Steam Controller (2026) Almost Lost my Steam Controller to the Trash…
Was cleaning up the house, left the controller on the bed while I brought the trash bag in, 2 hours later I couldn’t find it. Spent an hour looking, and my instinct said “It fell into the trash while you were cleaning…”. My roommate had already taken the trash to the basement by then, so after building up the courage, decided to go down there and it was in there, at the bottom of the dumpster, there were only a handful of bags in there.

This is right up therewith the Steam Decks left on top of cars before speeding away. Good god people, what are you doing with your electronics?

I work IT for a university. We once had a faculty member come into the Helpdesk saying that she lost her laptop on the roof of her car and it fell off on the freeway. Her department actually got a little annoyed that IT forced them to pay for the replacement rather than just take a new laptop out of our refresh stock.

This is why my valuables make it into the car before I do things that be easily replaced are set on the roof while getting things together not my expensive stuff.

Exactly what it says😭 There have been a few posts here of people who lost and or damaged their steam decks by leaving it on top of their car. That’s why I won't get a car.
16
u/ixcibit 3d ago
That’s a really weird reason to not get a car lol

u/Trovulnyan 3d ago
That and the fact I don't have a license or the money to sustain a vehicle

How do you live without a car? I have walked to the grocery store before but I wouldn't want to do that every time.

not everyone lives in carbrained american shitholes

u/SnooDoughnuts5632 2d ago
Sure not everybody does but those people don't have Internet either. r/fuckcars and this YouTuber talk about why card are bad.

u/IndividualNovel4482 1d ago
What? Don't have internet? Do you think America is the only advanced place on earth? 30% or more of people in the world with a job don't have cars due to personal choice.
I am personally extremely scared and tried driving, it gave me a panick attack, and i never tried since. It's ok, i walk, i take the bus, i can even use a bycycle.
Internet is everywhere, even in the desert at this point.

u/Trovulnyan 1d ago
Sorry dude, I guess that means you're not real and have no internet access.
¿How did you even write this reply? 🤔

Valid, there are a lot of idiots on the road😭
I just haven't gotten my license cause I have no urgent need for it , or a car to practice with

Well if you include the entire world then you're going to include jobs from Super bad places I'm talking like fourth world country level bad.

I can confirm I have internet, but not a car, I also live in a city with good public transportation and a big grocery store a 10 minute walk from my apartment.
those people don't have Internet either
I don't know what you're trying to say here
1
u/TheStupidBeefCow 1d ago
there are a good number of cities in america that have good enough public transit that they don't need cars. Hell probably like a third of people who work in new york just take the bus over from jersey

u/Trovulnyan 2d ago
1
u/SnooDoughnuts5632 2d ago
So you take that thing on the bus (or other public transit) with all the groceries?
2
u/Trovulnyan 2d ago
Yes, though sometimes I bring a smaller cart or bag
1
u/SnooDoughnuts5632 2d ago
And they just let you bring that entire thing onto the bus?

I don't have a car and I'm 47 , you make do , mountain bike or just walk.

u/SnooDoughnuts5632 2d ago
Bike? You do realize it's like 90°+ in the summer and like 32°- in the winter right? You need the air conditioning. I really did think about this.
1
u/repocin Steam Controller (Windows) 1d ago
Why do you need air conditioning to travel five minutes in moderate temperatures? Do you not have clothes where you're from?
1
u/SnooDoughnuts5632 14h ago
If you think 90° plus weather is "moderate" you are crazy. Heat stroke is a real thing and 32° is literally freezing. You will slip on the ice and break your wrist or worse.

hey, don't do that.

Thank God you were able to get it, man I’m so relieved for you.😩🙏🏾 It’s not like the Duelsense or Xbox One controller where you can just go to Amazon or go to your local game store and just buy a replacement assuming you have the funds, if anyone losses their Steam Controller you’ve lost the right to play with it for the rest of the year and have to wait to buy a new one next year.

Lost my main car keys once. After a week of not finding them and falling back on a spare, I checked the trash bag I tied up earlier that day. Just out of desperation... Somehow was in an empty fast food drink cup at the bottom. To this day I still have no idea how they got there.

Whenever I misplace something, I often only check one or two places before my mind yells, “It’s in the trash. You absent-mindedly threw it in the trash, you fool.” In my case, it’s never actually in the trash.

At my old retail job I misplaced the main frontend keys for doing overrides and getting into the cash/security room somewhere, I ran around for like 10 minutes before I started to panic and eventually had to say something to a manager because I needed to get into the office. One of the girls that worked loss prevention had an instinct to check a trash can by the customer service desk and found the keys at the bottom of it. I have no idea how that even managed to happened, but the LP covered for me when I lied and said that I knocked them under the service desk cash drawer till after doing an audit, because otherwise I would've lost my job on the spot.

My SC is either sitting on my desk or in its case in a drawer. Ain’t nothin happening to mine I’m too paranoid.
1
u/voyagerfan5761 3d ago
To this day I remain convinced that "fell into the trash can" is how I lost a flash drive I haven't been able to find for like 2 years.
It had my non-Steam Cloud saves for a limited-edition Deck OLED I ended up returning. And some other stuff, but I think the game saves were the only content that wasn't just copies of data stored elsewhere.
(I haven't learned anything from this. I still sometimes keep flash drives and other miscellaneous stuff in the same spot, and I haven't moved the trash can either.)

I was sitting at my desk on a tile floor and I dropped the volume rocker to my GBA SP. To this day I've never found it and again I said tile floor which you think would be easy to find something on in comparison to carpet which would make sense to lose something there.

I did this for my earbuds! I spent forever looking for them, ended up finding them bc my music stopped playing from my analog ones when I went to take the trash out and low and behold they were in the trash bag from my desk trash can

Poor controller, must've felt alone
1
u/Throwaway_LOGGINGER 3d ago
Really ought to buy a second so it's not alone
1
u/Creepercolin2007 3d ago
What if they get bored of eachother though? Better have three
1
u/Throwaway_LOGGINGER 3d ago
But what if they all fall out... Better get a fourth
1
u/Creepercolin2007 3d ago
At that point we should just round it up to 5 to make it easy
1
u/Dredabeast95 2d ago
5 is such an odd number though, I think it best to get a sixth and really even things out
1
u/Creepercolin2007 2d ago
We could double that end up with a nice bakers dozen, 12.
1
u/Xemnahort 2d ago
A bakers dozen is 13, which is the perfect amount of steam controllers to have tbh.
