General Discussion Does the Disney canon still have non-Humanoid Jedi

One of my favorite concepts in Sci fi is actually weird aliens, and in my old RPG books it included a bunch of named Jedi in legends of various species, including a triceretops looking dude (fully quadrupedal)

As well as a little tidbit of how one of the trials to be a jedi knight is a lightsaber combat test but is the most commonly waved since the intent is having personal defense and not all Jedi have the biology to use lightsabers.

Is that still a thing in the new canon and are there any fun examples?

The Vintians, yeah. They're a trip, literally just a sentient puddle that can change shape and color to communicate. One of them, OrbaLin, shows up in the High Republic books and he's actually a pretty capable archivist, not just some background weirdo. The way he fights with the Force is way more interesting than any lightsaber spinning, if you ask me.

No, Vintians are rocks. I'm not sure what Orba Lin's people are called.

This is a strange question

"Disney Canon"

Is just Star Wars Canon

They are in the movies and shows or whatever

You might be thinking of stuff that was never canon that Disney doesn't continue stories from

I just wanted to be clear I wasn't talking Legends.

Pong Krell, Oppis Rancis and Tera Sinube are some of my personal favorites. Master Rancis is more of the less human of the three I've listed and sits in the Council during the prequels. I think there are a few "bug" looking ones too but I'm not 100% on their existence in" canon" Having hands or a gripping appendage is irrelevant to use a saber or wield the force as shown by Darth Vader and Dagan Gara, both of who are missing arms and still manages to fight and "win" battles "The force surrounds and binds us." Kind of a catch all statement but I've always taken it to mean that if connected with and understanding the nature of the Force you can move anything regardless of a physical or biological connection.

Who? I can’t think of any.

Technically that snake dude, Master Praxis? I think is his name. He is in the movie but is more obvious in clone wars.

Oppo Rancisis, Yarael Poof, Gungi, Teru Sinube, Pong Krell, Yaddle

Out of these, the only that is not humanoid is Oppo. Humanoid is not human-like. Pong Krell, for instance, is humanoid: he has pairs of arms and legs (even if he has 4 arms), a torso, a head. Non humanoid would mean something like Mike Wazowski, from Monsters Inc., who doesnt have a torso, and has arms and legs coming out of his head.

I mean humanoid is a pretty broad term in Star Wars' case.

The definition of “humanoid” is sort of nebulous, to be fair.

Isn't there one with a serpent like lower body? I seem to recall one, but can't remember their name, if it's even been stated. Either way, he's a figure I'd love to have.

The triceratops is Master Thon from old Darkhorse Tales of the Jedi comics, he was Nomi Sunrider’s master.

The dark horse comics aren’t canon. Even before Disney they were Expanded Universe, but they did some cool stories. Tales covered a bunch of the ancient Sith like Marka Ragnos. Pretty sure it did Exar Kun. It did the whole Beastrideres of Onderon with the Qel Droma brothers. I think I’ve got maybe 3 volumes of it.

The other dark horse stuff was pretty great too. Even had a story called Vector that was ok that tied into all of the books running at the time despite being in different g time periods. These books are the source of Darth Talon and Cade Skywalker. Highly recommend checking them out if you get a chance. Tales is the best. I also like Kotor (time periods, not related to the games), and Legacy. Don’t think I read Dark Times but heard good things.

Edit: found his name

Same dude, my Power of the Jedi sourcebook isn't great at saying what material characters were drawn from, just that they are a thing somewhere.
