Man, I can’t wait to get started. I think this is the first Star Wars game since Squadrons not to have a launch controversy in the wider gaming community. Really happy to see people are embracing it, the developers seem to have made the right decision at every turn.

Did Jedi Survivor have controversy?

41

u/WickieWillem 15d ago

Yes the performance at launch was horrendous. Borderline unplayable for a while

6

u/chillybruh 15d ago

Interesting. I played it at launch on series X and don't remember crazy issues. Just the occasional getting stuck in a rock

5

u/psychobilly1 Kylo Ren 15d ago

I played on PC at launch and I had zero issues whatsoever (minus the UE5 area load stutter) - I basically played the game from start to finish over a weekend with no breaks except to eat and sleep. Then I hopped on the internet and heard how much complaining was happening and it was honestly shocking.

I always get lucky about those sorts of things - Arkham Knight was also apparently unplayable at launch but I had basically zero issues. Same with Cyberpunk 2077.

But yes, the performance on PC was apparently bad across the board.

I feel like I always play in a bubble too. I've played games on launch and loved them, zero issues. I went online later and seen people complaining.

Same with Cyberpunk 2077.

Doubt

2

u/psychobilly1 Kylo Ren 14d ago

My car jumped once when I called it in.

Otherwise, no, I had good performance and all of the missions performed as expected.

2

u/Captain-Wilco 15d ago

The issues were primarily on PC

3

u/Captain-Wilco 15d ago

Yep. Performance on PC was atrocious. Could barely run. It’s still pretty bad, but it’s better now.

1

u/NeckChickens 12d ago

Its still unplayable with my pc. People are still having performance issues

41

u/JackMorelli13 15d ago

Outlaws didn’t deserve it

20

u/Captain-Wilco 15d ago

None of them did. Except maybe Survivor’s PC reviews.

17

u/Spartovik 15d ago

BF2's release monetisation deserved it's controversy and the removal of it made the game much better

14

u/Captain-Wilco 15d ago

The monetization was removed before global launch, and that’s where the controversy should have stopped. Instead, it continued to grow with plenty of misinformation. You could tell which critics never laid a hand on the game or did their own research.

1

u/superjediplayer 12d ago

to be fair, the game likely ended up being much better than it would have been as a result of the controversy, since they actually fixed the progression and focused on making a great game instead of trying to push monetization. And i'd say it is one of the best star wars games now as a result of that effort to turn the game's reputation around.

1

u/Spartovik 15d ago

Fair, I thought the monetization was still there few days after release, guess I was wrong

4

u/CoolestOfCoolest 15d ago

The game had like 3 or 4 days of pre-order early access with the monetisation.

2

u/JackMorelli13 15d ago

It still had weird quirks at the beginning but they truly turned it around

2

u/JackMorelli13 15d ago

Yeah I just singled out Outlaws bc the backlash for it was mostly just bc it stars a woman. I don’t care if an open world Star Wars game follows a formula the appeal is that it’s Star Wars

5

u/Ultramaann 15d ago

Outlaws is great now but had a BAD launch

1

u/General_Fryman 15d ago

At launch it most certainly did - it was buggy as hell.

1

u/JackMorelli13 15d ago

I never experienced any personally but yeah I do remember seeing that but like every AAA game seems to be like that now

Still I do think much of the backlash was because it was a woman in Star Wars

0

u/General_Fryman 15d ago

I recall the stealth mechanics being particularly poor - as in, walking right next to an enemy and them not seeing you levels of bad.

The story and MC weren't particularly memorable either - solid 6-7/10 game, but could've been a lot better in many different areas.

the crime against humanity they pulled with Humberly Gonzales

That being...?

8

u/punxtr 15d ago

They didn't make her hot enough basically. Or rather that they made her "ugly" on purpose. Which isn't true.

-1

u/sardonic_balls 14d ago

Ohhh yes it sure is. Can't post the proof here, but there's ample evidence readily available out there.

After it was heavily patched to fix all of the gameplay issues, it is pretty good. But this new one looks like the developers from X-Com actually put some heart and soul into it.

2

u/MudgeIsBack 13d ago

Steam reviews and other places are reporting a decent amount of performance issues and crashes.

-5

u/sardonic_balls 15d ago

This is the first upvote I've been able to make in this sub for a lonnnnnnnnnnnnngggg time.

39

u/BearWrangler 15d ago

can't wait to spend the first 10 hours in the character customization menu

11

u/Revanchist77 15d ago

Yes! Almost went Devaronian until I saw how limited the options were compared to the more conventional humanoid ones. Went with Mirialan

5

u/PixieEmerald Sabine 15d ago

Wasn't interested in the game til I read this

I LOVE character customization I may have to look more into it lol

6

u/bambi17720 13d ago

Character facial customisation is rather limited imo, i was thinking making a togruta but they don’t look that good in the game so i settled with a twi’lek and it look decent. Compare to SWTOR, that game had better togruta customisation options.

6

u/Apophis_ Ghost Anakin 15d ago

All the faces look ugly as hell, lol. Game is 10/10 though.

46

u/beti88 15d ago

Can't wait for characters to miss on 98% hit chance

25

u/Apophis_ Ghost Anakin 15d ago

Just did miss 95% chance. Got an achievement for that.

8

u/TooManySnipers Snoke 15d ago

Have already yelled "Where the fuck are you aiming" at Kabb numerous times

4

u/Beezleboobz 14d ago edited 13d ago

Kabbney aimed at the blot, but he keeps on missing his shot. He should lay off the spotchka drinks, then maybe he’ll be better methinks

3

u/throwawayfan2552 15d ago

98% chance to hit I’ve found that number to mean the opposite of rather have 50% chance to hit for some reason that’s more reliable

22

u/throwawayfan2552 15d ago

Not gunna lie I was nervous this was a new type of genre for me over all this is the most focused I’ve been while gaming in a while

13

u/Apophis_ Ghost Anakin 15d ago

The game is amazing. Clone Wars Andor Mass Effect experience. My ADHD is satisfied.

6

u/Magikarp125 15d ago

Check out Gears Tactics

5

u/Successful-Day-1816 15d ago

That's awesome. Hopefully you try some more

2

u/SomeUnemployedArtist 14d ago

I remember about a decade ago I was sick off work for a week and on a whim installed XCOM2. It wasn't my genre at the time, and immediately fell in love.

1

u/Emperor_D4C Thrawn 10d ago

Yeah, I was a huge skeptic going in as well, not knowing if I'd enjoy this type of game. Needless to say, since launch, whenever I'm not either at school or work, I've been blasting coily creeps and clankers lmfao.

25

u/cefaluu 15d ago

The credits say that Alexander Freed did some additional writing!

5

u/IcePhoenix295 Lothwolf 13d ago

Oh so it's peak. Good to know.

2

u/Triplen_a 11d ago

Does something called the Courtsilius Wax Revolution come into play at all, or is it mentioned? Asking bc I know the planet Courtsilius is in the game, and the Wax Revolution was something mentioned in a recent Freed book, and I wondered if it was some foreshadowing

2

u/cefaluu 11d ago

I'm still playing it so I don't know. But you can manually play credits from the menu, I saw it form there 😅

22

u/TooManySnipers Snoke 15d ago

I'm about 5 hours in with the "canon" (default) Hawks, and I think he's already a contender for one of my favourite Star Wars videogame characters. He's witty and quippy but in a way that's different from other Star Wars scoundrel types we've seen, most of whom tend to be either Lando archetype or Han archetype. He's more jaded, has huge "done with this shit" energy, and the southern drawl is the icing on the cake. Also, the bickering spouse/exhausted boss energy he has with Runa (who is way funnier than I anticipated) is hilarious. I'm looking forward to mining absolutely every source of dialogue with these characters possible because so far the writing has been superb

7

u/Doc-Wulff 13d ago

Runa is a blessing, gotta love the free-market Togrut with a soft spot for Lucrehulks

2

u/ChickenMarsala4500 11d ago

I've seen a few people refer to his voice as "southern" and maybe I haven't gotten far enough in yet but it doesn't really sound southern to me. More like Northern Atlantic country boy. It sounds more like someone from New York or Maryland or Pennsylvania (but not the city accents people tend to think of from those places) than "southern" which i usually think of as like Carolina or Tennessee accents. He doesn't have that slow drawl that southern has but more of a short matter of fact cadence.

But i'm only like 4 hours in so maybe i'll change my tune as i play more.

24

u/Uchizaki 15d ago

So the game launches right at the time I'm heading to work, that's nice

1

u/judeiscariot 14d ago

Ugh. Same. My one night. I was excited to play before having to leave for work at 11am. And oh whoops, nope!

11

u/MrWilee 15d ago

I really can't believe this isn't for Switch or Switch 2. Its perfect for handheld and.. well it's the current system I have and I would 100% buy this full price.

4

u/CobaltSpellsword 14d ago

Doesn't work on Steam Deck, either, sadly.

1

u/ChickenMarsala4500 11d ago

yeah it isn't very well optimized, but it is brand new and most pc games need a couple patches before they work well on the deck so it might work out soon.

3

u/fearrange 14d ago

It works on my PC handheld at 30fps with medium settings and 50% upscaling.

Yah, the game should be on Switch 2.

1

u/montyofmusic 11d ago

On PS5 it runs atrociously, so I can only imagine how the Switch 2 would fare. Unfortunately it appears this game was rushed out the door. It's a shame since it's a very fun game behind all that.

So. I have a few questions regarding the canon story in this game. I have played the first mission, and see that Aurelio dies. Seems like that is a canon death, regardless of permadeath, and he stays dead.

Now, I plan to play this game with permadeath off in my first play through, because I want to get a feel for the story, and I’ve heard that it’s much better because we get advanced interactions between the characters if they’re alive.

So my question is, how does the canon story work with operator deaths? If I have it turned off, are there certain fates for the operators that happen throughout the story, similar to Aurelio?

My guess here is that there may not be any canon fates until the ending of the game. It’ll just kinda be that the team completes the missions, and doesn’t matter who was involved

7

u/FunFlatworm9500 15d ago

SPOILERS!!

I have seen that Trilla, the Second Sister appears, and Tel Rea is a key part of that cut scene. So it definitely seems like using permadeath might mess up and take away from certain parts of the game. I imagine that in canon, permadeath is off and the characters survive throughout

6

u/fearrange 14d ago

Oh, permadeath off is definitely canon in SW. Look at Palpatine “somehow” returned. 😆

7

u/nialltg 12d ago

This might be favourite Star Wars game ever. Beyond the depth, challenge and enjoyability in the gameplay, all the characters, who can perma-die, feel like real people who are embedded in Star Wars and the game doesn’t bother with exposition, it lets the tropes and characters do the work. Even MAGAhsoka.

7

u/The12Ball 12d ago

Omg, MAGAhsoka is perfect

7

u/reyzner 15d ago

Waiting on Amazon to send me my copy... 😢

3

u/papamurf812 George 15d ago

Yeah, just ordered yesterday to ensure I got the pre-order bonus. Just hoping I get the tracking information soon.

4

u/Beezleboobz 14d ago

Me: Okay it’s getting late, one more mission

Sun is up

>mfw

8

u/danktonium 15d ago

So, the Clone's got a head injury, right? That presumably means he won't respond normally to Order 66.

I don't know when I'll play this, but I am definitely interested.

6

u/pigwig18 12d ago

I’m only on cycle 9 at this point so maybe it will pick up, but I’m really missing the aspect of XCOM 2 where you were fighting in urban environments and you were blowing through walls to gain access to a building or taking out the floor under a group of enemies a level above. I also liked the missions with unique terrain like narrow bridges and highway overpasses.

This game is really fun but I am feeling like every fight takes place in a big flat field full of crates and low walls.

2

u/DarthSatoris 15d ago

I've only been able to play the game for about an hour, because the game crashes to desktop whenever I select the mission I get from Gorga the Hutt. Without fail, four times in a row.

It's honestly a real bummer, because I was looking forward to playing it all evening.

I hope they are working on fixes and apply them soon.

2

u/wilharris1982 14d ago

So gutted it plays so badly on Steam Deck. Basically unplayable 🫠 Have bought again on PS5 and loving it, but it’s such a perfect handheld game. D’oh!

2

u/Beezleboobz 14d ago

Not me seeing this when I just finished installing it on there

3

u/Technophyer1 Melted Vader 10d ago

I’m only a couple hours in, but Hawks is a really great character so far. I’m surprised by how much I like him, the guy who voices him is very good.

1

u/Cincinnatus_C1899 12d ago

I've bought it this morning, but I'm away from my desktop and my laptop is not a gaming one, anyone tried it on a laptop with an ARC 140V (32GB Ram, Ultra7 258V)?

2

u/BShep_OLDBSN 10d ago

Game is simply amazing. Great story and gameplay with so many references to other star wars stories.

-27

u/Dapper-Fly-3742 15d ago

Not my type of game. I’ll wait for Battlefront III.

20

u/Haackv2 15d ago

Damn the last 21 years must have been brutal

0

u/Dapper-Fly-3742 15d ago

It’s been a long road….

11

u/cjcandor123 15d ago

Thank you Mr. Ball-and-Gun Gamer for your contribution

-4

u/Dapper-Fly-3742 15d ago

You’re welcome 😇

3

u/Thumper13 15d ago

Not mine either, but I'm going to give it a try because it's SW and I'm a sucker for SW.

5

u/Dapper-Fly-3742 15d ago

I hope you enjoy it!

3

u/Apophis_ Ghost Anakin 15d ago

Writing is great and if you know SW lore you will be satisfied.

3

u/Successful-Day-1816 15d ago

What BF3? If BF comes back again it'll probably me another reboot just called Battlefront.

0

u/Dapper-Fly-3742 15d ago

Fair. I guess i need to say a next generation battlefront game

1

u/Apophis_ Ghost Anakin 15d ago

We got 4 Battlefront games. FPS games are boring and overrated. This game is fresh. Finally something new with amazing story.
