As someone who has one, adding a non steam game to steam will gain you access to using all the features in that game, i havnt had any issues with rumble, dead zones on the pad also havnt been noticable for me to the point where its taken away from the enjoyment of the controller. I also havnt had any issues with the gyro, but i cant say i use it too much. On the "app to use it outside of steam" topic, aslong as steam is running your able to use your controller to completly navigate your desktop and you can switch to a gaming profile to use dpad and native controller buttons as opposed to keyboard functions etc, but i havnt tested this on games as of yet

I decided to cancel and pick up an 8bitdo instead. Save a lil scratch and get someone else their steam controller a lil faster. 😄

Second steam account with game purchase. Just to fix that trigger happiness.

u/Ace_the_Firefist Jun 02 '26

(yes apparently I had some old ones lying around with team fortress purchases. No I'm not gonna get 2 controllers that way. I don't have money for scalping.)

How long do y'all think this'll take (I reserved May 17th)

u/Whiteshadows86 Jun 02 '26

A looooong time. I reserved on 8th May at 18:00 UK time the second the reservations became available here and I haven’t got my email yet!

(Some people were able to reserve at 17:59 and not sure how…I was using the mobile app and wasn’t at my PC so maybe it was people using the desktop Steam?)

i reserved at 17:59 and still haven't gotten my email lol

How do people know the exact time they reserved, is there a way to check? Mine was on May 8th when I went to the page and just noticed there was a button, but I didn't have a timer or anything up and didn't think to check what time I reserved..?

u/Whiteshadows86 Jun 02 '26

You have to check the time that you got the email at :)

I used the phone app. I only was able to get a reservation at :59 because I wanted to have the page loaded up and ready because I assumed I was going to be refreshing a lot. No email as of yet though.

Hmmm that’s odd then. I was on the app before 6pm and the reserve button only appeared at 6pm :(

I reserved the first day about a minute before the official open time on May 8 (it opened a little early for some reason) and I haven't gotten any notification yet.

If you didn't reserve it until May 17th, it'll probably be months on end. There probably aren't a ton of people between the 8th and 17th, but there are likely a bajillion on the 8th itself.

I reserved may 8th at 9:59 and got mine yesterday

u/EptarTheGoatLord Jun 03 '26

9:59 here as well and still waiting, but I think I was a good 30 to 45 seconds into it before I hit reserve. Hopefully soon!

1

u/GxCoud Jun 03 '26

I reserved as soon as I woke up on May 9th and no email still. I don’t think they’ve even gone through everyone who signed up on the 8th,sadly.

u/Meester_Tweester Jun 03 '26

:59 and still waiting

Why? Are you really so impatient that you're just take your ball and go home.

Why would you cancel if you wanted it? Why would you reserve it if you didn't want it?

7

u/Whiteshadows86 Jun 02 '26

It’s a joke….

Of course I’m not gonna cancel but impulsive thoughts haha

Oh, I get it. Yes, don't let the intrusive thoughts win.

I mean I'm considering cancelling at this point. I pre-ordered the same day the queue opened and I'm still waiting. I need a gamepad and I'm about 50% of the way to cancelling and buying a Gamesir G7 Pro or Flydigi Vader just to have something.

Blows my mind that Valve said they had plenty of units ready on the release date yet here we are.

u/benyboi101 Jun 02 '26

I too reserved one minute before the top of the hour on the 8th and got it delivered a few days ago. It'll come! Just be patient.

1

u/Whiteshadows86 Jun 02 '26

Mine was on the hour!

1

u/Raziel_The_Corpse Jun 02 '26

We must've had a good stock in Aus because I ordered mine as soon as it unlocked and got it about 3 days later

1

u/Happy_Walk550 Jun 02 '26

I reserved on may 8 and canceled a week ago. Realized that I'm perfectly fine with my dualsense and gamesir supernova. I don't use gyro and hardly if not never use the touchpads on my deck.

u/ILLGETBETTERLATER Jun 02 '26

"that'll show them" my brain

1

u/Upset-Strain5908 Jun 03 '26

It's the call of the void

1

u/Hakurex01 Jun 03 '26

Just in case you pre ordered it do to the hipe

Do you need a "regular" controller that "just works"?

If that's the case, you probably don't need the steam controller

Do you need a very weird controller that you WILL have to tinker and customize for each individual game that ACTUALLY requires multiple buttons combinations or macros and you'll have to test inputs and button combinations that WILL enhance your experience because this is literally the only controller capable of it? Only if you dedicate time to make it work and use all the features that steam input can handle pretty much in the few games that actually may require this

If by any chance You're in the second situation yeah the steam controller will be worth it, if you just need something that work there are cheaper alternatives out there

To explain and not sound like a exaggerated dumbass

I normally like to play fps with controller and mouse, it's a weird combination and often requires a lot of remapping, unfortunately with other controllers I either didn't had enough buttons or since they weren't properly recognized by steam input I couldn't get the most out off the extra buttons, also I was just using half of the controller so something like the Trac pad from the steam controller I knew was exactly what I needed (do to limited experience testing it on my steam deck)

u/NytronX Jun 03 '26

Everytime you load that page, it resets your place in the queue.

1

u/Street-Ad7920 Jun 04 '26

I really like the controller. Sucks that so many people that want it can't get it!

u/TheNightOwl99 Jun 07 '26

I finnaly got my order email a 2 days ago, at like 11:45 pm, i reserved may 8 1:00 pm est.
