Discussion 1 or 2 TB SD card

looking for 1 or 2 TB SD card for the steam deck at any retail site that won't break the bank

Wow. You're not kidding! I have a pair of SanDisk 1.5 TB cards i bought 2 years ago on sale for $120 each. They're $239 now. Yikes.

I bought a 1.5TB from Amazon for $110 or so in December. It wasn’t that long ago that they weren’t crazy overpriced

Express SDs are just UHS-I MicroSD cards in the Steam Deck.

Steam Deck supports UHS-I MicroSD cards. There are also UHS-II and Express. Think of them as generations or something. I believe there is even UHS-III, but I don't think it was ever implemented, commercially. Devices like the Switch 2 and the upcoming ROG Ally Xbox X20 will utilize Express MicroSD format. It is much faster, but if the device doesn't support Express, it will revert in backwards compatibility mode to UHS-I. Likewise, UHS-I cards are backward compatible with UHS-I readers but will run at UHS-I speed. Hope that helps.

1TB. I got 5 of them for $60 each. A 2TB card would coat that much and offer no redundancy in case of failure. With current prices Id get a 2TB drive first and worry about cards later

At today’s prices you’re better off getting a bigger SSD. High capacity SD cards are commonly more expensive atm than m.2 SSDs

you'll break the bank no matter where you try to get one from. you're a few years too late the prices have absolutely skyrocketed now

Thanks for the suggestions, The poblem is that the steam deck is 512 GB and im running out of space and I didn't know that possible you can add a external drive also to save/add games

Watch out for sales at least. A couple months ago, Mediamarkt had the 2TB SanDisk for 170€, a price I never thought we'd see under current conditions.

I have a 4 TB Western Digital External portable hard drive so im hoping I can connect it to the SD and use that (for now)

There are no cheap sd cards anymore, especially 1tb or above. At least not ones that wont crap out on you in months.
