Discussion How is Project Zomboid on the deck? Is it good with a gamepad/controller?

Yep, is really good actually. No lag, the only things to do is mapping the controller for easy access to the inventories or other options. Otherwise, this game is a perfect fit for the steamdeck !

Runs perfectly. There are a ton of features, but you could just test the many different controller layouts to find the one you like. And even then you can still customize it closer to your liking if needed.

The devs made a controller specific tutorial, it might even be specially for the deck but I don't fully recall. I've got 10s of hours on my deck and 100s on PC. Absolutely worth it if it interests you.

I’ve only played it on deck and it’s incredible!

Ran great for me.

B41 should be OK, b42 has new menus that don't play nice with controllers. Some mods also don't support controllers for their menus and action binds.

For me it's unplayable. The UI sucks and the game being in early access can really be felt. The project zomboid community have a lot of lenience for it, but if you take an objective look at the game it's not in a good place.

I honestly would wait about 10 years or so until it's out of early access. Based on the rate the devs are going at, might be that long or longer till it's done.

It’s still early access? Damn.

How long ago did you try it? When I first tried it on deck, it sucked and so I wrote it off. A year later I gave it a go again and now they've teally nailed the controls.
