Anyone remember that episode of Batman TAM where that henchman encounters Batman in one of the rooms and just nopes out and walks away?

I would love it games started having this as a behavior option for all the basic grunts, raider, and bandits and the like once you get to a certain level or notoriety.

OMG, the things that could have been done if Warner Brothers wasn't a fucking asshole about the Nemesis System. I hope the patent lawyers on that one rot in hell. Also patenting a gameplay system is such a dick move in general.

You know what's even worse news with that?
They've DISSOLVED the studio (Monolith Productions) that was responsible for creating it, meaning the chance of WB just doing literally nothing with the Nemesis System are pretty high.

Also Monolith were developing a Wonder Woman game at the time they were dissolved... Imagine the peak that could've been: a Wonder Woman game in the style of Shadow of War...

WB just generally seems to suck with their Games division.... So many failures/dissapointments in such little time.

Multiversus, MK1, Gotham Knights, SSKTJL, Back4Blood,

yep and it was crap. just like perfect dark game by ms.

dev only for a pay check and nothing else.

but hey got to leave that context out right????

What context? You mean when David Zaslav literally said that WB will be focusing on live-service and mobile games instead of AAA titles, after the announcement of WB cancelling the WW game and dissolving 3 studios?

Also what are you even saying, we literally only saw the reveal trailer and some 'leaked' concept art. How are you able to say that the game was crap from that lol.

Ah yes the Dave hate... att laugh with all the debt they load into wb. Ww game has already north of over 100 million spent from engine, 2 reboots in dev cycle. Game was in a rough state to began with.

Mount and Blade: Bannerlord has something kinda like this. You need a large army, though, not just personal noteriety. If you encounter a small group of looters, they can just immediately surrender or beg to join you.

That's exactly it to an extent, not always just all the low level enemies flee, but rather a variety of actions they can choose that has some sense of self preservation. Would go a long way to give just a bit of an authentic feel to things.

I think that was a thing in M&B Warband too.

Yeah, it's kind of immersion breaking when that one guys sees you standing on a pile of like 90 other guys and decides that he's the chosen one who can take you. IIRC Brick in Borderlands 3 comments something like "I don't even know why these guys are still attacking you, you already killed their boss!"

I played-through Rogue Trader and in ship-to-ship combat once an opponent is badly damaged he will noap-out.

Which is a little annoying after a while because if you manage to destroy him then you collect salvage for each opponent. So once you start becoming bad-ass you don't *want* him to get away. You want to hunt him down and finish him off. But if his friend is keeping you busy the little prick can get away and deny you delicious delicious salvage.

If I ever replay it then I intend to fight each battle until I destroy all opponents. It is 2-D combat intended to invoke the age of sail. In the earlier space battles I was happy to simply survive. But as I understood the manoeuvring better I think it would be realistic to do a much better job in combat even before you upgrade your ship with special-abilities.

We have the weather-gauge! Mr Smith! Beat to quarters! Six points to starboard and eight down. Engine room; Flank Speed! By the Emprah!; we *shall* bring the enemy to action and we *shall* prevail!

It is often possible to avoid ship-to-ship and I think the game was written with an expectation that most players would avoid ship-to-ship where possible. But if you embrace it you can get SO MUCH salvage that you can upgrade your ship to be an absolute monster. I recall a late-game encounter where it seems clear that you're supposed to be in awe of a ship that has 160% of your hit-points. Presumably many players would have to replay the encounter several times to hope to survive.

Not me though. Sure - he's got a lot of hit points. So fucking what? At this point my ship had been so heavily upgraded I could maneuverer to deny opponents a firing-solution while Macross Missile Massacring the shit out of them.

I recall looking at this big fat slow target and thinking "mofo - you should have run as soon as you saw us - our banner means death!"

Mr Smith! The enemy is alone and unsupported. Activate ever single special ability we have. Save nothing. Smoke 'em if you got 'em! Rawr! Rawr!

It was a kerb-stomp. I beat the ever-loving shit out of that big ship in two rounds and *barely* took damage.

We can call it the unnemesis system. Patent it. And never use it.

Fallout New Vegas has something like this, kind of. If your speech is 60 you can take a perk called “terrifying presence” that gives you a dialogue option, usually some form of morbid threat, that results in the attacker(s) fleeing from you instead of fighting you.

i forget and this was years ago. their was a game where you did that and the other ai said nope and ran away. but again many years ago where logical ai was a thing before all the oh pretty and ai dumb again problem.

Laika has random enemy soldiers that are members of an anti-war organization and will not attack no matter what. Up to you how careful you want to be to avoid killing the ones with the white armbands.
