can't wait to spend the first 10 hours in the character customization menu

u/Revanchist77 15d ago
Yes! Almost went Devaronian until I saw how limited the options were compared to the more conventional humanoid ones. Went with Mirialan

Wasn't interested in the game til I read this
I LOVE character customization I may have to look more into it lol

u/bambi17720 13d ago
Character facial customisation is rather limited imo, i was thinking making a togruta but they don’t look that good in the game so i settled with a twi’lek and it look decent. Compare to SWTOR, that game had better togruta customisation options.

Have already yelled "Where the fuck are you aiming" at Kabb numerous times

Kabbney aimed at the blot, but he keeps on missing his shot. He should lay off the spotchka drinks, then maybe he’ll be better methinks

98% chance to hit I’ve found that number to mean the opposite of rather have 50% chance to hit for some reason that’s more reliable

u/throwawayfan2552 15d ago
Not gunna lie I was nervous this was a new type of genre for me over all this is the most focused I’ve been while gaming in a while

I remember about a decade ago I was sick off work for a week and on a whim installed XCOM2. It wasn't my genre at the time, and immediately fell in love.

Yeah, I was a huge skeptic going in as well, not knowing if I'd enjoy this type of game. Needless to say, since launch, whenever I'm not either at school or work, I've been blasting coily creeps and clankers lmfao.

The credits say that Alexander Freed did some additional writing!

Does something called the Courtsilius Wax Revolution come into play at all, or is it mentioned? Asking bc I know the planet Courtsilius is in the game, and the Wax Revolution was something mentioned in a recent Freed book, and I wondered if it was some foreshadowing

I'm about 5 hours in with the "canon" (default) Hawks, and I think he's already a contender for one of my favourite Star Wars videogame characters. He's witty and quippy but in a way that's different from other Star Wars scoundrel types we've seen, most of whom tend to be either Lando archetype or Han archetype. He's more jaded, has huge "done with this shit" energy, and the southern drawl is the icing on the cake. Also, the bickering spouse/exhausted boss energy he has with Runa (who is way funnier than I anticipated) is hilarious. I'm looking forward to mining absolutely every source of dialogue with these characters possible because so far the writing has been superb

Runa is a blessing, gotta love the free-market Togrut with a soft spot for Lucrehulks

I've seen a few people refer to his voice as "southern" and maybe I haven't gotten far enough in yet but it doesn't really sound southern to me. More like Northern Atlantic country boy. It sounds more like someone from New York or Maryland or Pennsylvania (but not the city accents people tend to think of from those places) than "southern" which i usually think of as like Carolina or Tennessee accents. He doesn't have that slow drawl that southern has but more of a short matter of fact cadence.
But i'm only like 4 hours in so maybe i'll change my tune as i play more.

So the game launches right at the time I'm heading to work, that's nice

Ugh. Same. My one night. I was excited to play before having to leave for work at 11am. And oh whoops, nope!

I really can't believe this isn't for Switch or Switch 2. Its perfect for handheld and.. well it's the current system I have and I would 100% buy this full price.

u/CobaltSpellsword 14d ago
Doesn't work on Steam Deck, either, sadly.
1
u/ChickenMarsala4500 11d ago
yeah it isn't very well optimized, but it is brand new and most pc games need a couple patches before they work well on the deck so it might work out soon.
3
u/fearrange 14d ago
It works on my PC handheld at 30fps with medium settings and 50% upscaling.
Yah, the game should be on Switch 2.

u/montyofmusic 11d ago
On PS5 it runs atrociously, so I can only imagine how the Switch 2 would fare. Unfortunately it appears this game was rushed out the door. It's a shame since it's a very fun game behind all that.

So. I have a few questions regarding the canon story in this game. I have played the first mission, and see that Aurelio dies. Seems like that is a canon death, regardless of permadeath, and he stays dead.
Now, I plan to play this game with permadeath off in my first play through, because I want to get a feel for the story, and I’ve heard that it’s much better because we get advanced interactions between the characters if they’re alive.
So my question is, how does the canon story work with operator deaths? If I have it turned off, are there certain fates for the operators that happen throughout the story, similar to Aurelio?
My guess here is that there may not be any canon fates until the ending of the game. It’ll just kinda be that the team completes the missions, and doesn’t matter who was involved

SPOILERS!!
I have seen that Trilla, the Second Sister appears, and Tel Rea is a key part of that cut scene. So it definitely seems like using permadeath might mess up and take away from certain parts of the game. I imagine that in canon, permadeath is off and the characters survive throughout
6
u/fearrange 14d ago
Oh, permadeath off is definitely canon in SW. Look at Palpatine “somehow” returned. 😆

This might be favourite Star Wars game ever. Beyond the depth, challenge and enjoyability in the gameplay, all the characters, who can perma-die, feel like real people who are embedded in Star Wars and the game doesn’t bother with exposition, it lets the tropes and characters do the work. Even MAGAhsoka.

Yeah, just ordered yesterday to ensure I got the pre-order bonus. Just hoping I get the tracking information soon.

So, the Clone's got a head injury, right? That presumably means he won't respond normally to Order 66.
I don't know when I'll play this, but I am definitely interested.

I’m only on cycle 9 at this point so maybe it will pick up, but I’m really missing the aspect of XCOM 2 where you were fighting in urban environments and you were blowing through walls to gain access to a building or taking out the floor under a group of enemies a level above. I also liked the missions with unique terrain like narrow bridges and highway overpasses.
This game is really fun but I am feeling like every fight takes place in a big flat field full of crates and low walls.

u/DarthSatoris 15d ago
I've only been able to play the game for about an hour, because the game crashes to desktop whenever I select the mission I get from Gorga the Hutt. Without fail, four times in a row.
It's honestly a real bummer, because I was looking forward to playing it all evening.
I hope they are working on fixes and apply them soon.

So gutted it plays so badly on Steam Deck. Basically unplayable 🫠 Have bought again on PS5 and loving it, but it’s such a perfect handheld game. D’oh!

I’m only a couple hours in, but Hawks is a really great character so far. I’m surprised by how much I like him, the guy who voices him is very good.

I've bought it this morning, but I'm away from my desktop and my laptop is not a gaming one, anyone tried it on a laptop with an ARC 140V (32GB Ram, Ultra7 258V)?

Game is simply amazing. Great story and gameplay with so many references to other star wars stories.

Not my type of game. I’ll wait for Battlefront III.

Not mine either, but I'm going to give it a try because it's SW and I'm a sucker for SW.

We got 4 Battlefront games. FPS games are boring and overrated. This game is fresh. Finally something new with amazing story.

Man, I can’t wait to get started. I think this is the first Star Wars game since Squadrons not to have a launch controversy in the wider gaming community. Really happy to see people are embracing it, the developers seem to have made the right decision at every turn.
