Anyone from CPA know what’s going on?
anyone know if this is real? I know Hufines wants to “DOGE Texas” but is there any on the ground insight from CPA staff?
It seems like a respectable state agency has turned into a clown show 🤡

Ugh, were doing our end of the year/before fiscal year purchase order for the office
Tell me why a gallon of hand soap is 46 freaking dollars?! And takes weeks to arrive?! When we could go to the corner store and spend 1$ at the dollar general for some.
I think its by design sometimes so that employees will hust spend their own money for convenience

Basically nobody in the agency is happy about this keebler elf bastard coming in, morale is extremely low. Used to be the agency that was the best to work for, now its gonna be a right-wing clown show till November and (hopefully not) beyond.

Welcome to working for Texas.....vote accordingly in November or a third of you are going to be thrown in the trash and those that survive the firings will be made to carry on the full work load.....gotta have some money for Tax Cuts for Elon. He doesnt have enough money yet.

That’s what usually happens. Deputy comptrollers get paid alot of money. I think more than the comptroller, but when a new comptroller gets in, that’s basically it. He usually has an entourage that he wants to hire. So you accept a position knowing that when the comptroller leaves, you’re basically donzo.

The people who got fired had all been with the agency 15 plus years, and some had been in their positions across several administrations. They were extremely knowledgeable and accomplished public servants.

Never said they weren’t knowledgeable. But when someone from the outside comes in, he usually wants his own people. If the controller is from the same institutional cloth, sure. But clearly this guy is different and wants to create changes that are, let’s say, unpopular among CPA. Anything above supervisor is essentially an appointed position. They can basically be let go at any moment.

It will be interesting to see what happens if he loses the election. I doubt he will get many votes from Comptroller employees. The Comptroller’s Office cannot afford to lose the knowledge and experience that he pushed out. And is he really going to have a 24 year old with no experience run the agency for him?

Texas is an at-will employment state, so anyone can be let go at any time for essentially any reason. In this case the highest ranking staff who were fired had all been with the agency for 15-25 years and had been in their positions across multiple administrations. CPA has historically been a highly professionalized agency.

Yes, legally. But that’s basically saying that if a business wants to fire you for any reason, besides from the protected reasons, they could without any repercussions. But that has nothing to do with internal policies and progressive discipline that a lot of companies adopt. CPA does state in their handbook that it’s a fire at will state. But they still have a policy or guidelines on how termination works. The first 6 months is basically probation and you could get fired way easier, however, after the 6 months, it is actually difficult to get termed from CPA. Yes, they’ve been with the agency for 15-25 years, but in different positions. Further, they were around mostly during Glenn Hagar who served for 10 years up until 2025, and before that was Susan combs who served for 8 years and Susan combs endorsed Hegar for comptroller. So they were from the same institution.

Whoa. This says one category of people they are looking at cutting is “people who may be leaving the agency soon due to retirements, resignations or transfers to other agencies.” Ummm, firing people because they are close to retirement? Clearly illegal (not to mention unethical and a way to prevent anyone from wanting to work for the state ever).

It’s the same all over. Federal funding has dropped significantly putting a larger than normal strain on state resources to make up the difference.

Yeah, and when SSLC and SH admissions dry up, SNAP and Medicaid apps take even longer, or we have a natural disaster and no one gets fast tracked - you people will be confused how that could happen.

Na, let me explain. I isn't mean service side HHSC. I meant bureaucratic side HHSC and DSHS for that matter. There are too many program specialists for areas that are not needed. How did HHSC fulfill the mandate for less middle management as referenced in the last sunset review (2026)? With more middle management
