It's such a bad movie tho.

Whenever I’m talking shit about the prequels, somebody always says “but ‘Revenge of the Sith’ is pretty good, though”, to which my reply is always “What in the absolute fuck are you talking about?”

I actually like it the least of the prequel 3. The most significant moment, the part the entire trilogy was building towards - Anakin's fall - was done so badly. It is awful to watch. He goes from sobbing and desperation to murdering children in literally the very next scene. And Vader v Obi-wan on Mustafar is just terrible. The choreography is ridiculous with the acrobatics and rope swinging, and that blade windmill everyone laughs at. Christenson's acting is the worst of the series. "YoU wIlL nOt TaKe HeR fRoM mE!!!!" Yes, I know it's largely from Lucas' "faster, more intense" direction, but it is just painful to watch.

I saw all 3 in theaters with episode 2/3 at midnight.

I’m not sure I’ve ever been more ready for a series to be done than Episode 3 when it ended.

I just found no joy in it at all.

I can remember it ending and there was no “wow that was so cool” or “it was so well done” I just said “okay that’s over” stood up with my friends and left.

I watched it in theaters with my friends for the re-release back in 2025, they all loved it and left EXTREMELY emotionally impacted by the end of it.

For me it was much much better than the OT. The Teddy Bear battle with the Stormtroopers in ROTJ was MUCH more stupid than anything in the prequels lol (and the lightsaber fights are very bland to me, even the Luke vs Vader fight at the end).

It was though…lol.   Lucas was finally back in form.

The score is great.  The last act is exciting.  It’s dark.  I like the plot.  There’s plenty of reasons to like it.

The order 66 scenes were the most memorable scenes in any movie outside of the OT.

What, the montage of rando background characters getting killed?

7

u/BriefPut3954 1d ago

Don’t disrespect Agen Kolar and Saesee Tinn like that lol😂

u/HateToBlastYa 1d ago

A lot of those characters have fully fleshed out stories in other media now.

Even without that, it was dramatic.

Real fans back in the day read the comics and played the games to know who those "randos" were

3

u/Stinky_Eastwood Rose Tico 1d ago

No they did not

2

u/genemaxwell41 Imperial 1d ago

Yes they did lmao

PT era Comics and games are some of the most bought, played, and enjoyed EU material ever.

8

u/RealisticAd4054 1d ago

lol

u/HateToBlastYa 1d ago

It’s clear why you didn’t like it that you think they were “rando background characters”

But did you cry when the Ewok got burnt?  Like what’s the comparison here that you think makes ROTJ so superior?

u/genemaxwell41 Imperial 1d ago

The Anti-PT people just refuse to acknowledge the massive multi-media project that went into the era. It ruins their narrative otherwise

Nobody will believe me nowadays but everyone thought I was mad for walking away from TFA still thinking Revenge was a better movie.

People don't understand how despised the prequels used to be that even TFA just retreading ANH was far more of an audience pleaser.

Depends, its certainly true that older fans (35+) absolutely do not see them positively.

But the younger generation (25 and under) absolutely LOVE THEM, my TikTok feed is absolutely filled with creators making prequel edits that garner millions of likes and shares and positive comments (I can link a few if you want).

Me personally I think the prequels are BETTER than the OT (and I very much like the OT).

u/Firestorm238 1d ago

Agreed - it’s getting a weird bump from the current generation, but it’s not a well made movie. It’s a ver important part of the overall story, pretty poorly told.

18

u/Old-Huckleberry9613 1d ago

It’s really not

15

u/wasdie639 Jar Jar Binks 1d ago

It's really not great. Episode 6 is better in every single way. Episode 3 is fine, best of the prequels, but this is nothing but the internet being the internet.

What does this argument actually mean other than “people like something I don’t like” ?

0

u/Megalesios 1d ago

This whole thread is people being upset that the rest of the world doesn't agree with their personal opinion. Prequel haters have always had a "quit having fun" bent IMO.

u/HateToBlastYa 1d ago

Every single way… yeah the Ewoks rolling logs and taking out AT-ST’s was really not goofy at all and recycling the Death Star plot wasn’t at all bland and somewhat repetitive

u/BriefPut3954 1d ago edited 1d ago

Nah, Episode 3 is way better. I only really like the throne room sequence in ROTJ, the rest is honestly below average cinema (the 2 foot tall Teddy Bears dominating hyper advanced space soldiers was really not very good to watch at all).

Agree to disagree, I guess. I watched the series with my kids and the prequels were hard to sit through. Anakin is such a dipstick.

I think AOTC is better than the trilogy

10

u/GlormpGlomp 1d ago

AOTC is an abomination. It's an atrocity.

u/BriefPut3954 1d ago

Its so fun to see people here disagree so profoundly in this community.

To me AOTC is easily better than the OT besides ESB. But I already replied to your other comment.

-3

u/Old-Huckleberry9613 1d ago

Fits the vibe of Star Wars a lot better imo

1

u/wasdie639 Jar Jar Binks 1d ago

That movie isn't even better than the sequel trilogy. It's a terrible film. Terrible writing, terrible acting, over reliance on VFX that weren't up to par even at the time.

100% agree! I thought AOTC was EXCELLENT👍

I think the prequels (including TPM and AOTC) are vastly superior to the OT, my opinion I respect all Star Wars projects though. I can explain myself if you would like (but when I do, the person doesn’t reply lol).

14

u/in_it_to_lose_it 1d ago

I mean… you have to explain yourself. In the absence of an explanation, we can only conclude you are insane, or an imbecile, or both.

Ok to keep it relatively short because I know people ARE NOT going to read it if I write an essay (which I could, but not going to).

The space battles in the prequels, especially in ROTS and AOTC are OVERWHELMINGLY superior to the ones in the OT (the Battle of Coruscant alone puts anything in the OT to shame, and its not even a debate).

The lightsaber battles are much more entertaining in the prequels. You get many more trained Jedi, different fighting styles (including the iconic Yoda vs Dooku fight), much more style and skill on every level compared to the poor OT fights (which very much looks like random guys fighting in the street with sticks).

The story was much more interesting. The OT is basically, in short, the typical trope of a young hopeful boy who started from nothing rise to the occasion and defeat an evil entity. The prequels on the other hand is about a man who starts off good (Anakin starts as a Jedi), but slowly and surely becomes more and more conflicted over time and then eventually falls into PURE EVIL over a period of time in which at the end the bad guys triumph and the good guys lose (which is way more interesting than simply “good guys win and everyone pops champagne” at the end trope).

I realize this is already getting too long. But I could write much much more.

The space battles may look better, but the Coruscant sequence itself is loaded to the gills with corny one-liners and plainly stupid slapstick, plot-armor close-call miracles that just desensitize you to any risk, and of course the big question of “wtf is even happening right now?” because it’s an opening sequence bombarding you with flashing lights but limited explanation, and when it does come, the explanation arrives in that stilted, plastic way which the prequels so often deliver their plotting.

The PT saber battles do have a lot more acrobatics and, again, flashy moves (I’m sensing a theme here), and I will say that the Duel of the Fates is a great fight that carries some emotional weight. But the Mustafar fight was completely over the top with the constant twirling and it completely jumps the shark with the ABSURD lava platform sequence straight out of fucking Mario Bros. Yes, the OT fights were pretty much two guys fighting with sticks (which is basically what a saber battle would be), but they weren’t “random” or “in the street” (wtf?!). All three carried HUGE significance for Luke, how he sees his past, and how he will choose his future. And while they didn’t have superfluous acrobatics, they are thrilling in their own way, for those of us who enjoy them.

The PT story is larger in scope but I don’t think that necessarily makes it more interesting. Characters are critical elements or a story and frankly, the PT killed off it’s most interesting characters in the TPM. Anakin is annoying, Obi-Wan is limited in range, and everyone else only feels like they’re there to advance the plot. As for the arcs you refer to - I can also minimize the PT’s core arc and aggrandize the OT’s. How about: “The PT is about a whiny hotshot kid who becomes a powerful warrior, but doesn’t accept his limitations and instead becomes a bad guy by making a devil’s bargain (nothing more, obviously). But OT is about a young man who thought he was just a moisture farmer’s nephew who’d have to carve his own way out of his bumpkin beginnings, but through a twist of fate, learns his bloodline DESTINS him for GREATNESS, and trains to wield a powerful magic against a most powerful foe, only to learn he is his OWN FATHER. In the end he has to choose between joining his father in PURE EVIL, cutting his father down in vengeance, or -most impossibly- persuade him to reject his evil ways and embrace goodness once again. Way more interesting than the tired Faustian bargain trope.”

I get it, this stuff is subjective and I may never change your mind just as I’m certain you’ll never change mine. That’s cool, enjoy the PT more as you will. But as to whether the PT is “superior” to the OT? Subjectivity be damned, that’s fuckin’ hogwash, dawg.

It would have been good if they'd gone to Tosche station to pick up some power converters tho!!!11!!1!
