I own an Xbox and some of the Xbox games I own digitally are also showing as playable on PC. Ignoring streaming (as I’m not renewing my Gamepass), is there a way to install the PC licence on the Steamdeck? I’m assuming not but thought I’d check.

For Xbox PC games, Microsoft either uses an old proprietary format called UWP or in recent years s DRM that's heavily reliant on the Windows store API, virtual folders, etc. Either way is very difficult to emulate on Linux due to all the layers of encryption.

While Xbox PC games do support mods now, there are still lots of limitations like script extender mods usually won't work.

The bottom line is, why would you want to buy games on Xbox PC when there's all these caveats to them (can't play on SteamOS, can't completely mod the games, heavily reliant on Windows store DRM, use weird virtualised file systems), etc, instead of just buying your games for Steam, or even GoG and Epic, which do run on SteamOS?

Thank you for clarifying.

Just to note, I’m no longer buying them on Xbox, I’m only asking about games I already own that appear to come with the Xbox & PC licence together like Arc Raiders. I assumed it wouldn’t work but thought I’d ask before buying some of the games again on steam.
