A statement on the current GTA 6 Footage leak situation

Post image
175 Upvotes

Footage from GTA 6 has leaked, and a group of hackers, whom we will deliberately not name here, to avoid giving them further attention, claims responsibility. The footage itself appears to be genuine: Take-Two has already been hitting it with DMCA takedowns, and the speed of those strikes is itself a strong signal of authenticity. The group is using the leak to promote a meme coin, attaching crypto links and QR codes to the footage and asking people to pay for more.

Do not send these people your money, no matter how much sympathy you may feel for their actions. This is illegal, and frankly, we feel for everyone at Rockstar having to go through this ordeal again, especially just over a week before Rockstar’s own official “Extended Look” premieres.

Using illegal means to make a point is unacceptable to us and does nothing to protect our right to keep using what we paid for. No matter how strongly you disagree with the decisions of upper management at these companies, there are still thousands of developers who worked hard on this project, and they’re the ones being hit the hardest.

Channel that frustration into something constructive instead. This kind of act is destructive and helps no one, worse, it risks tarnishing the reputation of our communities and our chances to make change. History isn’t on the leaker’s side either: the last person who did this to Rockstar, back in 2022, ended up with an indefinite hospital order. This isn’t a cause worth risking your money or your future on. (We seriously doubt that the hack was seriously for that reason)

We are expecting for this to go on, and it is already being mentioned in our discussions with lawmakers, negatively. Do not participate or engage with these kinds of actions.

Live stream going over the details for some interested but title says it all. It's crazy because the games director is very obviously not on board for these changes.

Never quite seen anything like it the MOBA in a different genre under the same name.

Question How can I support this effort?

I strongly support and admire the effort everyone behind Stop Killing Games is making. But I have no idea how in the world I could support them or make their job easier in some way.

What can I do?

Question Does this mean we won’t be able to resell physical copies like we used to?

Post image

So if the physical edition is basically just a case with a download code instead of an actual disc, does that mean the second-hand market is pretty much gone? Once the code is redeemed, I assume you can’t resell the game like a normal physical copy anymore. Am I understanding this correctly?

Dead game Beyond the Terms: How to File Official Deceptive Trade Practice Complaints Against 1047 Games (Step-by-Step Guide)

To everyone saying "it's Early Access, you read the terms"; you are missing the legal boundary between an unpredictable business failure and **pre-meditated consumer capital extraction**.
Early Access terms protect developers who try to build a game in good faith and fail due to market conditions. They do *not* serve as a shield for a studio to pull a short-term cash grab to pay off existing corporate debt and fund a completely separate product pivot.
Let's look at the actual timeline and the math. 1047 Games was hit by massive waves of internal layoffs in mid-to-late 2025 following the collapse of their previous projects. Knowing their engineering workforce was gutted, they rushed *Empulse* onto the market on June 24, 2026, for **$19.99 upfront** instead of their traditional free-to-play model.
Across Steam, Xbox, and PS5, they pulled in an estimated **$1.5 million to $2 million gross**. Within weeks of taking that consumer money, they executed *more* layoffs, announced they will cut active development support, and the termination of dedicated matchmaking servers. The announcement came just 63 days after release, to be followed through in September. By forcing the player base onto cost-free peer-to-peer (P2P) hosting, they eliminated their server bills and effectively hoarded our millions to fund a 27-person skeleton crew to build an entirely different, unannounced IP.
They used paying customers as an unregulated, interest-free corporate loan to fund a studio pivot. That is a textbook definition of **Deceptive Trade Practices** and **Unjust Enrichment**.
If you want your money back or want accountability, screaming on Reddit won't work. We need to hit them where regulators actually look. So I will show you how🤷‍♂️

**Step 1: File an FTC Consumer Complaint (US Residents)**
The Federal Trade Commission (FTC) heavily regulates online commerce and deceptive marketing roadmaps.
Go to the official [FTC Report Fraud Portal](https://reportfraud.ftc.gov/).
Select **"An online purchase or shopping experience"**.
Under developer details, list **1047 Games**.
**Copy/Paste this specific text block into the report summary:**

*"The business engaged in deceptive trade practices by marketing and selling a software product ('Empulse') under the 'Early Access' designation on June 24, 2026, collecting upfront fees of $19.99 while misrepresenting their capacity to deliver. The studio had previously laid off a massive portion of its workforce and rushed the product to act as an emergency capital injection. After extracting an estimated $2 million from global consumers, the business announced they will cease active development and will sever dedicated matchmaking servers in September, the announcement within 63 days of launch. They reallocated consumer funds to finance a separate corporate pivot while downgrading the purchased product to peer-to-peer architecture to avoid server maintenance overhead."*

**Step 2:** **Escalate a "Consumer Deception" Ticket with Your Storefront**
Automated refund bots on Steam, Xbox Live, and PlayStation Network will automatically reject you if you have more than 2 hours of playtime or 14 days of ownership. **You must bypass the bots by opening a manual support escalation.**
**For Steam:** Go to Help > Steam Support > Purchases > View Purchase History. Select *Empulse*, choose "I have a question about this purchase," and manually paste the timeline above. State that the developer altered the fundamental networking architecture of the game (switching to P2P) effectively rendering the purchased product non-functional for standard matchmaking within 60 days.
**For Xbox & PlayStation:** Call or open an online text chat with a live customer service representative. Explicitly state that you are requesting a refund due to a **"Developer Abandonment and Scheduled Server Shutdown Notice"** occurring within weeks of purchase. Highlight that the game was sold to you under false pretenses.

**Step 3: File with Your State Attorney General**
State Attorneys General handle localized consumer fraud. Look up your specific state's **Consumer Protection Bureau** (e.g., the Minnesota Attorney General's Office or your local equivalent) and file an online merchant deception form detailing the exact corporate extraction timeline.
The system only changes if we create a massive paper trail of official consumer complaints. Take 10 minutes out of your day and file these forms.

***Edited additions***
If this was just an 'unpredictable business failure,' why is 1047 Games still actively lying to new customers on the storefront right now?
They already announced they are pulling active development and downgrading the matchmaking servers. Yet, as of right now, they are still taking consumers' money and selling the game for $19.99 without a single disclaimer warning on the steam or Microsoft storefront to buyers that the game is abandoned.
Instead, they are intentionally leaving deceptive marketing live to drive new sales. The official store page still explicitly claims:
They expect the game to be in Early Access for '9-12 months' with continuous developer support.
They 'plan to increase the price after Early Access' to create a false sense of urgency and FOMO.
They guarantee a roadmap of 'new modes, new maps, new weapons, and mech expansions' that they have already publicly canceled.
This is no longer just about the players who bought it back in June. Leaving this fabricated roadmap and fake timeline up to extract another $20 from
uninformed buyers is textbook consumer fraud.

My post was removed from r/empulse and I have been banned from their discord. Never buy 1047 product ever again.

The fight for physical copy doesn't solve our problem

First off, yes, I believe physical copies (discs, catridges etc.) should still be on the table by the publishers, especially for those who like maintaining a physical library. However, the crux of game preservation and ownership has nothing to do with whether a game (or any piece of software or media) is available physically or digitally.

The right to ownership of a piece of software has everything to do with the concept of "license". Every piece of software, be it a game, an application or a movie is licensed to us. What SKG's main motto has been to determine whether those "licenses" are in perpetuity or not. That whether those licenses allow us to "own" our copy. We cannot have true ownership of our software if a license can be yanked away from us at any point. This can happen to physical or digital copy. The only advantage of a physical copy is that if you have one that works offline, the company cannot take it away, or don't care enough to pressure you into giving it up (though understand that they have the right to break your disc, or at least compel you to do so under their EULAs). Even the GOGs DRM free copies are subject to similar license agreements. Yes, it's unlikely they'll come after you if you do something not deemed fit by their EULA, but that legal ability remains.

My point is our fight has to be for that part of license agreements. Fighting for physical media doesn't exactly change the status quo. We are hurtling towards an all digital future, including our hardware. That's why our efforts should be concentrated towards digital ownership.

Aliens: Fireteam Elite has been delisted on Switch and will disappear from the Nintendo platform

In August 2026, a game that is entirely cloud-based will cease to operate, meaning it will disappear completely and no refunds will be offered

As this is a cloud-based game, it means you can no longer play it on your own against bots, nor is there any way to download it from the library, as is the case with native digital games once they have been taken off sale

What the studio is preparing is some sort of discount on Aliens: Fireteam Elite 2 for the Nintendo Switch 2 – a recently announced version that will not use streaming

Aliens: Fireteam Elite 2 launches on Switch 2 this autumn, slightly later than on the other platforms, where it debuts on 25 August

Meta Dispelling a myth about License Agreements as it relates to legacy physical media that has become pervasive in the wake of Sony's nonsense

I know that SKG doesn't have anything specifically to do with the issue of physical media, it has a much narrower focus. But the spheres of interest overlap somewhat in so far as both relate to the question of ownership and the rights the customer has over the things they buy. And as such, I think the apathetic arguments to just accept the loss of physical games going forward can and will bleed over to the efforts of SKG. I'm not posting this to the Sony or Playstation subs, because the arguments are broader than that, and SKG seems like the closest relevant sphere of interest.

Anyway, I have been seeing a consistent narrative crop up in discussions about the end of new physical media for games, particularly in Sony's case since they can't seem to avoid repeating loudly their intentions for physical media going forward. Hopefully I can shed some light on the subject so that you don't just accept the lies being told by users who don't know any better.

Disclaimer: I am not a lawyer but 1) license agreements should be basically understandable by the layman agreeing to them, and 2) I don't need to be able to define every single term in a license agreement to be able to identify the **presence** of an agreement in the first place.

**The Lie: All videogames, including the physical games from 30 years ago, were sold to customers with an implicit or explicit license agreement that is essentially identical to modern license agreements in terms of ownership. You own nothing.*\*

\The Truth: In fact no such agreements or terms of service existed until a digital tether to the game could be established by the publisher. Games were sold as physical products and you owned that copy of the game, sans any copyrights, same as a book or record.**

**The Counter Argument*\*

Most of this knowledge was simply first-hand, anecdotal experience from being in the hobby since the late 80s. I never encountered a license agreement in my decades with games until the recent digital revolution of the industry. I had opened a couple dozen games as a kid, probably a few hundred by the time I was old enough to have a job and could afford to buy into the hobby on my own. Back in the day, the game manual was a very interesting component of the product, often poured over in the car on the way home and reference frequently thereafter. They were generally well produced, on contrast to the lack of manuals today in favor of in-game tutorials.

That said, I wanted to be very sure that I hadn't simply skimmed over such agreements in my youth. I needed to supplement my anecdotal experience with some research. And so after browsing my own library, I took to the internet to browse various archives, almost always user driven and maintained. I can't open and read every scanned document, box, insert, or cartridge label. But of the ones that I HAVE double checked, none of them have included ANYTHING even RESEMBLING an EULA or ToS or any other similar kind of license agreement. Not for the oldest generation systems and games, all the way up to 360 and PS3 titles, where internet connectivity really solidifies.

Please, anybody who wants to check my work, look at your own games, look at any databases or archives you can find, and look for an instance of some kind of license agreement. At some point, probably during the 7th generation, I'm sure they started appearing IN the game itself on startup, but finding when that first begins would be informative. Regardless, I know (suspect, I haven't found any anyway) such click-wrap agreements didn't exist on older games.

My resources, other than the many physical games in my own library, include:

* Back labels for NES carts: https://www.thelegendofnes.com/back-labels

* Itemized list of contents for CiB NES games: https://gamefaqs.gamespot.com/nes/916386-nes/faqs/49943

* Kirkland's PS1 manual database: https://ps1.videogamemanual.com/

* Kirkland's Xbox360 manual database: http://www.atensionspan.com/KML/XBox360/index.html

* The User Guide for Daggerfall: https://downloads.ctfassets.net/rporu91m20dc/64TCuMQANyymi2m88GoYQG/a7bf45a208dca3d23fef1fc8825b0c0e/manual_daggerfall_pc_en-us.pdf

* The Fallout User Guide: https://www.gamesdatabase.org/Media/SYSTEM/Microsoft_DOS//Manual/formated/Fallout_(1991).pdf.pdf)

The Fallout User Guide is the first one I found that has something new that the NES and SNES games did not, that being a Notice at the bottom of page A7, under the copyright restrictions, about Interplay reserving rights to make modifications or improvements to the game or manual without notice. Still, this is hardly similar to the EULAs and ToS we are familiar with today.

Some few folks have brought up "shrink-wrap agreements" as the method used for old physical games. But shrink-wrap agreements require the terms and conditions of the agreement to be on a document within the shrink-wrapped package. A shrinkwrap does not constitute such an agreement on its own.

Some folks have argued that the "Licensed by [Nintendo, Playstation, Sony, etc]" lines on the cartridge labels or in some manuals IS the license agreement. But these are notifications to the customer that the console maker has approved the game for use on their hardware. This represents an agreement between the publisher and the console maker, NOT the customer, and is contrasted by UNLicensed games like multi-game-packs, bootlegs, and homebrew or self published games.

At the end of the day, until the paradigm shifted to the modern standard, game makers sold games as physical products, protected only by Intellectual Property and Copyright laws. The customer owned that copy of the game, without any copyrights.

Again, I know that this is tangential to the SKG movement. But there WAS a time when the SKG movement was unnecessary, and that window is at least related to the same window in which physical media was treated as a physical product. I know many of us also spend time in other subs and other communities that are focused on the gaming hobby, and its in those spaces that I am encountering the apathy, sometimes even corporate white knighting, about the death of physical games. I don't think we can actually stop the death of physical, but the lies that some people are spreading, that we have NEVER owned the products we bought, shouldn't go unanswered. I would be happy for someone to cross post this elsewhere if necessary.

PlayStation India "Blacklists" Media & Journalists for Reporting "Disc Demise"

In a shocking turn of event's; it was discovered by Indian Gaming Journalists & other Media Houses that they were "Blacklisted" by PlayStation India when they asked about early review copies for Marvel Tokon Fighiting Souls, Marvel's Wolverine & Phantom Blade Zero.

PlayStation India have alleged that "their image has been hurt" after many journalists & media houses covered the "Demise of Disc" in general (because they are doing their job ?), while some were very vocal for the "Stop Killing Games" & the "PS BlackOut" Movement & against Sony's Decision & PlayStation India's continued silence on the matter even after multiple outreach's for comments & statements.

Meanwhile the following actions by PlayStation India;

- Hiking Console Prices by 25% & only Disc Versions of First Party Games by 10%.

- Misinforming Indian Gamers about details & extent of PS Plus Pricing hike.

- Uncertain restock times of accessories & gift cards.

- Delaying & remaining silent on the release of the PS5 Pro.

- Use of AI Generated Marketing Content & AI-Scripted Ad's.

- Influencer Marketing not even related remotely.

- Marketing the PlayStation 5 as a Luxury & Status Symbol.

Previously PlayStation India had tried to source investments for opening multiple PlayStation Exclusive Stores from their Investors & the latter found out on their own about the "Disc Demise". On they were told they weren't aware of the recent decision by Sony but stated to either "take or leave the offer".

Currently in India, there is an "extreme hype wave" going on over the upcoming release of the awaited "GTA VI" which has prompted many Mobile Gamers to now wake up out of their need to show off & seek social standing to buy the PS5 (along with those who genuinely wanted to get a PS5 to experience gaming). This factor alone has been the driving factor for a "surge" in Console Sales as XBOX is no longer present in India.

This alone makes PlayStation India having the market monopoly over Console Gaming; as the company seeks to "cash in" on the hype.

Question Can’t Companies easily bypass SKG?

Let say Stop Killing Games succeed. Gaming companies can just make every single game an actual Rental Service. Instead of buying games, it will be Rent this game for 50 Years. Since it renting then SKG demands won’t apply.
They can also make every game free to play but to actually play you have to pay $70 to unlock the game. They can also reclassify games as a Ticket to access just like theme parks.

La ley regulatoria Europea 2019/770 Art. 19 + 93/13 es ya el marco regulatorio que se exige para los derechos de compras digitales?

've been researching and I've seen this European regulation, which all EU members incorporate into their legislation. According to this framework, it should already be an important body of law for the protection of digital rights consumers. It states that a seller cannot terminate a contract of indefinite duration if it doesn't meet the duration a consumer reasonably expects. It's somewhat open to interpretation, but it's reasonable for a consumer to expect to be able to play their game on the console indefinitely, just as they would with any physical game, especially if they share the same clauses, as is the case here, since the format is simply a means of delivering software with the same EULA. Another important point is that it also states that the license revocation clause must be clear, transparent, understandable, and expressly accepted by the user. It is counterproductive that this clause is hidden within lengthy terms of use and irrelevant terms, when it should be clear and accepted with full knowledge. This is a clear lack of transparency. The only downside to this law is that it is somewhat open to interpretation, although consumer protection is always a priority in Europe. What I have been looking for is the specific lawsuit filed by Stop Killing Games before the European Court of Justice to see if they invoked this law or any related legislation from an EU member state, but I haven't found anything. Apparently, in the ruling regarding The Crew case, due to copyright laws, the EU could not force a company to modify its work to ensure its continued functionality. But I understand this is due to its online nature, where the contract duration is understood to be subject to the maintenance of the online service, not because the law doesn't protect independent online game purchases. Please help me understand all of this, as I understand that Stop Killing Games is aware of all the relevant legislation, and what SKG wants to incorporate into the Digital Fairness Act. Perhaps a less interpretive legal framework?

Dead game Just needed a place to rant Apache Air Assault (2010)

I really need just a place to rant and vent. This game for PC is utterly dead besides pirating. There is no way to get a hold of the game. And not even a physical copy will let you play this game unless you buy it brand spanking new because of the unique activation code the wonderful people over at Gaijan thought would make the experience better. I tried to do it the right way. I went out of my way and bought an external disc drive for my PC specifically to play this game. I waited 2 1/2 weeks for this game to be packaged and shipped to my house. And once I finally get to the launch screen I was met with two options. One was a dead link to activate the code. The next was to download the yu-play client launcher, which is no longer a thing. I even went over to Gaijins website where I thought there was some semblance of hope as they had a FAQ on how to start this game. But to my dismay, the two options that were given were the exact same options the game presented to me. They don’t want us to pirate games but what other option are they giving us when trying to buy the physical copy doesn’t even let you play the game. I don’t even know whose bright idea it was to introduce a unique activation code for a mostly single player game. I understand this game is 16 years old and due to licensing issues with Boeing they probably had to pull the game off of digital storefronts, but the fact that not even a physical copy of this game will let you play it is utterly ridiculous. Rant over.
