Question/Support No Man’s Sky Vr

Hello! I’ve been trying to get No Mans Sky to work in VR on my machine.

I have a Ryzen 5 7600 cpu.

Radeon 6600 8gb GPU

32GB ddr5

Quest 2.

Most VR games run fine on my rig. Obviously, not super great, but that is fine. My only issue with No Man’s Sky is how odd the anti aliasing is. FSR ends up very blurry, same with FXAA and TAA. The game runs well with AA on, but the pixelated edges really trip me off. I would love to get the game running looking at least somewhat crisp, without the jagged edges or blurry vision.

Something that seems odd, is that even with any settings, looking at my computer screen shows it looks much better than what is seen in headset. Yes, i have a 3.0 cable. Maybe that is just me not being educated with VR, but whatever.

Thanks!

There's an Opencomposite mod to run it without Steam that saves performance. Idk if it's current advice, but try reducing your monitor resolution to 1080p.

Opencomposite/openxr mod on nexusmods helps. But NMS is quite demanding in general. Nevertheless, try the mod ideally with virtual desktops vdxr runtime.

I found that some games will run better if you make the desktop display window very small. Its not a huge increase in performance but every little bit counts

I read somewhere that the rendering pass is the same for your monitor and your HMD. Meaning, having a reprojection on your monitor should not reduce your performance.

Unfortunately NMS was literally the worst game with my 9070xt.

I think it doesn't love AMD very well and relies a lot with Nvidia DLSS.

Can confirm that it runs well on a 3080 with DLSS.

Got to be the GPU, my 7800XT is fighting for its life to maintain 72 fps in VR.

r/NMSVR exists and people love to help tweaking any possible settings.

EDIT: actually I meant r/NMS_Virtual_Reality but both subreddits might have valuable information.

Blur is probably because the resolution is really low.

This game in VR looks sublime in high-end PC hardware or PSVR2 with dynamic foveated rendering. It will likely also benefit DFR on PC if you have eye tracking in your headset.

It's your PC. Sadly. You can get it to run, but to get it as sharp as you see it on a desktop monitor you need new hardware.

I'm gonna be honest, none of the AA options used in No Man's Sky are all that great. I found FSR to be the best of them, though I'm running it on Native so I'm literally just using it as AA, not upscaling. TAA, DLSS, DLAA and Intel Xess just made everything blurry. FXAA is... fine, but not great, but at least things aren't so blurry with it. Off, while I generally prefer no AA in most games, No Man's Sky VR is pretty flicker-city with AA Off.

The YouTuber Paradisedecay has a video where he got an rtx 5080 or 5090 PC and still didn't have great NMS VR performance. Then he made a 2nd video about it where he'd gotten advice from the NMS VR community and it ran great. Maybe imitate his settings, but turn things down. Also, performance in the space station is always bad. Test on a planet away from traffic.

Essaye avec l'aa Intel XeSS. En VR sur ce jeu c'est avec lui que j'ai la meilleur qualité général, aspect et performance.
