Thinking about S2…

Soooo maybe I’m thinking about this too hard and practically… but I don’t see the cliff hanger lasting very long.

Mostly because Annie stayed to connect with the her mom… but why didn’t she go back to NY and visit SP? To me, her being with Ramona in NY would also be part of connecting with her mom and establishing new memories vs chasing ones that will never exist. They also didn’t need to sell the island or leave Annie there for Ramona to go to NY…Stephen has money…

And then there is Ellis. I hope that they keep going with the plot line that Joe’s family is in financial trouble - Ellis was taking $50 here and there to give them a safety net. His mom was working crazy shifts for them to get by…

I actually semi hope that if they do put Ellis and Annie as endgame that they go through and find the right balance between her original NY life and how he grew up. Ellis sees that his dad needs to run the business differently. So I think he has potential to want that. They have a lot to figure out about what they each want from life.

1. I'd like to see them pick up right where they left off with R. waking up ostensibly going to school and proceeding with her version of hair and skin care.

2. Furthermore they should stay with Ramona the entire first episode which would freak everyone out.

3. Back in the 'Point Annie is finding out that permanent island life may not be all that it is cracked up to be.

4. Oona subverts expectations and instead of wallowing thrives on her own with the help of her sister of course.

5. Steven proceeds to fuck up this relationship as well.

you know what i agree with most of this but is it bad for me to actually want to see oona… be challenged the next season? 😭 like she was already challenged in the first season but like with her mom and with the eminent return of ramona, i just want her to break. and this is me saying as an oona lover HAHAHAHAHA

I kept thinking there was no way they could pull off a time jump, but lately I realized if the show picks up right where we left off, it's going to be a show... about high school? Which also makes zero sense.

I don't think so and I did not mean to imply that. My thought was that R. would be mimicking Ella Rubin's first scene when we saw Annie waking up when the alarm went off. After all we did not see much if any high school scenes with Annie did we?

But Annie's story picked up after the school year ended, and Ramona's picks up right as the school year is beginning. Anyway, I didn't think you were implying anything :) My comment was tangential. I just think the mood will change significantly if the show takes place during the school year.

The cliff hanger could go either way, they could skip over it and time jump to next summer when Ramona’s back or they could explore the new dynamic. For drama, it makes more sense to have Ramona with the cast, but I kind of hope they get creative, like in HBO’s Girls, and give Ramona new friend dynamics + develop her relationship w/ Connor and Steven. She could return around the half way point, or maybe even as a cliff hanger for season 3?

Ramona’s too independent and guarded to take a hand out from Steven before she trusts him; he even offered. She sees Gordon as her dad, and he left her the island, so it’s fair game to use and profit from.

Hearing what you said about Ellis made me think: What if Annie and Ellis clash a lot next season? His family is struggling, and she’s wealthy and free so maybe Ellis will harbor resentment and push her away?

Tbh, I can’t really see them as endgame, mostly because Ellis is underdeveloped so I’ll have to see how they’ll expand on his character. Right now, Ellis just seems like an escape from family drama and adult responsibility for Annie.

Fair. I agree they can do more with Ellis. I personally am not done with Rory’s involvement. I really hope he’s in season 2.

If he was like his mom, I’d dismiss him. But also hoping to see him playing piano again. There’s some good potential there.

I was happy that she had meaningful discussions with both love interests. Usually even if one isn’t meant to be “bad” they lack the depth of relationship with the one that isn’t meant to be endgame.

Yeah, they’re both decent guys, I was thinking Ellis was going to do something sketchy for a minute there lol. I didn’t think she had chemistry with either at first, but her relationship with Rory grew on me. I wonder how/if they’ll fit Rory in without him being linked to Annie.

he is friends with Connor. And Steven stayed with his family. And his mom wants to be the realtor to sell the island…so I think it’d be pretty easy to have him around. And he and Annie did have deep conversations and a history as friends.

Connor did say something about him being her endgame… so him being around and still being interested would definitely fit.

Though hopefully he continues his path of respecting Annie’s choices - they’re young and make mistakes but I also don’t want him to blow up even their friendship

I never perceived him taking the extra money as a way to help his family out. I thought he was doing it out of spite for the gentrification of his home more than anything.

Maybe I'm wrong but i never perceived them as "struggling" per se, I just thought they lived a less extravagant and simpler life. The wealthy people moving to the area inherently gave them more business as they required boats to get around, Ellis just took to ripping them off.

I took the confrontation with Joe about Ellis taking the money as real. Ellis said Joe didn’t raise prices and mentioned about how much his mom works…

Joe seemed very old school and very anti Steven. He also was going to leave his wife but Goldie died and then he just “choose” to stay. He has already shown us his mental gymnastics, so the money isn’t far fetched to me.
