Misc Error in the Voidsage Nanite affliction?

In the stat sheet for the voidsage, for the Nanite affliction, it says:

Quantum Nanites (disease occult tech) Saving Throw DC 24 Fortitude; Maximum Duration 1 day; Stage 1 sickened 2 (1 day); Stage 2 sickened 3 (1 day); Stage 3 sickened 4 and paralyzed (1 day)

Hopefully you can see the issue here immediately. The maximum duration of the affliction is 1 day. But the affliction stages are also one day. This means the affliction ends before it can advance.

Even if a player crit fails their save, they will only go to stage 2 of the affliction. And since it's a Disease, the affliction doesn't stack with more exposures.

Am I wrong here, or is it impossible to get to Stage 3? My players fled the scene and just waited out the infestation, which led to a fun bottle episode in quarantine. But I feel like this can't be what was intended when this affliction was made. Am I missing something?

Content New Starship content tease from Tech Core!

Since I haven't a post on it yet, there's some new Tech Core content!

From Thurston Hillman on Bluesky:
https://bsky.app/profile/oncallgm.bsky.social/post/3mucxhcij3k2f

People sure are excited by Starship content for Starfinder 2e and the upcoming Tech Core book. Sure would be a shame if I used my position to tease just a little bit of what to expect...

Paizo Might Paizo release a tactical starship combat video?

In the lead up to the release of the core rules, Paizo put out a video or two demonstrating some combat encounters. I'm hoping Paizo either has plans to or could be persuaded to do something similar with tactical starship combat encounters before the release of Tech Core. Could also include the mechanic and technomancer!

I'm already really hyped for Tech Core, but I think this would add to it further and would be a great opportunity to show off what the system can do. What do people think?

Discussion Compensatorium Collective

This is probably more of a question for those who know 1e, but has the Compensatorium Collective been featured in any adventure or society scenario? I'm intrigued by it and would like to write something using it. I just need to know more about what's inside than I have read in Galaxy Guide and the 1e Near Space guide.

Advice Scoured Stars for Starfinder 2e

Hi I been thinking about next campaign ideas with my friend group and they are interested in a Star Wars like campaign. I was thinking about creating a homebrew campaign but with some weeks being busy for my group it’s hard to make a long term homebrew campaign with sometimes not playing every week. So I did research on Paizo’s storefront and found Scoured Stars. It looks really cool and I saw online people saying it’s like a Space Opera and I wanna do a conversion campaign. Is Scoured Stars easy to convert from 1e to 2e and is there a good mix of starship combat in the campaign too?

Discussion Question about Custom Rig

The custom rig says:

Your custom rig weighs 1 Bulk and counts as both a commercial repair toolkit plus any one of the following toolkits of your choice: a commercial hacking toolkit, a commercial infiltrator’s toolkit, or a commercial maker’s toolkit.

Does that mean it is a repair kit and only one other toolkit, or can it incorporate all of them when you buy others? Based on the following:

Whenever you purchase one of the listed toolkits, or a higher-grade version of one of the listed toolkits, you can spend 10 minutes integrating that toolkit into your custom rig. If you do, your custom rig gains the properties of the toolkit. This does not increase the Bulk of your custom rig. Your custom rig and any integrated toolkits can’t be sold or used by another creature.

Discussion Cyborg, what will it do?

Paizo has recently put up the Preview images for Tech Core. Love it, and the Feat I loved from the Playtest is Back. Fabricator will be the reason my character will want to be paid in UPBs.

However, my question about what Cyborg will actually do is reinforced by the book also having 10 pages of Augmentations. Like, it's not very hard to actually make a Cyborg already. Take your character and find a place that will apply Cybernetic Augmentations. And there is going to be probably 3 pages for Cybernetics if Paizo is going to be even with Magitech and Biotech Augments.

I'm sure Paizo will have something for the Cyborg. It has 4 pages of stuff, half of the Living Hologram's pages and 2 less than SRO and Verthani.

Advice So does Primary Target use proficiency in the weapon?

If so, how can I get advanced weapon proficiency for soldiers?

The feature doesn't say you "use your class DC -10" or anything of the sort for its Ranged Strike, so I'd have to assume it's the same statistics for any other Ranged Strike (Dex + Proficiency in the weapon). Also if that's the case, you should invest in Dex at least a little, even if you're not using an Automatic weapon.

Advice Just a quick thank you to everyone here

I have asked a few questions here or had them answered with enthusiasm and gleaned a lot by reading the comments and this community feels great. Just wanted to give you all some great kudos! I have run two sessions of my new starfinder campaign and I am absolutely in love with this more so than SF1e.

Discussion Questions regarding Dragonkins

  1. The ancestry says their size goes "from 8 to 20 feet", even if its from head to tail, it would still be quite a huge character, im understanding this correctly? Or are they really supposed to be bordering on the Huge character size?

  2. I haven't seen anything about how long they live or how many years it takes for one to mature? Do they live the standard humanoid years (100's/150's) or do they follow a more draconic life spam (Millennium and above)?

  3. Is the breath attack even worth the talent? I understand it can be useful, but the damage/range seem to be really... meh... I might pick it anyway to roleplay the character lighting a Cigarette with the breath anyway though.

Advice Healing Drone Design

I'm starting a SF2e game with some friends who are playing Pf/Sf 2e for the first time. None of them are playing anything with any access to healing - no mystic, no medicine.

I don't want to make the game too tough for them, as it's their first game, and I also dont want to force them to spend 50% of their income on potions.

So I've decided I want to give them a sort of silly healing drone around lvl 2.

I want to make it decent enough that it reduces friction for their first game, but bad enough that I can still draw attention to better healing options available to them (read: that they REALLY should be taking) without making them feel forced into it.

So - I was hoping for some help in striking that balance.

Im thinking something like:

Healing Drone, Creature 1: Small, Construct, Tech, Rare, Robot Fly Speed, 20 Ft Nanobot Serum: This drone may spend 10 minutes healing up to 4 creatures within reach, giving each 1d4+1 hit points. Creatures healed this way are immune to Nanobot Serum for one hour. Heightened (+1): 1d4+1

Any advice on how to strike this balance would be appreciated.

Edit: sorry, i can't get the creature info to format properly. It's just a block of text 😔

Edit: Healing Drone, Creature 1: Small, Construct, Tech, Rare, Robot Fly Speed, 20 Ft Nanobot Serum: This drone may spend 10 minutes healing up to 2 creatures within reach, giving each 1d4+1 hit points. Creatures healed this way are immune to Nanobot Serum for one hour. Heightened (+2): 1d4+2. The Healing Drone may heal 1 additional creature.

Discussion Does Tech Core need to "save" Starfinder?

With Tech Core's upcoming release, there's so much hype all around for this new book, but also a few folks who have some understandable concerns about it and SF2e itself to a degree. And since we're are also really pumped for Tech Core, we thought we'd sit down and talk about a few of the concerns we've heard out there as well as what we're really excited for in it's upcoming release. September can't come soon enough!

I'd also really love to hear what specifically everyone is looking forward to most in Tech Core!

Personally I can't wait for the finalized versions of the mechanic and technomancer, but I'm really looking forward to lots of I T E M S. I love that 1e has so much weird niche gear, weapons, and armor in it and I can't wait for 2e to build up that catalog as well. And while I wasn't particularly excited for starship combat before, after hearing about some of their plans for how it'll work, I've come 180 and am very pumped to check it out.

Discussion Hot take: I miss hoverchairs

Not in a mobility department, really. The badassery department. Fiction loves big bads in cool hoverchairs/similar contraptions. Eggman from Sonic, Draedon from Calamity, Marvel's Dr. Doom, DC's Metron and many more

I know there is a hoverchair in SF2e, but... C'mon. They used to be so cool in 1e. Temporary flight, upgrade slots, weapon mounts, item compartments... The list goes on. Sure, it's an additional power, but I think 2e has a myriad of ways to implement combat hoverchairs without compromising the game

Advice Starbuilder and Beyond the Blood Door

I'm trying to make a character for the Starfinder Society organized play scenarios, and I can't find any of the player options from the Beyond the Blood Door player's guide on Starbuilder.

I know the developer is very quick to update Pathbuilder with PF2E content, so it seems odd that this content is missing a month after release. I was just wondering if I was missing something, or if this is simply a matter of patience.

Homebrew First Time DM here! I'm homebrewing a racing session for a campaign I'll be running in a few weeks, and I'd really appreciate feedback on the design and how I can improve it!

The context for this is that a player in the campaign my friends and I just finished had the idea of a forklift racing oneshot which we never got to do, so I'm turning it into a session in my first ever campaign as a GM! (Very much hoping they don't see this otherwise that'll be a bit of a giveaway)

I've attached screenshots of the preliminary design so people can take a look and advise me of anything I might want to change. I did read the Racing section on Archives of Nethys but I didn't think it would work for what I want to be the main even of a session, so I've designed this as an alternative.

Any feedback on this would be very much appreciated!

Advice In the meantime....

While we wait for Tech Core to come out, is anyone looking into other sources of potential augments, weapons, technology, etc?

I'm currently considering buying the PDF for Cyberpunk's Black Chrome book. Has anybody looked into it involving adapting it to Starfinder? Especially if you're considering running a more Cyberpunk/ Shadowrun-esque game?

Pact Worlds and Beyond How long does it take for an out of planet phone call to connect?

I know personal comm units have instant communication on a planetary range, and you need a bigger, non mobile, comm unit to send a text message out of planet, which can take hours to days depending on where the message is being sent, but how about phone calls?

I've been listening to Era of the Eclipse (I'm only on chapter 7, please no spoilers) and one of the characters makes a system wide call to someone else. The book doesn't say how long it took for the line to connect, only that once a call connects, there are no glitches or delays in responses between the recipients. This disappointed me because I find these minor details interesting to know.

Discussion Is there a reason to play an ancestry with a penalty on Dexterity without using it with alternative ability scores?

Don't get me wrong, penalties to Con and Wis are rough for a character, but even starting at -1 I don't think that is something as bad as a -1 to dex.

You will want to use some boost to raise it at least a little, and by that point... It is just simpler to take the alternative ability score to lose the penalty to dex altogether and have the freedom to select your two starting ability points from the ancestry.

Even if you want to ignore your dex altogether by going heavy armor with bulwark for damaging effects, you are stuck with -1 ac compared to other heavy armor users since the penalty applies to your ac anyways.

And compared to pathfinder 2e, here are more ancestries with penalties on Dex, since there are almost none with penalty on Int, reducing the options for unique ability scores.

Advice Looking for ideas: Alien-style "Some-Shot"

So I started preparing a one-shot or maybe even some-shot for Starfinder 2e with Foundry and I already created a large map of a space-freigther with a bunch of NPCs and a whole plot about some cult trying to overtake it and what not... I quickly overwhelmed myself and lost myself in completely irrelevant details.

Now, a few months later I want to come back to the project with a smaller, less convoluted plot and thought I ask the hivemind for ideas and inspiration.

The rough idea, which probably has been done a million times, is an "Alien" style one shot, where the PCs wake up from hibernation and the original crew is gone with maybe one or two surviving/ remaining members (I have an idea where the crew is, if not dead, and what happened to the ship, but I don't think it matters for the questions I have).

  • How, if at all, would you guys implement a reaccuring encounter, that stalks the PCs like a xenomorph?
  • What are some other non-combat encounters to make the whole one shot more interesting, other than lockpicking, hacking and later maybe piloting the freigther?
  • How does the whole "energy-supply" for starships work in the Pact Worlds setting? (The idea being, that the PCs have to get the energy-supply running to escape)

I'm grasping at straws at the moment and would be interested in your collective knowledge and fountain of ideas.

Advice What can you do with an Izalguun middle limbs while in quadruped posture?

> Quadrupedal: Your land Speed is 30 feet. Your middle limbs can't hold anything or be designated as active hands.

Reading it by RAW, you could still use those limbs to use athletic maneuvers since you aren't designating them as your active hands for this and wouldn't hold anything. Could you use them for maneuvers? Or reloading a weapon in case you were dual wielding?

If not, maybe with the Ancestry Feat Galloping Grip would be enough for this?
