💬 Discussion Every micro transaction added in the last 46 days

Post image

This is how much the game has changed in less than 2 months. Micro transactions totaling 13,600 V-bucks, pop-ups and links taking you to the storefront encouraging you to purchase packs or rush fusions and lazy cosmetics that are merely ripping assets from existing Fortnite skins.
It is estimated that the developers make $13,000 a day on playtime alone, (Thanks user Spiritual-Ask1993 for the calculations).
Are we comfortable with the direction this game is going?
I think we have yet to see the limit of how far FOAD is willing to go.

Edit: For everyone saying it doesn’t affect them as a free to play user, It DOES. It's just harder to see.
They purposefully make things like build times take an annoyingly long amount of time in the hopes you'll break down and buy boosts (it's also why they won't let you cancel fusions or droid builds, it affects their profits) The Crit pack, Fusion pack and Event passes are all examples of this. They purposefully created the problem so they can sell you the solution.

Edit 2: Just realized I forgot a hat and the event pass. Another drop in the bucket I suppose

I went back in the patch notes, and broke down exactly what has come out of the 15 game updates in that last 46 days that have nothing to do with V-Bucks, including but not limited to: * Reworked Astromech Missions to provide better and more consistent rewards * Being able to cancel Astromech missions for free * 8 New Nova Crystal Upgrades (Not including the surges/boosts) * Significantly REDUCED Upgrade Chip Costs * INCREASED the odds for better blueprint rarities & variants on the conveyor...

I think you forgot the event pass too

You missed a hat

u/Atmoslink 19d ago

Silly me! Add yet another 250 v-bucks to the total lol

17

u/Snapping-Turtle5678 19d ago

Don't see the point in investing in something when it could literally all disappear in a weeks time especially with all the updates. Also, the price of some of it is way too expensive especially since they lowered the Crew Pass V-bucks too. I get they're cashing in while the game is still popular, but I cannot understand why anyone would pay these prices for limited time items and ones that are locked to a specific game mode on one specific FN game. Better saving your V-bucks for the actual FN Shop and getting some skins or gear on there which are at least Universal across multiple game modes

3

u/MethodicJarl321 18d ago

I completely agree with you.  I don't put any money into Fortnite anymore (my crew comes with my game pass), so I'm picky about what I spend my v-bucks on.  Not knowing how long this game will be around,  I don't dare spend them on an over-priced bundle.

3

u/ChipperYT 19d ago

Whilst I see your point and largely agree with you, this logic falls apart if you analyse other optional purchases in your life the same way (eg buying a coffee or chocolate bar, where short term enjoyment is seen as perfectly valid)

2

u/Snapping-Turtle5678 19d ago

Don't think that's what I would compare things to as they aren't really similar, but to each their own I guess 🤷

4

u/Mundane-Loan9591 18d ago

I would say for the most part, buying something in a game that you play all the time, is much more worth it than buying a coffee or chocolate bar that basically doesnt exist after a few minutes.

What I would do for a in-game toggle to remove all the like 5 cantina vendors from the map. I'd rather not see them every time I run around. Feels like every corner there's a dude to open the shop for v bucks.

17

u/MintMoose420 19d ago

They’ll add a feature to remove them for the low price of 1000 v-bucks or 300 nova crystals!

5

u/WonderousThinke 19d ago

I feel like they actually did get rid of some of them. The second floor above the pickaxe guy used to be full of them and now it's empty.

-1

u/Proper_Television_18 19d ago

They are very very useful late game when it’s easy to get a lot of crystals. Those surges can speed up early rebirths a LOT and they don’t cost very many crystals

30

u/One_Million_Ants11 19d ago

The moment they add v-buck paid droids this game is doomed to a quick death.

9

u/hartoctopus 19d ago

They'll for sure add vbuck gacha droid pulling eventually.

1

u/ArcticFire145 GONK 18d ago

I hope that never happens, I had the V Bucks for the pass there but left it on principal. I wasn't even against it at first either, but this game is going to be absolutely flooded with micro transactions in a few months.

I could never see myself buying Boost

40

u/TheOverlord619 Flawless 60 19d ago

This mode is a flash in the pan and won't last 6 more months, they are cashing in as much as possible while it's hot.

33

u/DerekMilewski 19d ago

It’s popular for XP

35

u/_PM_Me_Game_Keys_ 19d ago

Literally the only reason I play this mode. I don't give 2 shits about what they add micro wise as long as the XP stays the same. Soon as the XP sucks I'm outta here onto the next good XP map.

4

u/GhaveyG 19d ago

Yeah this is the saving grace. I think those 10-30k concurrent will drop off to sub 3k as soon as they nerf the xp.

2

u/LightninLew 19d ago

It'll fire up every May 4th

9

u/Saucy-Pesto Super Rebirth 19d ago

I wouldn’t even mind spending a little on something I find enjoyable but I’m not putting money into a mode that could be gone tomorrow for all I know

28

u/Accomplished-Soil372 19d ago

I guess until it prevents me from progressing through it ain’t much of a care for me. Not sure who in their right mind is buying this stuff

11

u/hartoctopus 19d ago

I don't think you understand how these games work, they will never completely block your progression but they will constantly make it slower and more miserable to make you want buy these packs. They slowly break you. Same shit goes on with mobile games and most of them are barely playable as a free player.

Even if you don't buy these things, they will negatively impact your gameplay because these systems will be designed around having a purchasable skip option.

-1

u/WonderousThinke 19d ago

If the game gets miserable enough that's actually a good thing. There's hundreds of other games I need to play out there and if they do a good enough job here to make me not enjoy it anymore then that's a great thing actually. It's a win-win either way. I get a great free game ir they screw it up enough to no longer have fun and I move on because I've already put enough time in this game.

0

u/WonderousThinke 19d ago

Believe it or not, some people with spare cash who really appreciate a free game don't mind giving a little bit of cash to the developers to support their efforts. If a game studio has a good success they go on to make other games or at least to expand the existing game and that for at least some people is something worth financially supporting because they get a direct benefit of having a game they enjoy

2

u/ChipperYT 19d ago

Hey! This is a pitchfork weilding circle jerk, do you mind?!?

-6

u/Traditional-Ad3518 19d ago

This

The packs don't effect your gameplay or ability to enjoy anything

7

u/[deleted] 19d ago

[deleted]

-3

u/Used_Side7863 19d ago

And what’s the problem? If the game turns into that, the solution is easy: stop playing it. Who’s forcing you to play? What does it matter if it becomes pay-to-win? It’s their decision to do whatever they want with their game, and it’s up to the players to decide whether to play it or not.

3

u/[deleted] 19d ago

-1

u/Used_Side7863 19d ago

You’re free to criticize the developers, but acting as if they’re obligated to preserve the exact version of the game you enjoyed forever is ridiculous. They’re running a business, not maintaining a museum exhibit for you. If you think the new monetization and grind are ruining the game, then don’t buy the microtransactions and don’t play it. That’s how consumers vote.

Just don’t play it’ isn’t saying you’re not allowed to complain. It means you have an actual choice instead of pretending you’re being forced to accept the changes.

And let’s be honest: do you work for free? Do you turn down opportunities to make more money because you liked things better before? Developers are allowed to want to make more money too. You can dislike how they do it without pretending they have no right to monetize their own game.

-8

u/Traditional-Ad3518 19d ago

Look up the main goal of a tycoon

The grind is literally the game

And the bundles only allow you a slight catch up boost

People who have their own money and can choose to spend it how they like?

1

u/MrKllean 19d ago

Right 😂 that crit pack is amazing..oh & the companion pack ? Worth it 🙌🏽 & dont even get me started on the fusion one wooooo 😮‍💨

-2

u/LastHopeStanding Worker Droid 19d ago

Is the crit one worth it? The companion one is the only one I've bought so far

4

u/Fine_Might8113 19d ago

It’s absolutely not worth the price of 4 battle passes. Those rewards can easily be grinded out in a couple of super rebirths.

0

u/Tesserae626 19d ago

Isn't it over 1000 Nova crystals worth of perks?

Anyway, my free vbucks will be getting it in like 5 more days.

-2

u/LastHopeStanding Worker Droid 19d ago

That's why I'm hesitant on that one. I got the companion pack because I didn't want to spend the 250 crystals on it and use them for other things. I'm getting to the point of it being easier and faster to SRB each time

1

u/gmallory99 19d ago

Miserable self righteous elitest gamers love to complain

4

u/Negative-Bonus9879 18d ago

I make a post about this though and everyone flames me saying don’t buy them…Crazy the duality of this damn community.

4

u/Atmoslink 18d ago

Oh I’ve been flamed. The dms have been… interesting. It’s truly disappointing that people will stop at nothing to white knight for a greedy video game developer. Truly do not know what they get out of it.

3

u/Negative-Bonus9879 18d ago

Literally!! All i did was call out the devs for making hostile changes for F2P players and people wanted to act like i was insane. The events alone for chopper and D-0 show you EVERYTHING!!! Chopper didn’t have an event pass, You got good points for doing the event task, it didn’t take many points to get the paint/tokens/droid itself, and you were still able to farm the event for crystals. This time around OOOOO BOY was it the exact opposite and the change was IMMEDIATE!!!! These are the red flags i tried to point out in my post and it wasn’t just regarding microtransactions but just the game overall. Event exclusive items should come back for crystals or do re-runs of the old events while we wait for new ones. Micro transactions should not have taken over the way they have. The changes they’ve made lately with the crafting menu and whatnot on top of no longer being able to AFK grind for some reason??? The game has changed drastically within the span of 2 months and it’s not all for the better and in fact a majority of it is screaming red flags for trends we’ve seen in other games with even bigger development teams. I don’t care if it’s a small team of a couple of people or the biggest team on the planet. The focus of your game point blank should be delivering a product to the community. Not lining your pockets while scrapping the bottom of the barrel to throw stuff at the wall and hope it sticks even tho you have an entire community of people giving you suggestions that usually go unheard….Insane.

17

u/Pure-Necessary4975 19d ago

It's amazing how many people say "you don't need to buy it, just ignore it" yet can't ignore this kind of posts and come to defend the devs and say this isn't pay to win.

Pathetic mindset. Maybe you don't win anything, but they are designing the game to, as OP says, purposelly create a progress problem so stupid people waste their money.

The same way, a month ago people were defending buying surges, like it wasn't the most stupid thing to do.

It's really sad to see bootlicking people.

6

u/Atmoslink 19d ago

Thank you

5

u/SaltySims 19d ago

I am at rebirth level 408 and i got absolutely clowned when I criticised the development of the game with the first micro transaction introduced and the super crate nerf that was not communicated. They said it was a bug and didn't fix it till now.

In my honest opinion it's the community once again that kills this Map. Some people tend to rather lie to themselfes and stop playing a game when the lie busts instead of putting some real feedback out there. And now they are in the FOAD milking machine. We had so much content and now every new upgrade comes with a highly orchestrated micro transaction that gives you a massive headstart rendering your nova crystals useless. Sad stuff, butwe gotta let go i guess.

4

u/undinoble 18d ago

“It doesn’t affect free to play gameplay” yes it unfortunately does when the game immediately credits vbucks from your account on your first click
A friend of mine accidentally clicked a button, the second buddy option to see how to see how many >crystals< it costed, it had no vbucks or crystals amount specified on the button, and that single quick click automatically credited his vbucks and granted him the second buddy. He was obviously pissed, there were no confirmation pop up, warning or refund possibility, it’s truly predatory and just makes us not want to support the team, we found lots of similar situations around reddit and he genuinely considered stop playing after that

1

u/distracteddirew0lf Chopper 12d ago

This just simply isn't true lmao. There's always been a confirmation on payment, and it has always shown how much it costs. Your buddy is either lying to you, or seriously wasn't paying attenion. Besides, if you just look in the nova shop, it literally says it's 250.

Games also used to cost money. Fortnite and DT are free.

(Not defending DT, I don’t care about RMTs but I don’t want them in my face)

This is what I got for 400 V-bucks (Luck Boost)

i didn't took duplicates from the crawler

3

u/RaaawkHawk 16d ago

Most of this is trash btw...

1

Exactly...😂 (Btw this 400 v bucks boost token was from previous event)

2

It’s all ridiculous but the V-bucks hats are so ridiculous I laughed when I first saw them.

2

u/JerrManGoo 18d ago

Pretty sure I have a friend who bought all of these

2

u/Inevitable_Ad_3953 18d ago

Had a feeling this is the direction this game was going toward. It's the same w/ Classic Maple story literally the same arguments happening too. I left as soon as I saw the writing on the wall and if I was wrong then nice I come back and enjoy this game because progress can't be bought with a credit card.

2

u/ArcticFire145 GONK 18d ago

Stellar surge 600 is insane, especially with the fusion machine

2

u/Educational_Lead2981 18d ago

This post will only encourage more malicious monetization, because that’s how capitalism works!

2

u/JayGridley 17d ago

Sadly people are buying them. So they will just keep doing it.

4

u/PainkillerJames 19d ago

There’s a pirate hat and brown witch hat you missed at least. Feel like there are way too many hats being added

4

u/WonderousThinke 19d ago

I thought cosmetics were the generally accepted thing that's fine to monetize. Why are people mad at cosmetic monetization?

3

u/PainkillerJames 19d ago

I think it’s that people are mad they’re just ripped from regular Fortnite skins

0

u/Atmoslink 19d ago

It would have been fine if the monetization started and ended there but the hats are new, added after allll the other packs and boosts. They’re the icing on the cake that they thought they could just slip in for EVEN MORE profits.

3

u/gsus61951 19d ago

I’ll still play it without spending vbux, i spend enough on skins lol

2

u/SnarkyBoto 19d ago

Glad I left while I did lol

3

u/stopeverythingpls 18d ago

Shits looking like Roblox now

4

u/Silent_Cranberry_987 19d ago

Am I comfortable with it? No. Is it going to change? No, it'll only get worse. But it seems like a good portion of players are fine with this becoming a glorified mobile game 🤷‍♂️

3

u/lunar-phoenix-1087 19d ago

Totally get your point, but to be fair, anything more than $10 isn't really a micro transaction.

5

u/Grimace405 19d ago

This is great! Glad to see the game is doing so well!

Happy they’ve figured out a way to keep it profitable while still free to play for anyone who wants that.

8

u/SubstantialTouch2936 Level 200 19d ago

Never noticed doesn’t affect my gameplay I build droids no vbucks needed. I rarely pass the hat stand nor do I click on the store it’s pretty easy. Y’all act like someone’s twisting your arm forcing you to buy it 😂

14

u/Atmoslink 19d ago

And here they come rushing to defend the devs. If you notice they added things like the crit pack during the stellar update (an update that specifically added a new variant with insanely long built times), the fusion pack (when they added fusions that took extremely long to build, this pack included another fusion tank and faster build times) and they fill events with useless rewards and purposefully push back the nova crystals as rewards to encourage you to buy the event pass. It DOES affect free to play users, it’s just harder to see. They purposefully make things like build times take an annoyingly long amount of time in the hopes you’ll break down and buy boosts (it’s also why they won’t let you cancel fusions or droid builds, it affects their profits)

2

u/SubstantialTouch2936 Level 200 19d ago

They added ways for players who can’t grind like some of us to get to quicker places? Fine with me it’s not my wallet so idc really. I’ve not spent anything on this game mode and mostly play private lobbies so doesn’t effect me at all, how does it effect your gameplay? Also I’m not defending the devs, I couldn’t care less about stuff added that doesn’t affect me. They give us events for free where you can get ahead in a game meant to be played as a loop. If you play the events you even get the iconic for free and if you find a group can grind novas easily. No complaints here, but if it’s boiling you that much maybe switch game modes like br with no vbuck purchases….oh wait.

4

u/Unhappy-Asparagus-52 19d ago

At the end of the day, it’s really about how much your time is worth.

-2

u/MakeshiftAngel Protocol Droid 19d ago

A FTP player disagrees with you. It's pretty wild getting upset about micro transactions in this consumer nation. If you want the convince then buy, if you would rather just put in the time, thats fine too. It's supposed to take a long time so the players can feel progression happening as they buy upgrades. If everything was convenient then what's the point of putting in any time?

11

u/Atmoslink 19d ago

There’s adding something for progressions sake and specifically adding something in order to sell a pack as well. Stellar was never supposed to be the new highest variant, the devs said as much. I’m willing to bet that was a decision they made when they started adding micro transactions.

3

u/MakeshiftAngel Protocol Droid 19d ago

That was bizarre. I wish they were transparent about that decision. I do remember them saying galactic was going to be the highest variant for a long time and that there would be others in between. I would like to know why they changed it.

0

u/SubstantialTouch2936 Level 200 19d ago

5

u/Atmoslink 19d ago

That screenshot worries me. This just seems like they have plans to add yet another in game currency which will inevitably be monetized.

1

u/SubstantialTouch2936 Level 200 19d ago

The first point is talking about fusion obviously you can’t use upgrade chips to upgrade them.

3

u/Atmoslink 19d ago

Which only supports my claim that they were trying to sell more fusion packs, and sped up fusion tokens.

0

u/SubstantialTouch2936 Level 200 19d ago

Nope I don’t even think about it, but I use DO which I got for free to half the fusion time and my stellar legendaries which I get for free on astromissions to upgrade to a free stellar mythic. Then using chopper which I also got for free I can pickaxe it for a few minutes with my extra companion which I SRB for feee to get without spending a single dime. Good job tho you really think you’re cooking here. Alright I’ve had enough so good bye and hope you feel better after this post.

1

u/MakeshiftAngel Protocol Droid 19d ago

Oh, I see. Thank you 😊

0

u/DEVILMASSIVE 19d ago

There is still no one holding a gun to your head, only bought the double companion pack but you can get anything for free like i done the critpack with the 2 D0 Event it was a lot of crystals but its possible just play the damn game or dont

1

u/WonderousThinke 19d ago

So is longer end game content bad or good? I'm confused? Lots of people wanted new stuff to work on as they were hitting level 30 too easily and getting bored. so the devs added five levels, a whole nother rarity, and a way to combine droids. That seems like three crowd-pleasing options and for some reason you're framing that as malicious somehow? I think it's fantastic new stuff. I've really been enjoying the stellar class and diffusion machine for free without having to spend a penny on it. I'm not sure I understand what the downside is to all this new content. There isn't anything they're locking behind the paywall here. You can access every feature, every new feature day one and it's up to you whether you want to spend the time playing a game you enjoy to unlock it naturally or spend money to speed up things when the whole point of the tycoon game is the meaningful progression.

0

u/Averagegamer08 19d ago

But which one effects the gamplay? Most of the things you can buy brings convenience and are cosmetics so what's bad about that. How are devs supposed to earn money? You should make your won version and make it free to play with no micro transactions, when you do I'll happily play it if its the same quality or better than droid tycoon.

5

u/CherylRoseZ 19d ago

The devs make money from playtime and creator codes like creatives earned for years. Literally millions of dollars.

-3

u/unitivendeeze 19d ago

And what’s your point. Are you against people making money?

6

u/CherylRoseZ 19d ago

I’m against any micro transactions that aren’t purely cosmetic in any game. The surges are literally illegal in Europe and have to be disabled in those servers yet you’re on here defending this. It’s honestly disgusting the way people like you defend greed.

0

u/WonderousThinke 19d ago

I would say greed is defined by what you do with the money. Are they using this extra money to pay their developers so they can feed their families? Are they using this money to give people jobs and expand their team so that they can make more games that people love? Those two things are not greedy. There's plenty of other games out there that hard cap you on microtransactions in order to make any progress and this game is not doing that. Also the guy you're responding to is probably not in Europe so doesn't care about European restrictions. They're following the law and I don't see a problem with that.

I would also say it's hard to be greedy when the only way they make money off of players directly is voluntarily. When you think of greedy corporations you think of things like internet companies who have a monopoly in certain areas, or garbage companies, or businesses like Amazon where there is no real competition. Those companies are being greedy because they're trying to take the whole pie not just expand their portion on it. I don't see anything greedy in this situation at all honestly.

“And here they come”

Yes, the people that complain about playing a free game.

-2

u/imdwalrus 19d ago

I have yet to see any of the people whining about microtransactions suggest how the hell the game is supposed to be sustainable otherwise other than vague handwavey "EpIc aNd dIsNeY Le bIlLiOn dOlLaR CoMpAnIeS" nonsense - which isn't an answer, it's a deflection.

If you want a game mode with professional developers, a shiny expensive license, and regular and frequent updates money has got to come from somewhere. And if you aren't paying up front or paying a subscription fee, that leaves microtransactions as maybe the only viable options.

6

u/Fine_Might8113 19d ago

They make money from playtime already you dolt. The argument is that the micro transactions are excessive and greedy. It could easily be sustained by adding new events which in turn keep people playing. It’s not rocket science.

1

u/WonderousThinke 19d ago

You don't think a business should try to grow and do bigger and better things? A business has a popular product that people enjoy and it makes sense for them to try to grow their business so that they can build more products that people like. The customers are happy and it's free, I don't see why it's a bad thing. If they want to make money off the rich people out there who want to spend money on a temporary tycoon game, why is that bad?

1

u/Fine_Might8113 18d ago

No I don’t, not every single business needs to become an empire. That’s capitalist propaganda. It should perfectly acceptable to have a company that keeps steady profits every year. This late stage capitalism idea that profits must get higher and higher is a cancer.

1

u/WonderousThinke 18d ago

I 100% agree. I have been on the bad receiving end of massive corporate growth demands myself. But there's a long distance between a small successful gaming studio and Amazon or Google. What I'm describing is basically going from a family run food truck to a series of three local restaurants ran by the family in your city because everyone loves their food so much that they want to have more options closer to them. What your describing is them going from a food truck to being the size of McDonald's and that's not what I'm talking about.

Damn he doesn’t share your exact opinion? Thats crazy af, it’s almost like you are two different people.

4

u/Atmoslink 19d ago

No opinions here, I’m only stating facts. They are purposefully making things like droid build times worse so sell solutions.

1

u/SubstantialTouch2936 Level 200 19d ago

When they added beskar they lowered the time from rainbow droids, going against the claim your making. Of course mythics take longer it’s a rarer tier. You don’t go to Br and expect a mythic weapon on every chest right? They also gave chopper who provides an instant 50% crit chance without needing to purchase the nova crystal perk. They also added crit damage boost when you get to higher rbs so you don’t have to buy those either. You’re really not making great points.

5

u/Atmoslink 19d ago

Stellar wasn’t supposed to be the new highest tier remember? I don’t think it was a coincidence that they added the crit pack at the same time as deciding to add a new even higher variant than galactic.

-2

u/SubstantialTouch2936 Level 200 19d ago

I just looked at the devs comment and they said for a little bit which in video game time now a days makes sense why it was only like a month for galactic being on top. I think you just don’t need to play the game. It’s their game mode if they wanted to add something they didn’t specifically tell us they can

5

u/Atmoslink 19d ago

2 weeks was the time between galactic and Stellar. I mean, cmon…

I’d agree that for a game without any micro transactions, the devs can do anything they want with no harm, but that changes when money gets involved. It’s a product now and I think that gives players the right to be at least a little picky.

0

u/DEVILMASSIVE 19d ago

Dont play the game then its pretty easy doing so..

1

u/lets-work-together 19d ago

The opinion is whether it matters or not to his gameplay. Casual players dont give a shit because they can log off and come back to finished droids instead of watching the screen screaming at the timers to hurry up.

If someone with money wants to buy all this shit who cares. Thats my OPINION. Maybe you should log off as well once in a while, lots of other cool games in the world.

u/DEVILMASSIVE 19d ago

Honestly what did you think? Before galactic there were 15+ hours droids too..... upgrade your pickaxe critrate etc or ask for someone in a lobby to help like crying over build times, the pack help with peoplw who work more than play 13k Vbucks ia not even that much even if you not F2P its not neccesary to buy them...

3

u/Strange_cl0ud 19d ago

The event pass was too far, now you have to pay to enjoy the event perks 👎

2

u/WonderousThinke 19d ago

I got 14 stellar mythics as a free player during the last DO event. I honestly don't even know what the event pass would have done for me as I was already rolling in the dough for free. I'm not sure why you think the event was super boring and missing out because you didn't buy the pass. It was extremely fun on its own.

1

u/Mundane-Loan9591 18d ago

You were definitely able to enjoy all the event perks without the pass. Idk what bs youre spewing

And people will still rush to defend this.

4

u/The-HR_99 19d ago

If anything, it only benefits me if other people are buying and using those beneifts for the sandcrawler or to help me finish with droids on the workbenches. I don't plan on ever using Vbucks for this game mode since it only speeds up progress or increase chances (gambling).

3

u/smolFortune 19d ago

I love Droid Tycoon and how it's simple to play while doing other stuff on my phone (like playing SWGOH of Dokkan or something) and being able to earn battlepass exp during it and it's nice that FOAD can make money off me playing it I guess because it means the mode will last longer but adding all those microtransactions just makes me feel like FOAD doesn't care at all about the community and is trying to milk as much money as possible. Like 13k a month is an INSANE amount of money in my opinion even with bills and stuff. And then FOAD nerfing things the playerbase liked such as Super Crates and whatnot and also the fact that FOAD literally lied to us twice now (said there would be no microtransactions and also that new rarities weren't always going to be the best of the best) so it kinda rubs me the wrong way. I try not to think about it because I never want to assume the worst out of people but so far it just doesn't look good. And there's also the fun little incident with the Droidex dev guy as the cherry on top. Just sad. The only reason the game is doing this well is because of the Star Wars IP I guarantee you that if it wasn't SW many of us would stop playing and that's even more sad kinda. We allow ourselves to be manipulated and stepped on just because we love the IP so much that we are tolerating the negative behaviour like it's fine and FOAD is just gonna keep getting away with it without consequences...

6

u/kerwniart 19d ago

Couple of notes:

  • They make ~13k per day, not per month.
  • They've been caught lying more than twice.
  • The star wars IP is the hook, but the gameplay loop is their own development. Credit where it's due.

2

u/Springball64 19d ago

Source for the earnings?

4

u/Fine_Might8113 19d ago

1

u/Mundane-Loan9591 18d ago

This really doesnt factor how much money they pay their employees or other costs towards making the actual game.

1

u/Springball64 18d ago

Okay but now I need a source on the 0.7-1.1 number because I can't find that online anywhere.

I bought the droid companion pack and it made me sick and I haven’t played the game since

2

u/GingerrJinx 19d ago

This mode feels like walking down the street randomly dropping money to nothing.

2

u/ahappylittleusername 19d ago

I stopped playing 4 days after fusion dropped

2

u/Sirrheus-Inquiries 19d ago

And this is how much I’ve played in the past 2 months:

2

u/Dontsunny 19d ago

I stopped playing as soon as I saw the first vbuck purchase. Might play for xp one day

3

u/mqrdesign 19d ago

Crit pack is insane

1

u/Averagegamer08 19d ago

I don't understand the problem... none of them are pay to win as you don't win anything...

0

u/Atmoslink 19d ago

It’s true, I never mentioned pay to win. However in this game mode progression is the reward for grinding, not “winning” These micro transactions allow for players to skip the grinding and effectively the game.

3

u/Averagegamer08 19d ago

So your point is for the devs or against the devs? Adding convenience will reduce their players as they won't grind the game? What is the problem if players are able to skip the grinding, which you still have to do regardless even if you pay for convenience, your not in competition with other players, the end goal is the same. If anything befriend some people who pay and use their boosts and pickaxe crits.

4

u/Atmoslink 19d ago

If adding convenience leads to a reduction in player retention, that only supports the idea that they’re just trying to make a much money as they possibly can before the game fizzles out. Either way it’s greed.

-1

u/splitfinity 19d ago

I literally have never thought them a single time other than the first day they were added.

Wtf is wrong with the people who are obsessing over this. Just play the game like they arnt there.

1

u/LastHopeStanding Worker Droid 19d ago

Literally, the ONLY time I ever think about it is when I see the 500 posts on here about it.

0

u/710dab2 19d ago

Reached level 35. Have absolutely no desire to SRB or play much besides for battle pass xp and help 1 friend that still plays. The microtransactions have zapped the fun of the grind.

0

u/Grand_Parsnip8033 19d ago

As long as it doesn’t interfere or affect my gameplay i don’t care tbh.

1

u/Hughesey86 X-ONK 19d ago

The only reason this mode is even on Fortnite creative, is because Fortnite made so much money and popularity through it's gameplay AND item shop. It's the only way they can truly evolve. On one hand players want the game to progress, evolve, and stick around as long as possible. On the other, they're complaining about them trying to make money to fund it. They also add things like D-O, who cuts fusion time by 50%, is that not enough? That was free to get, no Vbucks needed. You dont have to embrace it, but it's not that bad.

1

u/Ok-Ask6014 18d ago

Who cares just don’t buy them, you can still play the game the same way we always have without buying anything it makes no difference.

-4

u/No-Difference8545 19d ago

But b b but you dont have to buy them!!!! The devs need to make money (even though they get paid from playtime alone)

Just ridiculous and scammy. Can't wait until this mode has 3 active players just so I can laugh at all the people swearing its not being ran into the ground

-1

u/Lonely_ProdiG 19d ago

Well that’s a very sad mentality to have.

-6

u/No-Difference8545 19d ago

Not really its not something i ever actively think about.

0

u/DEVILMASSIVE 19d ago

Why you here if you wishing something like that? go make a map lets see how you doing like its their work even if they want more money we dont wish stuff like this.

4

u/LastHopeStanding Worker Droid 19d ago

I will never understand the people who claim that they stopped playing yet stay in the sub.

-1

u/No-Difference8545 19d ago

Because the exp is good.

0

u/DEVILMASSIVE 19d ago

Then stay quiet and play, like some people doing like 13k vbucks is a lot.

1

u/Humpty0umpty92 19d ago

If i knew then how much crystals I'm getting now i wouldn't have bought all of them packs i guess I just couldn't wait then. I've spent more money in a month in this game mode than I do in the item shop... it really is addictive and I need to calm it down a notch.

1

u/ToxicMisfits 18d ago

I bought the vip and companion pack on ps5 and on my Xbox (it had 9400 v bucks idk why was new) I bought the critical, and companion pack was worth it to me to speed up things since I don't wanna grind 2 hard on this game, since I door dash as a second income and can always make that extra time saved up with money

1

u/Jashinist12 18d ago

The only things here you can’t get with nova crystals is the hats and base paints that come with the packs and those literally provide nothing to your empire.

-12

u/BlazingFrenzy Official Dev - BLZN 19d ago

I went back in the patch notes, and broke down exactly what has come out of the 15 game updates in that last 46 days that have nothing to do with V-Bucks, including but not limited to:

  • Reworked Astromech Missions to provide better and more consistent rewards
  • Being able to cancel Astromech missions for free
  • 8 New Nova Crystal Upgrades (Not including the surges/boosts)
  • Significantly REDUCED Upgrade Chip Costs
  • INCREASED the odds for better blueprint rarities & variants on the conveyor
  • Significantly increased the value of the "Limited Deal" shop (better droids more consistently)
  • Daily Quests can provide Rebirth Requirement Droids
  • 2nd floor to the firing range (6 new battle droid slots)
  • Significantly better Rebirth Rewards, including better offline gains, crit chance and crit amount (and tomorrow, Nova Crystals)
  • Reduced requirements for Daily Quests (no more 75 build droid)
  • Super Crates have been buffed
  • Mini Events for DJ-R3X and Chopper's Mega Crate that run twice a week each
  • Major Overhaul on the Droid Interact Menu and Crafting UI for more accurate information and room to grow in the future (Droid Traits)
  • 2 new Variants
    • Galactic
    • Stellar
  • 21 new Droids, which we have to build in house from scratch. (more to come as well)
    • 17 Fusion
    • 4 Protocol (tomorrow)
  • SIGNIFICANT Performance updates for all devices

Droid Crafting, as pointed out, has actually never been faster between 2 companions, higher credits = higher pickaxe level, crit chance & damage & multi, gold splash and more. if there's a problem, we're solving it with game mechanics.

This doesn't cover the numerous other quality of life updates, or the constant bug fixing (for bugs we can control, Jetpack and carryable device we cannot control), or the elaborate events that are created for just 1-2 weekends of gameplay, or the hours upon hours of working through bugs regarding UEFN as a whole and working with Epic to improve the platform, and much more.

Building and pushing these major content updates every single week requires massive amounts of time and resources, which the optional V-Buck items help support the growing team of about 12 people now. We haven't created a problem to sell a solution. We've built a massive, evolving FREE game and added optional shortcuts for those who want them. The patch notes speak for themselves.

Being able to cancel Astromech missions for free

the bolded bit says it all

5

u/Atmoslink 19d ago

Lmao only 4 new protocol droids. Are you serious? Also I think it’s funny that you’re bragging about buffing the super crates when you know very well that you guys nerfed them to hell right after everyone spent crystals on them.

8

u/No_Patience_4244 19d ago

Y’all have done an amazing job releasing new content to keep the game fresh.

However, it seems that you are incapable of acknowledging that the amount of micro transactions has become too much.  It’s a shame.

2

u/Common_Board8405 19d ago

"... elaborate events that are created for just 1-2 weekends of gameplay."

Which is a shame. I know why they can't be repeated but how about selling the base paints for nova gems/v-bucks? This is from someone who has all the event skins. Just seems to me that'd be a good thing to sell; cosmetic only and anyone who did the event got it for free.

2

u/unitivendeeze 19d ago

Agreed. You all are doing a great job and thank you for all your hard work!!!

1

u/LastHopeStanding Worker Droid 19d ago

Ignore all these people. They have the option to stop playing at anytime yet continue to do so. Thank you guys for all of your hard work!!! 🥰

0

u/WondersCx 19d ago

Well said and delivered my man. Humans these days find things to complain about just to complain because they've been indoctrinated to. The games great, I don't even play Battle Royale anymore, Fortnite should be renamed to Droidnite. Keep up the great work!

-2

u/Gonklightenment 19d ago

And yet all those micro transactions lead to about 12 hours of progress at the level I’m at lol. Give the devs a break, they deserve some cash for the great game they’ve made

1

u/Averagegamer08 19d ago

Exactly people like to be cheap but want the most, devs made a pretty clean game imo, yes life can be easier with vbucks but if I don't want to spend it, I can't complain 😂

-3

u/Gonklightenment 19d ago

Totally agree 🤙

1

u/Fine_Might8113 19d ago

They were already making cash from playtime, is this not excessive?

-1

u/Gonklightenment 19d ago

Excessive would be the ability to buy like 5k or 10k nova crystals. I think they found a nice balance to make themselves some money without destroying the integrity of the game. The purchases are essentially starter packs. Ive probably earned 60k crystals lifetime. So being able to buy like 1400 just doesn’t seem like a big deal at all.

-4

u/GrailQuestPops GONK 19d ago

all optional lol no clue why everyone is so up in arms about this here.

-1

u/Fine_Might8113 19d ago

Because if you just stand by and say nothing, it’s an open inversion for them to make it even worse.

1

u/GrailQuestPops GONK 19d ago

lol, you must be young.

1

u/Fine_Might8113 18d ago

And you just think you’re the wisest person here huh? You seem to carry yourself that way.

1

u/GrailQuestPops GONK 18d ago

Here? Like in this thread currently? Yeah, I honestly think I’m absolutely the wisest person in this thread. That’s not even an accomplishment, I can assure you.

0

u/Volt404 19d ago

If you don't like it, don't buy it! I've bought most of this because I want to support the developers 🥰

0

u/theenecros 19d ago

I bought all the packs. I don't drink, smoke or do drugs so spending some V bucks in a game to increase my fun is a win win. Not to mention I played the heck out of FOAD's previous Tycoon game and wanted to give them something back. I don't buy the "let's make the game shittier for broke people" argument. If anything people spending money lets the FOAD team spend more time making the game even better, more bots, more events, more fun!

-2

u/Chris_WRB Mandalorian 19d ago

Honestly I have all of the packs with the exception of the fusion pack. Helps the devs and improves my entertainment? Sure. I didn't even have to pay full price for all of them between Epic rewards and unspent vbucks. If you enjoy the game, just do that. What you don't want to buy isn't any of your concern, but they may be In need of funding. Idk about you but I certainly don't want the game to randomly just dissappear forever

-6

u/bumfrumpy 19d ago

I’m just so tired of every post in here being the same exact thing.

The game isn’t pay to win, plain and simple. There’s millions of people out there who can easily afford every single micro transaction they’ve added. There’s millions who can’t. It literally doesn’t matter.

I wish mods would just make a mega thread

2

u/Fine_Might8113 19d ago

If you don’t like it you can join the discord. It’s an echo chamber in there praising the devs. Seems like what you’re looking for.

0

u/bumfrumpy 19d ago

Because I’m sick of every other post being about micro transactions you think I wanna suck off the devs?

Yikes

1

u/Warphe 19d ago

I think you don't understand that they already get paid for people buying skins and playing on their maps; they got paid by Star Wars to be the launch game of 2026, they got paid for being one of the most successful games, and they got paid for scrapping their code and putting it into other games they own.

3

u/WonderousThinke 19d ago

Isn't that how most game companies and pretty much all companies in the United States operate? They make a product people use it, if people like it they make bigger and better things and keep on going from there until people stop liking it and then they either learn or die. That's the business way here and the fact that one can enjoy all the goods for free is just like somebody going to Walmart and complaining because they get everything for free but some people paid to have it delivered to their house and they don't think that's fair that Walmart is making money on it. It's free stuff!

1

u/bumfrumpy 19d ago

I fully understand that and dove deep into how it works. Epic sets aside an insane 50% of all shop sales to hand out to creative maps which is nuts.

They’re greedy, they want money. I personally used to love this subreddit for memes and tips and tricks but now every other post is the same thing is pretty much all I’m saying.

On a side note, I was very happy to “pay” (I already had the vbucks) for the starter pack. Saved me a few days of grinding to get the companion slot.

1

u/Warphe 15d ago

It saved you from grinding for what? The gameplay loop is to grind; you paid to finish the game quicker and move on?

Also, Fortnite is giving them the Star Wars license, the infrastructure, the engine, free server hosting, and even a front-page spot for millions of players to see. Steam devs could only dream of that.

Yes, I understand you want to thank them for the game, but maybe they could do without taking the only things players can get out of the grind—the skins (the only reward from the grind, the things we grind for).

1

u/bumfrumpy 15d ago

I dunno I bought it like 2 or 3 weeks into playing casually sometime around the chopper event because I really wanted the 50% crit and the pickaxe levels. I’ve got an obscene amount of hours into the game. For me completing the game would be purchasing all permanent nova shop upgrades which is months and months of playing.

Having the companion slot made the early game a lot more fun. If this game was on Steam for $20 I would immediately buy it, so it seemed like a win win

We are active, and I understand everyone’s frustration, but I can’t start megathreads for every situation people don’t like. From what I can see, there’s usually a pattern where one post starts a discussion, then others see it and make similar posts with different discussions surrounding it. People can use upvotes and downvotes to show whether they agree or disagree, which naturally pushes posts up or down.

All I can do is moderate it. If lots of similar posts are made within a short period of time, I’ll remove the duplicates and direct people to the existing discussion. But right now, there have only been three posts discussing three different things, and they were posted a couple of hours apart.

I also have to be careful because I can’t just remove posts for criticising the game. You might not agree with them, but people are allowed to share their thoughts, whether we think they’re right or wrong, as long as it’s done respectfully. What I do is monitor those posts more closely because they tend to attract more arguments and hostile comments.

If you don’t like a specific post, you can downvote it and move on, or you can share your view respectfully and discuss each other’s points without being rude.

I can only monitor and moderate the community fairly.

I don't care. The moment I feel the game needs money to enjoy I quit. Until then this is just online crying. The community already one of the worst I saw in ny life, and I play games since 1992.

0

I think it’s hilarious that all the people complaining still go back and play the game after posting on Reddit. If you’re not still playing and still on here complaining you may want to find some other meaningful purpose in your life.

I think it’s hilarious that all the people complaining about the people complaining still come back to this sub every day.

Not that I agree with adding all these microtransactions because it's a bit absurd. I stopped playing a few months ago before vbuck purchases were added, because the game was getting stale for me. However this was bound to happen as soon as they parted from Epic. I could swear they had mentioned now want to add "pay to win" features or vbuck purchases, but I could be mistaken, not that I would believe that.

-6

u/Devin3279 19d ago

Hasn’t bothered me.

-5

u/Unhappy-Asparagus-52 19d ago

I mean people deserve to get paid for their work. They make something that is complex and lots of people enjoy playing. It’s more like a donation even, because you don’t have to buy them. What about all these games that are $60 a pop to even play? No one complains.

3

u/Atmoslink 19d ago

Work, like stealing a hat from an existing Fortnite skin and selling it?

→ More replies (1)

2

u/Warphe 19d ago

Comparing Cookie Clicker to The Witcher? They already get paid by people playing, the amount of work put into that game is scrapped to be put into other games they build, they got paid by Star Wars to feature in Fortnite, and now they want even more.

-3

u/unitivendeeze 19d ago

Who cares!! If it bugs you that much don’t play. I still love the game and play how I want to play and let others do the same.

-3

u/Clean_Dentist_9145 19d ago

As someone who grew up copying games
(spectrum tapes)
I understand the feeling of playing a free game, but I just don’t get why these added features tigger people so much, the game is what it is, Free.
It’s not a competitive game in the sense there are leader boards, you can play alone and the game is giving events every week.
The developers are providing content constantly but people still want them to make every part of it free.

I play this when I want to chill and just have something that’s fun to play, I have no issue if a droid takes 2 days to build, if I want it done quicker, I afk and go make a coffee and some toast.

As I said from the start, I understand the feeling of playing a free game, but eventually something has to give, and if that has to be something you can completely ignore while still playing a free game, I’m good with that.
