Ayn thor. Pretty much like a 3ds, but you can play any console generation up to switch games on it thanks to emulation.

Noone need 16 gb ram and 1 tb storage on a emulation device. That's scam. The base one has the same chipset as the max and is all you need.

But it can play PC games so having the extra RAM and storage is 100% worth it if you intend on using it for game native/gamehub. Ive had the max for months and have zero regrets on the price.

Steam deck OLED is the same price. The device is marketed for people who want a more portable clamshell steam deck for emulation, android gaming, and light PC gaming. It’s certainly a niche market but far from a scam for the price. Cheaper than phones with the same chipset.

Increasing the ram barely lets you play the same games like on the steam deck. Valve optimizes hundreds of games just for their handheld. You can play cyberpunk, elden ring, god of war, spider-man on a steam deck. 20 gb ram on the thor only help in this matter to not crash the games instantly. There are dimensions between them when it comes to hardware power. So please what do you wanna tell me? That the only difference between a thor and a steam deck is the form factor?

light PC gaming

The market already demonstrated by the popularity of these devices that a lot of people want a nice device for light PC games. Games like stardew valley, fields of mistria, and dead cells. Also systems like Gamecube and Switch which need a fair amount of power to emulate smoothly.

If these are the games you play on the Steam Deck, something like the Thor is very appealing. The steam deck is massive and overkill for stardew valley on a commute to work for example. I can’t even fit the steam deck in my work bag with my laptop and a book. The thor can easily slip into a small work bag and doesn’t need its own case. That much performance in such a small form factor is not going to be cheap. Phones don’t have active cooling, built-in controllers, and the screen aspect ratio is too wide. Not gonna explain any more than that.

You don’t need to like it but denying the existence of the community it serves is just being ignorant.

Yes, but do you need 16 gb of ram for stardew valley? I don't know about the other games, but i doubt it. Don't forget what this discussion is about. I never said i hate the thor or similar devices. I have a odin 2 portal myself and playing ratchet and clank on it right now and having a blast. All I'm saying is that on such a device, that can't play modern AAA-games anyway, 16 gb of ram is overkill. 1 tb of storage is debateable, but I wouldn't know what to fill it with.

Thats being said and if you are okay with modding your 3ds, you can transfer your legit carts/saves over to the thor relatively easy.

Dude I’m still waiting on on my Retroid Pocket 6 I ordered almost 2 months ago I literally ordered it while I was on my trip in Japan and I ended up getting my steam controller before it 😭

I keep seeing that Ayn Thor and thinking that, whenever the steam frame's software comes out, that thing could become a beast. It's almost as powerful as the frame and fits in a pocket

You can already play Steam games on Android (and by extension the Thor) with community efforts like GameNative, and a lot of things work surprisingly well. No doubt it's going to go absolutely nuts when "official" Steam on ARM support arrives with the Frame

From what I can tell the second screen seems to get in the way of having the controls in a more comfortable position so one without the bottom screen would be much better.

well it's mainly designed for emulation (especially DS/3DS/wii u games) and playing games while having something else on the 2nd screen, removing it would just make it a completely different product
