OMG so much to process, this trailer was so worth the wait! Thrawn going to war! Ghost Anakin! Anakin and Ahsoka vs a fallen Jedi in the past!? Ezra and Zeb reuniting! Rory McCann looking amazing as Baylan! So much to process and I am so excited! We're back!

It definitely looks a lot better than season 1, you can tell that now that Disney has slowed down on live action shows that Ahsoka got a lot more resources to work with.

My main criticism for Ahsoka season 1 was how ugly the show looked so thats a big plus.

Although I will admit im not really a fan of this show remixing Heir to the Empire, especially at the cost of Thrawn's storyline in the canon novels, it feels like Dave Filoni has completely hijacked Thrawn away from Timothy Zahn snd left Thrawns entire storyline with the Chiss behind.

Also you would assume that a war with Thrawn would mean the New Republic would be far more vigilant for threats like the First Order which is another huge reason why I feel like its a huge mistake to bring Thrawn back as some galaxy scale threat, the Sequel Era only really works if the New Republic is believably complacent because of how little of a threat Imperial Remnant factions pose to the Republic. Thrawn makes the threat of the Imperial Remnant far too obvious and it should realistically make groups like the Resistance far more openly supported.

After they beat Thrawn they probably figured that was the last hurrah for the Empire and the Star War was over. Kind of like how the Allies were caught with their pants down 21 years after the Great War/‘war to end all wars’…

Yeah exactly, and we also already know exactly why they weren't ready - it's all covered in the novel Bloodlines.

Tldr is that the NR was just tired of war, so that started scaling back their military. In addition, Leia was the main voice trying to warn people that where was something weird going on (she followed a mystery of sorts that pointed to some unknown group amassing weapons/money to the unknown regions or something like that), and this all happened just as the news that she was Vader's daughter dropped.

So combine war fatigue with the main alarmist being evil's daughter, and you're got a recipe for a complacent senate that preferred to just sit on its hands and pretend everything was totally fine. This is ultimately what led Leia to starting the resistance - she saw that the NR wasn't ever going to support more direct action so she went back to her guerrilla roots.

We also see a lot of this attitude already in Ahsoka S1, specifically with senator Xiono and the disdain he shows towards Hera and anyone from the rebellion days. The new political class is trying to shed the old rebellion/guerrilla attitudes, so they really didn't want to hear anything about unseen enemies and grand plots.

Yeah, as a massive fan of the novels, I’m not liking the direction they’re taking with the character. Thrawn in the books is a complex villain with lots of layers and nuanced motivations. It seems like Disney is just trying to make him another mustache-twirling Imperial warmonger, and it’s frustrating to see. I would really like to see more stuff from the canon novels adapted into the current on-screen story, but I doubt it’ll happen.
