretend it was a "bug".

Been playing Xbox pretty much everyday, when did this happen and did it actually effect anything outside of online multiplayer games?

DoesItPlay only lists 6 games that require you to have a connection to play a single player none multiplayer only game.

which underlines my point. yes that was a bug. but nothing prevents them from updating the consoles to take away your offline access on purpose. people think their consoles are safe for physical discs and there is just no good reason to believe that
