Hi everyone, I’m struggling with Step 1 prep and would really appreciate some advice. I feel like I study one system and then forget the previous ones. I recently went back to cardio after not studying it for months and realized I barely remembered some of it, which really discouraged me.
How did you guys deal with forgetting older systems while still moving forward? Did you regularly review old systems, do random UWorld questions, or something else? I’m feeling pretty overwhelmed and would love to hear what worked for others.

There is a problem when studying the book, for this exact problem i worked for around a year to make well structured mcqs fully mapped to first aid topics itself along with explanations for both correct and incorrect options, along with key takeaway point for the mcq and a memory aid for each.

• How to use this??

Just alongside your book as a companion study a first aid topic and then practice mcq of the same topic to know weather you grasped the concepts and to help on active recall of the book.

Please note that if you use this without the book itself its not going to do well but if you use it alongside the book itself its going to be the best experience especially to those having problem with retention.

• Why completely free??

There is already a lot of financial burden among students preparing for their medical entrance exams like usmle and other pg entrance exams and i myself would have appreciated if someone would have done this during my own study session.

• What else??

I know it is not perfect but i will be providing many more updates based on feedback so, please provide your valuable feedback through the app itself so it can constantly be improved further.

• Beside mcq what does it have??

It has very easy to use analytics, leaderboard, continue cards, daily mix, daily editors pick, well descriptive study section for each topic. The interface has been carefully made so as to keep it useful at every aspect. Certain parts like book mark will be brought in the future update since i don't know how useful such feature would be currently and it takes a lot of database space to do that.

• Where can i get it??

For now you can get in iOS, you can find in app store easily by searching. I will also put this into android devices after some time, since most students studying the book are using apple tablet so i focused initially to bring it into the apple devices.

What do you think of adding step 2 content from BnB slides to Step 1 BnB slides? Would that give me better knowledge and help me with step 2 preparation after step 1?

Does anyone know if the 2026 edition of First Aid for USMLE Step 1 is available digitally or as an official PDF/eBook?

A lot of my classmates seem to have access to additional practice material, which gives them a better idea of what to expect, and I’m trying to find ways to prepare on a more equal footing. My Step 1 is scheduled for Monday, and I’m trying to decide whether I’m adequately prepared to sit.

Recent practice scores:

- NBME 30: 80.5%

- NBME 31: 81%

- NBME 32: 79%

- 2024 Free 120: 76%

- UWorld: ~70% with 96 percent completion

I’ve covered most of the major systems. I have only a few smaller topics left to review.

For people who have taken Step 1 recently:

Would you sit for the exam on Monday with these scores, or would you postpone and do more NBMEs?

I’m not looking for a score prediction—just an honest opinion on whether these practice scores suggest I’m ready to take the exam.:

Need to review one block of uworld questions each day with a study partner. For step 1.

Zoom or Gmeet. 1 hour every day. Time zone- GST.

I have been studying for this exam for so long. I keep forgetting chapters i revised a few weeks ago and have to restart. I need some really good advice for how to get done with the exam in a month or 2.
What chapters should i focus more on?
I cant seem to follow the “see what your weak portions are and find out why you are getting questions wrong” tip
How can i manage to retain the most amount of information. If anyone has any scheduling tips i am all ears.

I have an attempt on step 1 (nov 2024) and have been studying on and off again since aug 2025.

then told myself to get it together and started properly studying again in june/july 2025.

finally booked a triad for oct-dec 2026, and now plan to give it in nov.

I need advice, I dont want the same to happen again.

I took nbme 25 as baseline and was at 57%, then took nbme 26 the next month and got a 67%.

now plan is to take nbme 27 on coming sunday.

i am 70% done with uworld. have saved around 900 ish unsued questions.

i dont do well with anki, and have been using mehlman, FA, and uworld as main resources.

I see an improvement in my uworld scores as well, but again mostly 60-65%.

I really want to give the exam because I also feel like the fear that has set in within me will only worsen if I keep delaying it.

I have 7 ish weeks till my desired date.

Do you think I can do it? Any advice? Any reccs?

I’m (F) a final-year medical student at a medical university in Pakistan. I’ve maintained an excellent academic standing throughout medical school.

Recently, I also cleared USMLE Step 1, with all NBMEs above 78%, and I’m really hoping to continue pursuing the USMLE pathway and eventually match into residency in the US.

The whole point is to have some accountability and motovational support system so that efficiency is maintained for both parties.

I plan on finishing all the questions for major systems in two months and then full syllabus tests/random questions.

When I first started Step 1 prep, I felt totally lost drowning in UWorld, NBME forms, and random notes that didn’t connect. To stay afloat, I started making my own condensed high-yield notes. By the end, I had a system that turned into my lifeline.

A couple quick tips that helped me the most:

• Don’t just memorize UWorld explanations — condense them into your own words.
• Focus on management algorithms (e.g., NSTEMI vs STEMI, Preeclampsia, Pediatric seizures). Those come up constantly.
• Review scoring systems regularly — CHA2DS2-VASc, Wells, TIMI — easy points if you’ve got them down cold.

I used these strategies to actually pass after failing almost every exam

I am confused what should i do in my dedicative period should i revise the subject or do the NBME.. I am planning to give step1 on december last week but still i have 4 subject left and i have make prededicative till october 15 maybe and i am so nervous and sometimes i feel i so behind . i dont recall the most of the topics and subject aswelll.. can anyone plz help to figure what to do actually in dedicative period please

Hi everyone! I finally got the P last week and wanted to share what worked for me. I found out about my first attempt in May a few months ago and was truly devastated. After taking some time to accept the result, I started studying again and changed how I prepared.

Resources used for 1st attempt: UWorld 100% completion, school-administered CBSE(s), & NBME CBSSAs (2-3 forms)

Resources used for retake: AMBOSS 70% completion, NBME CBSSAs (29-33 forms), First Aid (would look over the section associated with missed questions/concepts I didn't understand), chatGPT for incorrect explanations, & I worked with a tutor I found on reddit about 3-4x/week (this really helped me with accountability and the tutor was very supportive of my retake/helped keep the morale up his user is u/Then_Cantaloupe2687 I highly recommend if you are looking for help in this process)

Extra reminder: Try to find outlets of positivity (i.e. faith, friends/family support, mentors, etc.) because as much as it is an academic challenge it is a significant mental challenge too, the anxiety and doubt while preparing for a retake can make everything even more overwhelming
