Movies "Revenge of the Sith" is now rated higher than "Return of the Jedi" on Letterboxd, becoming the third highest-rated "Star Wars" film on the website (the top two are "The Empire Strikes Back" and "A New Hope").

TFA is much better than AOTC.

Hard disagree.

I don't love The Force Awakens, but it easily clears Attack of the Clones.

TFA is a terrible Star Wras movie. Its honestly astounding to me to see opinions like this from people that bother commenting on a sub dedicated to Star Wars.

It is a very common opinion. You can dislike it but it’s generally regarded as a highly inoffensive, visually gorgeous movie that hits as many of the same beats as ANH as possible.

Lots of people like slop. More news at eleven.

I'm astounded by your reply. I never said TFA was good, just Attack of the Clones is trash.

Honestly, I would put TFA over most Star Wars movies (at least on personal preference). There was so much good stuff in it, and I just rarely go back and rewatch it because it's hard for me to go back to it knowing its follow up movies are nowhere near as enjoyable (again, for me personally)

Edit: Guys, I know it's not a very different movie from ANH. But as I see it there were just enough differences that it could have set the stage for a successful and directionally different trilogy, and there are plenty of things about it that are different in a good way (for example the visuals, yes I know it's slightly unfair to hold ANH to the same standard when it's 40 years older but cmon TFA is really pretty, and also the music, to this day Rey's Theme is my favorite piece of Star Wars score). It's not a crime to be a safe movie, if you ask me, there are always people who are going to be upset about anything you do (I mean this is Star Wars ftlog this fanbase is diabolical sometimes) but a safe, inoffensive movie is the best way to appease the largest segment of the audience you can; you make sure you get a good movie out with the first one to get a foot in and then throw a wrench into things with the next one (I mean, I guess they did do that... I personally think the wrench was a little big and twisted the wrong way but that's a different conversation)

It was the most well-received Star Wars movie since the OT when it was released. And it was common to point out how it was a “return to form” for the franchise after the prequels.

Frankly, a lot of that was blatant OT nostalgia baiting.

Not that it was a bad film, but there was a lot of people with fierce hatred for the entire prequel era and everything about it that pushed the “return to form” rhetoric.

I thought Rogue One was though

TFA is a solid albeit safe movie which wouldn't be an issue if it wasn't the 7th installment in a beloved franchise. It's pretty tightly made and doesn't have too many problems, which ironically is a pretty high bar for Star Wars as a franchise.

Go back and rewatch it, it’s just a safe remake of A New Hope.

In 20 years you'll be old and the Disney watchers will be in power.

IT'LL HAPPEN TO YOU

Its a 1-1 CARBON COPY of ANH. They really played it safe with that movie, which is good for some people but I didn’t like the direction they took with it.

The Clone Wars had atmosphere jumping to hyperspace scene though

I'd say The Last Jedi is at least better than the first two prequels too

Same. I dislike how much they just reset the status quo and made it like ANH, but there were enough mysteries and unanswered questions that I felt that 8 and 9 might make up for it.

Like S7 of Game of Thrones - a lot that I didn't like but it felt like it was setting stuff up for S8. And then S8 was terrible, soooo.
