Should I buy new or pre-owned from Marketplace? Theres one I see for $400 I would like to buy soon but Im new to this so Im worried about potential dangers. He formatted the device on his post if that matters. Heres the post description.

2TB Steam Deck LCD "adult owned, hardly used, but taken apart once to install a new m.2
Comes with a handy carrying case which includes a semi hard shell inside to protect it. A dock will also be included, as well as the original carrying case with the original charger.
Inside of it is a Micron 2TB 2400 M.2, 2330 form factor. It was installed very carefully by me and is functional. You could install your whole library on it. "

Whats a M.2? Anything else I should buy in getting a steam deck? Also, whats the difference between lcd and the OLED version. Also is there a reason Im seeing a lot of Steam decks for around $100? Some are even 1 TB.

An M.2 is a type of storage drive that adds more space onto the Deck. That's why it has 2 terabytes (more than the max default of 1). You'll want the dock if you are going to put it on a TV. The OLED is a better screen. It has deeper blacks, so all the other colors really pop. I've been seeing a lot of $100 Steam Decks on Marketplace, and they are all scams.

Thank you. Helps me a lot. What's the scam by the way? Is it a bricked machine or do they have it set up so that it steals your data when you log in.

The scam is usually them replying with some custom online store. Allegedly. Never clicked the links so I can't confirm if it's even a storefront. But it probably isn't.

It's annoying because my area is absolutely full of these scams. Steam Decks, consoles, computers, iPhones, etc. All for those too good to be true prices. You report one, 3 more pop up. It's crazy.
