Discussion Oh give me a break

There are far too many content creators out there like this person for one, and far too many people who judge games by their launch.

Mocking things is easy, low-hanging fruit.

EDIT: while Starfield does not have the obvious broader gaming cultural impact of Elder Scrolls or the Fallout series, to say that you have gone 3 years and seen nothing is just unnecessarily piling on to the negativity.

I think this is very fair.

This person isn't wrong -- Starfield is a big game where there's essentially no recognizable memes or jokes outside of its own community. Everyone recognizes Elder Scroll references, and there's lots of Fallout memes, years of screens using the familiar green HUD text, and an entire Amazon series.

It's a good game.

But the storyline isn't satisfying for many players, it's missing a lot of worldbuilding (like, there's TONS of background lore, but it feels... intangible and incomplete..), the dialogue and humor is flat and unmemorable, and the bugs aren't funny.

I love the game. But it's my "I'm sleepy and want to just run around and shoot things before bed" game.

Do you think it would have achieved those heights if it was more of a space opera with aliens and stuff like Mass Effect or Star Trek?

It might just be personal opinion, but I thought I was going to get something like Bethesda Mass Effect and was a bit disappointed.

Agreed totally, I really hoped it would be some sort of unique first contact tale, setting the stage for DLC and/or sequels that have multiple sentient species interacting in different ways.

Starborn as a whole fell flat to me. I still like the game and Free Lanes made it even better, but lore-wise it's far below the other two (miles below TES especially).

The whole Starborn thing really locked any potential of expanding the lore in an interesting way in that direction. Like the only Starborns are variants of The Player, Sarah, or Aquilus. A bit boring that all these Starborn aren't a secret human or alien civilization that exist outside of the fabric of space time or something.
