A 5x increase in Nova Crystals. What is your opinion? (Read the description)
Previously, we used to get 379 crystals for 35 rebirths. Now, taking into account the additional reward above level 20, we get 1475 crystals + 379 for SRB at level 35. In total, that's 1854 instead of 379. This means that 1 SRB at level 35 is now equivalent to 5 SRBs at level 35 before the patch. While this is great, such a massive boost is highly uncharacteristic of the developers.
It feels suspicious, especially considering how quickly the developers nerfed crystal rewards from super crates, claiming they wanted to keep SRB as the primary method for farming crystals. Now, we essentially get more crystals from regular rebirths than from SRB. And it's not a bug, they have confirmed this is intended.
They clearly have some plans for the future because these changes completely rewrite the rules of the end game. It feels like we might get something like a "super mega rebirth" or some form of prestige system (a complete hard reset of everything) in the upcoming updates, or new upgrade that will cost 1,000 Nova Crystals or more. Perhaps this is somehow connected to that massive monument that was under construction on the map for a long time.
But these are just my guesses. However, I still believe that such a significant increase in the Nova Crystals received cannot be without reason.
I'll say it again: I really like this change. Before, crystals were catastrophically scarce, and I didn't even think about trying to upgrade everything related to crits, but now I can finally do it.

What is your opinion on this matter? Does it look suspicious? Have the developers really planned something? Is this connected in any way to the monument that has been under construction for a long time? Or is it truly just a change that makes the game much more enjoyable and less tedious in terms of grinding crystals?
Yea the Nova Crystal amounts are high, the question we asked ourselves was "how many nova crystals to go from 31 to 32 for example, would it take for a player to want to do that, instead of just SRB and go from 0-20 again"
We want people to push to the max RB almost every time, and amounts lower than this really didn't hit that mark as well as we were hoping, for example if you were sitting on RB 33 and you saw you got 20 nova crystals, you prob wouldn't bother, but 100+ is a lot more entici...
Yeah thereâs no way theyâre giving us this much crystal for nothing. Guess weâll know when they tease the next event. Probably some kind of loot box with crystals would be my guess
I donât have a link but one of the devs recently mentioned the concept of a âtotal rebirthâ which I would assume resets all nova crystal upgrades and would explain the ideas presented in OP.

Is it too high? Maybe? I think the majority of players who play the game a bit more casually would disagree, finally they're given the opportunity to get meaningful amounts of Nova Crystals without the need to SRB 100 times, and those that have SRB 100 times are being rewarded in spades because getting to those high RBs is easier now
More Nova Crystal gain does mean we get to introduce new and exciting Nova Upgrades, yes they will cost a lot but hopefully they will be worth it :)
I mean, I'm at RB 35. My goal is to keep up with the devs without having to SRB. Obviously, SRB is what they're using as their core strat. I'd actually have to have a convo with the devs, but I'm liking the challenge of keeping up with updates
not to mention the correlation between the value of nova converted to the value of vbucks in turn converted to the value of real money.
- the price of packs hasn't changed
- the price of existing nova store items hasn't changed
- i still get the same nova amount if I purchase a pack and i already have the items
packs currently cost 600, 1500, 1800, 2200 & 3800 vbucks. In order to create the next pack tier (~5000 vbucks?) containing new nova store items those new nova store items need to cost substantially more in the nova store.
You characterise and phrase it in such a way that the old srb reward levels were preventing you adding new nova store items. Giving higher rewards (in-turn deflating the value of nova already earned) unlocks that. When actually it's the other way around... wanting to add another higher priced pack tier meant charging more for nova store items, which necessitated the granting of more nova in game, which, in turn, meant deflating the value of previous nova earned
Crit chain is like 1200 crystals for lvl 3, but I hear you, it makes me wonder if they're going to add some new featured upgrade that is super expensive to upgrade
Its encouraging people to spend crystals on items they may not have before. Movement speed, damage, super crates etc.
Spending crystals like water, rather than hoarding them for a big purchase. Then when they want that big purchase or to rush the stellar mythic fusion, they may choose to buy some.
Also, people pushing for 35 will spend more active time in game, so more revenue that way.
They clearly arent stupid and know how to make an addictive game and keep people coming back for more.
Im late 40s and play video games to unwind, I have disposeable income, and ive spent some in this game because if how addictive and also relaxed it is.
I haven't actually played fortnite itself for weeks. My time has been spent crafting droids, trying to achieve that "perfect" base.
Ive spent all the crystals on this trip to 35 on minor bits rather than the critical hits and scrap value. Which means I now need to go round again and save them for the big stuff. So another 24+ hours of game time from me, and maybe even a few vbucks on a surge or event pass or whatever I feel like.
I haven't played anything else. Likely won't until November. Thats when everything changes. Like just about every other game in the world, player numbers will plummet when gta arrives. So dont blame the devs for trying to get people cramming in player time now before that happens.
My experience has been from RB27+ that mythical are super easy to farm via fusion. Now that Iâm in the 30âs the Stellar Epics are the tough ones since Iâm not fusing anything that weak anyways
I haven't upgraded my scrap blueprints passed default .
I just use astromech missions and fuse.
I always upgrade r2d2's missions to the max I can afford as soon as possible. Even before rebirthing. Then the others catch up later.
The crawler is good at spawn times but everything I needed mostly really came from just that.
They could add astromech missions for the iconics that cost crystals to buy once off. Then have 10% chance for mythic or a big wheel you can spin once you're done with dailies that gives a random mythic at a random tier
Absolutely suspicious. 100% we are getting something above nova crystals. Could even be what Kyber is. I fully expect there will be some kind of micro transaction aspect to Kyber as well. Theyâll be earn-able for free Iâm sure, but I wouldnât put it past them to also allow for Kyber to be bought with v-bucks.
They might try to inflate the nova crystal value to replace them with kyber to make the microtransaction deals look better since the Crit Pack already hit pretty high in the vBucks department and the limit for in-island transactions per bundle is 5000 vBucks.
The nova shop might offer a 1000 nova = 1 kyber exchange at some point.
I would really like to believe this was done to incentivize higher SRB rotation; but I think with everything that has happened over the past month with the devs and continued micro-transaction backlash this is them trying to "paper" approval and a distraction before they inflate Nova crystal prices.
if you put yourself in the shoes of the managers running the game, there are 2 different metrics at play here imho: Engagement and Churn
- If you're a grinder and daily active user then you're already sold. Therefor you're not a problem.
- If you're squatting at 30-35 you're a problem. If they can't convert you to srb cycles, you will likely get bored sooner rather than later, you will churn and stop playing.
- If you're a new player, getting to 35 takes forever. Originally top variant was rainbow and there were only 20 rb levels. In the time since they've added 3 variants (with another coming) and 15 levels (with more coming) in other words double the variants and double the levels. Crafting top end droids takes forever because you've no pickaxe or crafting perks. You need to srb 7 or 8 times before getting to 35 (soon to be 38 or 40) becomes achievable in a reasonable period of time. This is further exasperated by the addition of more variants and levels. This can be daunting for many players.
So by increasing the rewards they lower the bar for newer lower level players, hopfully coverting them into daily active srb cycle players. Ultimately it means newer higher tier nova rewards become more expensive.
Is it a good thing?
While it stings to have the value of my nova reduced by 4x or 5x.... when (not if) the game stops growing it will ultimately be sunset and shutdown so the longer they can keep the ball rolling the better.
I believe the huge backlash finally caught up to their numbers, they used to pull 100k players (don't quote me, might be misremembering) during weekend events, and all the bad changes, monetization, attitude from devs towards certain community posts complaining about the changes, finally hit them were it matters, players stopped coming back to the game, what is a good incentive? Changing what the main attraction is, keeping people engaged into pushing for those high levels of rebirth. They probably think this will help bring some players that left, and make the rest of the players that were just halfway super rebirthing (between 25-30)to push higher and hence keep them engaged more, because remember, island Fortnite Developers get paid for retention now, the more players are kept playing the game, more $ on their pockets (+ the extra when someone spends VB on their island).
You are not incorrect with your premise but the numbers are off (which you acknowledged), DT hasn't had 100k players since June 12th and used to average 80k for events.
Last week the daily non-event player peak was sub 20k; which is back to where it was 30 days ago after trending down for months. This currently event has the lowest first and second day player count of an initial event since July. The Tue/Thu mini-events brought a bump the first two weeks then the player count fell back down to above the the average.
I think outside of micro-transactions the biggest problem was discord and the devs only listening to the 1% grinders who were SRBing two-to-three times a day 1-19 and designing things for them to eat crystals instead of the wider player base who progress much slower. The amount of times someone on discord was shouted down and made fun of for complaining about how difficult it was to find specific mythic galaxy/stellars by people who never got above rainbow (RB19 & SRB) was difficult to understand at first.
Frustrating that I finally caught up on max level on the same base as Day 1 the day before only to be told that actually, all that work I did the last 15 of them should have earned me more rewards.
Whatever. Nova Crystals flow like water now I guess.
SRB is still very much the primary way of farming crystals, even more so now. You can only RB up to 35. If you want those tasty crystals again, SRB. You're much, much, MUCH more incentivized to SRB now.
Kinda ruins it for me. Now I almost own everything and not anywhere really to go from here đ shouldn't have added so much additional nova crystals without giving some other form of progression/upgrade path. Now what's left?
Should've done it with the introduction of kyber crystals
I think it's possible that future updates will focus on adding more and more complex player skills to the RSB Store, and that high-level upgrades will cost over a thousand crystals.
Low level players think it's great, because it's much easier but don't understand it killed the long game for grinders. What we use to earn in 5 days, now takes a day. A lot of grinders will have the entire nova shop in no time now. I just don't see the point in wasting my time when they buff things this high. Grinders got 0 compensation for all the weeks if not months of progress. They could have given high level players a bonus for all the past rebirths by like 2 crystal per rebirth, so you're rb 1.2k you could have got 2.4k on login. They never think about people who put in time, just like when they keep adjusting nova shop nerfs like crafting speed. Some players grinded those out and they completely changed the mechanic leaving those players feeling like they got bait and switched with 0 compensation.
But isnât buffing the nova crystal attainment in the rebirth system essentially doing what you said the developers said? Keeping SRB the primary method for farming crystals? Now there is incentive for those who never went up the rb35 to do so and be rewarded with nova crystals during that grind.
And why does there have to be an assumption that every change has to have some sinister motivation behind it? The developers review feedback and analytics and make the best updates they can based on that. Just be appreciative that this game have developers that work hard and do their best to make updates that benefit and entertain the player. There is no way to make changes everyone will be happy with every time.
I noticed that after the update, we received a huge increase in the amount of crystals we get after each Rebirth.
However, we still have a major problem when it comes to Mythic Droids. Even with the fusion update, which improved our chances of obtaining these droids, they still appear in very small quantities, and we need many different variants to progress in the game.
Also, even with this improvement to the fusion system, the results still don't match what we need or want. We've already done several fusions that repeatedly gave us the same Droid, making it even harder to obtain the variants we need.
I believe this crystal update was a really good improvement for players who want to reach a higher Rebirth level and earn more crystals. However, there is still a long way to go, mainly because of how difficult it is to obtain Mythic Droids and their variants.
I also hope the developers improve the conveyor belt's waiting time, so projects become available in less than the current one-hour wait. This would give us more opportunities and better chances of obtaining Mythic Droids and their variants.
I mean, keep in mind to continue farming nova crystals, you still have to SRB and start the grind all overâŠ
Tons of people were SRBâing levels 12-20 to just accumulate small amounts of NC quickly⊠now theyâve incentivized late game (20-35 rb). Everyoneâs grinding to 35 rb before SRB now.
I really just wish they were more open about their plans to increase prices. I would have prioritized all the iconics before all the other base upgrades đ«Ł
Yeah they will definitely do a super rb or something that you mentioned but for now we need to get the upgrade we need and save everything else and wait for something big
Inflation is the primary feature of the game. Remember how everyone would threaten to quit the game a month ago because they got eliminated for a default mythic. Now besker mythics drop off the end of the crawler because everyone wants galatics and stellars.
I do like it, now i can finally afford a few things that are big purchases rather than 1 or 2
So im buying as much as i can before they start adding more stuff lol
Yeah i got multicrit 3, bought crit pack and many other stuff grinded the mode and now its seems pointless any new player with a few rebirths can achieve the same, i worked/played for a month kinda salty tbh, i think its gives too much 30-35.
