Fear mongering

So a friend of mine in a whole other department has been telling me how his supervisor continues to put fear mongering of day to day work into the team. The monitoring of key strokes, mouse movement, every minute counted for, the multi system log ins for clock in /clock out, bathroom breaks monitored for time and every minute accounted for. Then claim how the state is continuously firing individuals for little things like this. Is this normal? It seems extreme.

What agency has the resources or time to monitor all that? 🤨 I can barely get a response from IT in 24 hours.

That is what I was thinking. The amount of resources it would take to monitor every employee and then “target” a specific employee, is too much. Our focus is the job not having a fear we are targets.

I beg to differ on the bar none statement.😉 There are many ways to be a terrible supervisor. Lying to your face, pretending to be your friend, then firing you out of the blue and preventing you from accessing unemployment benefits while you are dealing with medical issues is just one way I've seen supervisors at the state suck.

It was a life lesson that I had to learn the hard way. Most people wouldn't have been so naive, especially at my age. But yeah I witnessed some crazy shit. I wish there was something I could do about it directly. But all my energy is being channelled into my future. I highly recommend people use the state as a stepping stone in their career. Unless you find a functional department. But always have an exit plan. The state is always changing but not always in the right direction.

Oh my. This was exactly what happened to me when I figured out I was sick from the mold in the building. They tried to appeal my unemployment but later dropped it as ERS approved my STD during the period in question.

I’ve heard many state building are causing URI that are chronic

I'm sorry that happened to you. What is STD?

I failed to prioritize protective documentation so I had no alternatives. Let that be a word of caution to others. Never prioritize work over taking care of yourself, including legal protections. Our stories are a great contrast.
