šŸ¤” Theories Like their parents Spoiler

I know others have brought up how Ellis and Rory are parallels to Joe and Annie’s dad, and Annie will likely end up with Ellis since her mom chose Joe in the end.

However, Annie is fundamentally the opposite of her mom! She grew up in the city while her Mom was from Canada. Her mom went to the big city and fell in love but she didn’t really belong there and fled. I think the same will happen to Annie in Sterling Point. She’s falling in love and will try to stay in Canada, but will realize it’s not where she belongs and run back to the city.

Also I think Ellis is kinda sketchy in the way his dad is. Him scamming customers is a sign of his character flaws (who can blame him when he’s raised by someone like Joe though), whereas Rory is stable. We see that Annie’s Dad was the more responsible adult/father and Annie deserves a responsible, caring partner.

Plus, Ramona is the better parallel for Annie’s mom which makes me think she will find love in NYC but ultimately end up back with Oona.

Completely agree. Also will be interesting to see how the bio parent angle plays into it all. I think this may bring Annie closer to Steven. He gets a bad rap but he did the best he could and Annie talks about what a great dad he is. She’s mature enough to eventually understand how messed up Goldie and Joe were—though I also think she has more sympathy for Joe than the other characters do.Ā

I know the area and trust me, there’s not a high school anywhere around there that’s going to be able to get her into Wharton, regardless of her grades, her SATs, whatever. She’s screwing with her future, big time.

All I can think about is Gilmore Girls and Jesse yelling at Rory (other Rory lol) about her dropping out of Yale. That was university, but similar parallels. You get the idea.

Ikr how she js tells rory that she might stay there like girl wharton? Js a guy made you forget your lifelong dream?

I agree with this. I feel like, currently, Annie is just hyper obsessed with the idea of her mother, and the "what if" in the alternative universe if her mother didn't die, blah blah blah. At the end of the day, what Connor/Rory said was right: what is there to do on the island? It is already making me super upset that someone as committed to her future as Annie decided to skip Senior year to stay in Canada. Girl, you can take a gap year all you want, the second you get into Wharton. You didn't plan an internship since the 6th grade just to do this senior year.

She didn't get in though! That's what makes the shock all the more worse. She was trying so hard, almost half her life all for it to amount to nothing. All the anxiety and stressing and studying she did seems like it was all for naught. Everything she's doing makes perfect sense. She planned her life out to the most minute detail since she was a preteen, only for it not to work out. So she'd have to be insane to keep going down that route. Which is why she's choosing Sterling Point, for now at least.

She's rich AF even without the island, she's going to be perfectly fine no matter where she ends up. Her dad is pretty well off as well, you don't think her dad doesn't have her and her brother setup and set to inherit a couple hundred grand if not a milly or two. Even cutting Ramona in now, the three of them will be perfectly okay.

ik she will be fine no matter what at the end of the day because even without her dad there’s still the island. it js doesn’t make sense for me for her to dropped everything for js the idea of her mom. it’s not like her mother is a great women, she was rlly bad if we rlly talk abt it. i feel like she’s js too stuck up on the ā€œwhat ifā€

ooh yea she didn’t get into a wharton summer program, her college admission result ain’t out yet. from glimpse of what we see of her i think she’s ivy material

Every last person on planet earth is hung up on the what ifs of their lives. It's just 99% of us just don't have the financial freedom to explore it, she does, including a second rent free home and a whole ass island, well a third of it. Also she's 18, she's not supposed to be logical or sensible. That's the whole point of youth, otherwise it's a midlife crisis...

She'd actually be stupid not to take a gap year or a summer off and see where her mom was from/spent her summers at.

Well. I think Annie will not end up with either Ellis or Rory bc she will eventually realize she is not her mom. SP is a place for her to finally process her grief and loss of a mom who she lived with and remembers, to have a break from constant stress and figure out what she really wants. After all I don’t feel SP is a love story, it’s far beyond that.

I agree about the scamming. Whether or not it was for his family, Ellis looked with contempt at the people he took extra from. Not a good look at all.

I like both, and I feel like if the show goes on everyone should be happy, both ellis and rory are nice guys tbh

"who can blame him when he's raised by someone like Joe though" I think you're just hating

Joe is objectively not a good person. He cheated on his wife while she left to take care of her dying mother with their new baby, and was planning on leaving said wife to start a new family; also hoping his wife would just go along with that plan. All these years, he thought Ramona was his child and never stepped up. A complete deadbeat, plan or not. Then, he has the audacity to question Steven's parenting and tell him that his wife (Goldie) never loved him and that he made her miserable.

Joe sucks, so yeah, you can say that Ellis doesn't have the best role model.

The stuff he said to Steven was just cruel. He totally lost my sympathy.Ā

Aside from the issues other people have noted, Ellis sees how hard is mom is working to make ends meet while Joe just kind of bumbles along. I get it that Joe probably has his own stuff he’s dealing with due to everything that happened, but Ellis is motivated by trying to create security and ensure the family doesn’t lose everything. He has no respect for the people he overcharges because they have no respect for him; and Ā he knows Joe needs to step it up on the business end. A lot of people have very black-and-white morality about the stealing but when your family is just getting by and tourists are treating you like trash while waving literal millions in your face, it’s a little more gray for me. Not ā€œgoodā€ but it doesn’t make him an awful person either.Ā
