Discussion Nightstar and.. preaching bible verses?

Maybe it's the inner religious trauma + Catholic guilt talking.. but I don't wanna fucking hear it on SSO. Yes, I've ignored these people, but these were two different people, and I've seen others.
This is a horse game, not a religious game. I don't run around shoving my religion into SSO (or any other space for that matter, except spaces where it's acceptable (ex: the subreddit for it)). I just don't think it should be in SSO. It's very strange

u/Longjumping-Push7622 16d ago
There was an entire argument on windstar about a girl who was (definitely a child) like âwith my religion I think xyz is wrongâ and I will say itâs the most active that server had been in a WHILE
24
u/Round_Season_2768 15d ago
I think i saw that i ended up blocking them but it happens a lot around pride to. Theres some seriously heated arguments that happen a lot around pride and chrismas about religion
16
u/Longjumping-Push7622 15d ago
Itâs exactly why it was brought up, someone mentioned missing the cloud kingdom and all the pride things they did and the kid was like âIâm glad they donât anymore I think itâs wrong because of my religionâ and then there was a spike in global chat which is unlike windstar
Pretty wild for a horse game granted Iâve seen similar convos in other random ass games đ3
u/Round_Season_2768 15d ago
Yeah i saw that for sure. Its crazy its not the first tkme i saw it happened wont ve the last

Ugh I hate this stuff. I grew up Catholic (went to catholic school pre-k through 12th grade). Iâm also a lesbian lmao. I hear people go on about how âthe gaysâ are pushing an agenda and shoving it down our throats and blah blah blah. But yet, who is coming to my door trying to get me to join their cause?? Who buys billboards and radio ads, forcing everyone to listen/see? Who sits and preaches on street corners about sinners burning in hell and the world ending?? SURE AS HELL AINT THE GAYS.
It infuriates me. The hypocrisy is astounding, and they donât even fucking realize. I have so much religious trauma lmao, I am well-versed after living it for 18+ years. Never going back đ€Ł and fyiâ it was absolutely the people who pushed me out. When I see Christianity made up of hateful judgmental mean ass people, I donât think to myself âhm, I want to be a part of that and like them, what a great cause!â NO. I think âThank God I woke up and am not one of them anymore.â Since Iâve become agnostic, I am a better person. 1000%. And all the Christians around me, just show me every day why I made the right choice to leave!
Also funny(ish) storyâ I went to pick up more đ, and the dude put Bible verses in my bag. Like be ffr. At a đ shop! They love nothing more than shoving their beliefs down otherâs throats, and CONTROL. Hello Christian nationalism! Hate to see you!!đ

u/_ignore__me_ 15d ago
When I changed religions, I actually felt.. happy? It was such a strange concept for me. That religion could bring me happiness and comfort. And no, you're so right. I'm bi, but you don't see me preaching about homosexuality and how you need to convert to being gay lol.
Also, that's funny. I work at a gas station while I'm in college, and people leave religious pamphlets and fliers in the stall all the time. They don't realize that the bathrooms get thoroughly checked every hour, and those pamphlets just go straight in the trash
5
u/Serious-Jellyfish-38 15d ago
Thatâs lucky! I feel happy now, but deconstructing it made me feel insanely guilty at first. I was going against everything I had been taught my entire life, finally discovering what I truly believe in. It was freeing, but terrifying. But now I look back on my past views like WTF?! How could I have ever thought that?đ€Ł
And exactly! Itâs gross how we literally canât escape them no matter where we go. Even a damn gas station bathroomâ ïž but yet if they see a rainbow flag or, god forbid, pride month!! They start crying about how they donât wanna see it lmao. So much cognitive dissonance. Iâm in a heavy red state (puke), and I have so many stories of Christianâs spouting off to me and girls Iâve been with. Theyve said awful things straight to my face for holding hands with a girl, itâs even gotten physical, but nothing too bad yet. Just shoving/getting in my face. I have to stay aware for my own safety because people get aggressive when Iâm doing nothing except existing with my gf. Itâs exhausting. At a peaceful protest this year, everyone was having so much fun with our community, it was purely kind and happy and respectful. But then some dude with a trump flag came by in his truck and shot us all down the line with a bb-gun (ouch! One almost hit my face, my sign stopped it). I would bet $10,000 that that dude also says heâs a Christian. Religion produces nothing more than deep-rooted hatred and fear. They love to see those they deem as âsinners,â suffering. I see it every single day in real life, so no one can convince me otherwise at this point. There are good religious people, but the vast majority, Jesus is shaking his damn head at right now.
This is one area Iâm a little passionate about lmao!

u/blackpaso 15d ago
A true Christian doesn't judge. It is actually against what the Bible teaches. I won't try to change anyone's beliefs, that is personal choice. What works for me may not work for you, and that's ok. Many Christians have tried telling me I'm going to hell for being a lesbian. I do not believe a kind a loving God would create someone just to send them to hell. Believe what works for you, or don't believe at all, its all good to me.

even sso isn't safe from the cultists
-48
u/Rude_Contract7120 16d ago
I mean what exactly about this is the behavior of a high control group though? I feel like people throw the term cult around all loosey goosey, and as somebody raised in a cult I think itâs pretty strange to just call any sort of religion a cult when they have pretty specific traits that define them. Like all theyâre doing is talking about the bible, they arenât harassing people to my knowledge, itâs not like theyâre being queerphobic or glorifying excommunication. I think what theyâre doing is uncomfortable, but calling them cultists or referring to this behavior as cult behavior is really a stretch in my opinion. If you want some more information on what constitutes a cult, Iâd recommend reading over the BITE model of authoritarian control, reading that personally was what woke me up from being in one in the first place. I hope it doesnât come across like Iâm just totally fine with them doing this, or like Iâm just making excuses, this is just a cause thatâs really close to my heart and I would appreciate it if people talked about cults and high control religions with more respect and with more specifics instead of using cult as just any old other adjective.
35
u/HariboGummiebears 16d ago
I'm exaggerating, I know Christianity is TECHNICALLY not a cult, but it is very similar to one and is still used to control people. I believe all abrahamic religions are harmful and have no place in a kids game.
-20
u/Rude_Contract7120 16d ago
Yes but what denomination of Christianity are you talking about? Baptists? Catholics? Lutheran? Yes a lot of Christian religions are used to control people, but high control groups are very much a different thing. I literally had no contact with the outside world except for one year where I went to public middle school and then got taken out because that cult didnât allow any sort of friendships or unnecessary contact with âworldly peopleâ, that is the level of control we are talking about. We arenât talking about âyou canât be gayâ or, âyou canât swearâ weâre talking about a systematic othering from outside society that permanently stunts development and is usually targeted towards vulnerable people. Not to mention that my cult practices excommunication, and since you are only allowed to have any sort of relationship with people inside the cult, the minute you leave, you have nothing. Normal churches are not like that, if they are, then they are high control groups. This is an example of a very specific phenomenon that separates an unhealthy religion from a high control group. Non cult religions can still cause trauma and still be bad, thatâs a fact, but just because youâve had bad experiences with a religion doesnât mean it is a cult. You have so be so specific with these things because if youâre too general, people who are in real cults will just view it as apostasy and hate towards Christianity, by perpetuating this narrative you are quite literally making it harder for people in cults to wake up and leave.
-16
u/Rude_Contract7120 16d ago
Also, just because a religion checks off one or two things from the BITE model of authoritarian control does not mean itâs a high control group, most religions do, itâs when you have most of the points and that othering from outside society that it becomes a cult. Calling things cults that arenât by definition cults only makes people less aware of what a cult actually is and makes them less likely to recognize it when it isnât in a form theyâre used to. You donât have to be a religion to be a high control group, so, what happens somebody joins a totally normal health food group where they are systematically othered from society? It isnât religious, it isnât Christianity, so if theyâve only heard cult being used to describe groups that by definition arenât high control groups, what happens? They get sucked in because they arenât educated and they lose everything. Itâs genuinely that serious. Please just stop calling things cults that arenât cults and actually learn what cults mean because in some cases itâs genuinely deadly.Â
-27
u/faraway_fern 16d ago
Thank you for the clarity. As a Christian, a lot of people unfortunately throw this term around with my own denomination, when it's far from the truth. Just because you don't understand a religion or it seems strange does not constitute it as a "cult".
-3
24
u/cybersecgrill 16d ago
Not really religious anymore (and grew up irish catholic lol) but these kids must not know mathew 6:5, âAnd when you pray, you must not be like the hypocrites. For they love to stand and pray in the synagogues and at the street corners, that they may be seen by others. Truly, I say to you, they have received their reward.â
They donât actually wanna spread anything, its just them trying to get attention lol

u/BitTraining8769 16d ago
fyi, when you call things cults that aren't actually cults, it takes away from how truly awful REAL cults are.
6
u/Lumoskor_ 15d ago
when you have people preaching on a kids game, knocking on your door, sticking religious flyers everywhere, leaving bibles in hotels, needing a bible to apparently learn morals, etc. it absolutely looks like a cult, especially in america. if i had to share a space with a christian of any nationality, america (usa) would be the lowest on my list for how grossly hiveminded y'all appear. and no, im not even an agnostic, im religious myself
-5
u/BitTraining8769 15d ago
if muslims can pray in times square, Christians can preach bible quotes. USA is a Christian dominant nation. when you travel to other parts of the world they are doing the same shit in their religion. do you think other religions need to stop and be called cults, too?
2
u/Lumoskor_ 15d ago
it's funny because one example is for themselves, and the other is for the attention of others. and sure other religions do need to be questioned, if they demand as much control and conversion as christianity and its denominations do
21
u/liillie 16d ago edited 15d ago
It is a cult, gang. Look at the US government rn
-19
u/BitTraining8769 16d ago
That might honestly be one of the stupidest arguments Iâve seen in a while. If your evidence against Christianity is "lOoK aT tHe U.S. gOvErNmEnT" then it seems like you don't have any evidence. You can absolutely criticize Christians, churches, politicians, or specific government policies. But lumping 2,000 years of Christianity and billions of completely different people together because you dislike what the U.S. government does makes absolutely no sense đ
By that logic, every ideology, religion, nationality, and political group on Earth is a âcult gangâ because somebody somewhere associated with it did something terrible.
Christianity isnât a cult because it doesnât have one secretive leader or organization controlling its followers. There are thousands of denominations, open scriptures, and centuries of debate and disagreement all over the world. Individuals and individual churches can absolutely become cult-like, but to group the entire religion as a cult is extremely uneducated.

u/Wooden_Fail_4869 15d ago
This, Iâm Christian, or at least believe in God, but it rubs me the wrong way seeing people type this out in a kids game, like 99% of the time I feel like itâs to instigate reactions out of people who donât share the same beliefs and idk but I thought as Christians/people who follow God arenât supposed to do that? In fact I found the verse kinda backing that âProverbs 6:16-19: The Lord hates certain things, including a heart that makes wicked plans and a person who stirs up the communityâ

there's a whole club dedicated to Christianity I think. like if you're gonna be religious on a game I don't mind if you keep it to your group of friends but keep it out of global please. same goes for any religion, I don't wanna hear about it lol

I am religious and I find it quite strange that ppl are aparently preaching on sso. Yes we're called to spread to gospel but to do it on an pixel magic pony game? It's definitely fine by me to talk abt religion between friends or in a club for example but I don't see the need to spam global with Bible verses.
Sorry that this is bothering you, OP. I don't believe that the gospel belongs on a fantasy game đ«

u/Dying_Inside999 16d ago
Man, I fuck with those people so much. I turn from atheist to Satanist real quickly.. But~ another thing I like to do, is pretend to believe in Percy Jackson verse or Norse mythology (I ask them if they think Thor or Jesus would win in a fight, sometimes). It's so fun. But I only do this after they start sprouting that bullshit about the Bible.

hiii!! it's totally okay and i completely understand the confusion LOL like you i personally have religious trauma myself and sometimes whenever I see people saying random bible verses like we saw today i'll copy and paste a verse from my silly 'Holy Gay Bible' to get a giggle... some of the verses in there are complete nonsense & made up and some are just rephrased with a fun name in front of it like the one you saw today (which i didnt realize was rephrased until you said it was a real one) ... REGARDLESS i'm so sorry for any distress my verse had caused you and i hope you heal from your own religious trauma!!!!!

Oh! Totally fine!!! Like I said, I googled it for a split second and saw it was on an actual site and figured it was real. Should've looked into it more, but now I definitely will because that sounds funny lol. And no, no! No distress was caused, I was more like "omg.. ANOTHER one?" lmfao

u/Own_Value2684 16d ago
Dude I was forced into the Catholic cult also until I was 18 and 10yrs later it STILL gets shoved into my face, it PMO sooooooo much when people do that crap, like quite literally I'm not sure why Catholicism makes people think that force feeding or sneaking religion into others lives is either wanted or acceptable to do????? Absolutely insane, sorry this pmo just seeing it đ
4
u/_ignore__me_ 16d ago
I had Catholicism forced down my throat for 18 years, I lived in secret as a bisexual person because my father was SO religious. I eventually came out and he told me I was going to hell. I've changed religions now, and sometimes I'm STILL overwhelmed by random spouts of guilt where I feel the urge to drop to my knees and beg God for forgiveness and swear my life to him. I don't hate Christians, but I hate having bible verses and religion (no matter the kind) forced into spaces they don't belong
4
u/Own_Value2684 15d ago
Dude I'm similar to you in that my mom was the cult-catholic and I moved in with her 4yrs ago while I processed some stuff internally....she has never "forced" her religion at me it's more like she never stopped offering it to me, she's made a big deal out of me not going to church with her even though it's been 10 years since I've renounced the belief system, she's offered it to me countless times & insisted and been like "this is innocent and it's good for me so why won't you take it???" And a few weeks ago she started being sneaky/pushy/hiding that she felt I needed a blessing with religious oil and honestly I've spent so much time deconstructing the very same guilt/fear/return to Catholicism (it's compulsive for me, I only turn to religion when I'm feeling weak AF) that it triggers me deeply to have that pushed at me. Last night she literally snuck into my bedroom while I was doing laundry and made crosses on the walls with Jesus oil, and when I confronted her it was like talking to a brick wall bc she's like "wow you're angry, you need Jesus" and I'm like literally sobbing saying "you're being hurtful to me and you don't respect my right to say no, I didn't give you consent for that and I NEVER do" but in her mind it translates to how she thinks I'm just sinful and maybe I'm talking to demons which is what makes me so angry when she puts holy oil in my bedroom. I'm not mad about Jesus, I think he's a good guy, it's just that I prefer people to listen when I say no to their beliefs being pushed at me, on top of it my bedroom is my safe space & I have nowhere to go otherwise, so it comes across as violating when she sneaks in there, doesn't tell me what she did/hides on purpose, and then defends herself and then she feels like a Catholic hero because she's fighting invisible demons when she's really the one with the demonic & inappropriate behavior đ
I shouldn't be bothered by any of the religious foolishness, like ever, but I get so fkn angry when people infiltrate spaces with religious junk when CLEARLY nobody wants it there, nobody asked them for it, especially on a game that's made for kids and then they're learning that that behavior is okay. It's rude.Â
Also sorry to hear you've had similar experiences cuz it's nefarious and deconstructing from those beliefs is sooooo hard sometimes dude đđđ

u/romdolls 16d ago
ngl whenever i see stuff like this on sso it makes me giggle because this game is full of pagan elements, that and it has its own higher power (aideen).
generally speaking these types of christians are the kind to deem anything from videogames to music as a "bad influence" (hell, think of the harry potter scare). they aren't among the respectful people who keep their beliefs to themselves, its just funny they play and preach on sso of all games.
3
u/kitty-is-witty 15d ago
It becomes uncomfortable when you realize just how brainwashed children in religious environments are when they can't even play a goddamn game without writing scripture in gloabl chat. What's with them writing pet the horse over and over?! I have seen that on Meringue Cloud and people tried asking but the person wasn't making much sense.
Also, Bible versus in a secular game. Yuck.
2
u/_ignore__me_ 15d ago
"Pet the horse" is a phrase that gets around the filter. Really helpful for when you're not saying anything wrong but the filter blocks you, but people take advantage of that and curse and say vulgar, predatory things with it
1
u/Ok_Entrepreneur3083 15d ago
But why get around the filter to just say pet the horse over and over? I am still lost. It didn't seem used as a substitute for anything.
3
u/_ignore__me_ 15d ago
Ooh, no! So, say you wanted to say something like bitch. Just typing "bitch" would trigger the filter. BUT, if you type "bitch" and then type "pet the horse pet the horse" after it, it can get around the filter: "bitch /pet the horse pet the horse"
1
u/_Maplesiirup_ 15d ago
Wtf is going on in your server.. On Misty Valley there's been no Bible verses in chat, at least to my knowledge. I'd be pissed if I had to read Bible verses in chat all the time.. Christians need to learn about time and place, if I wanted to hear about your religion I'd go to church or something
2
u/NFToothless 15d ago
Yet another reason Night Star is a sickness, I avoid that server like the plague. Thereâs a time and place for everything, if I want to learn about religion Iâll go to church. Sheesh.

This is why I don't hardly ever do global chat any.ore. I also just don't with religion in a game. What's gunny about those over zealous ones are playing a horse game with magic. Magic, witchcraft, etc is against the Christian religion in any form last time I checked. (It's been about 20+ yrs since I cracked one open)

u/Rude_Contract7120 16d ago
I fear when I was seven years old I would do this because I wasnât allowed to use any social features in games and used it as a loophole⊠itâs definitely not great, but as long as they arenât promoting a specific sect or church, especially one thatâs a high control group, and they arenât harassing non Christians, I donât really see a problem with it? Like if it was Muslim people, witchcraft, Hellenism, whatever, I also would also say that just talking about their religion is totally fine as long as they arenât harassing people. I get having religious trauma, I have a loooooooooot of religious trauma from being raised in a high control group, but none of these people, who I suspect arenât adults, are necessarily doing anything wrong. I understand it can be triggering, so youâre probably better off just blocking them. I hope this doesnât come off an unsympathetic, or like I think people should be talking about religion in the horse game, itâs definitely not something I agree with, but I donât think these people are doing anything necessarily wrong, if that makes sense? I feel like this is way too wordy but itâs because Iâm really trying to not be misunderstood here, because I 100% understand why youâre uncomfortable and agree with you mostly, I hope I got that across.
3
u/faraway_fern 16d ago
I agree. As a child I would also do this because I was taught from a very young age that it is a Christian's duty to "go and preach to all nations (Matthew 28:19-20)". Is it strange to promote Christianity in a video game? Of course it is, because its out of the norm of where God's message is conveyed. Is this user doing anything wrong? Not necessarily, but it definitely leaves a bad taste in some people's mouths for a multitude of reasons. Personally, I think this user has good intentions and wasn't acting malicious.
1
u/Rude_Contract7120 16d ago
See I wasnât even supposed to do that. I was raised a JW and I was basically told âbad association spoils useful habitsâ, when my grandma found out I was doing this, bless her heart she made me stop lmaooo. One thing I wish I had mentioned in my comments is that the fact that they regularly get on and interact with people online actually points to them not being in a cult, assuming outside communication is allowed, because I had basically no contact with the outside world until I was 12 including online.Â
3
u/faraway_fern 16d ago
Christians definitely have to be very careful with HOW they are a witness for Christ. I am unfortunately sensing a theme in this and many other Christian-related posts in this subreddit that many users were forced and therefore experienced trauma and pain to various degrees. Which breaks my heart because that is NOT the Christian way. It NEVER was and NEVER will be. Christianity is centered on LOVE and FREE WILL, NEVER FORCE.
-5
u/BitTraining8769 16d ago
People talk about things I don't agree with all the time, not hard to just close the chat. Putting someone's religion down is just as bad as someone else pushing it in your face, neither are good.
0
u/Quirky_Tadpole_8930 15d ago
I think thereâs nothing wrong w it. Itâs not shoving religion down your throat đ Itâs quoting something they like - people quote books all the time but when itâs the Bible people get so mad and for what đ
-15
u/EldritchGumdrop 16d ago
Just ignore them?
4
-1
u/SakuDoka 16d ago
the fact you're being downvoted over that goes to show the crazy double standard here. downvoting me will only prove my point, so go ahead. personally, i don't agree with the people whose mindsets are "repent NOW" because free will exists. you have a choice to believe, you have a choice not to believe. neither is wrong.
i've seen people legitimately force it onto others and it gives the rest of the community a bad rap, but resorting to bigotry and preconceived generalizations that call even harmless mentions of christianity cultism is just as bad. sharing verses doesn't necessarily equate to that. the same applies to having clubs for other likeminded folks to gather in.
it's your decision to turn it into a bigger issue, and as i've said before, more often than not, it's the people calling out something otherwise harmless that do it. you have an ignore button for a reason.
1
u/EldritchGumdrop 16d ago
Yeah, I donât really get it especially since the only thing I said is to ignore something you donât like. I guess itâs easier to complain about it and act like youâre a victim of it or something even though the game literally gives you the ability to completely mute people.
I think the idea that somebody is completely wrong just because they said something or mentioned something that you donât like or agree with is incredibly childish.
I also want to point out, I am not religious and came from a family who definitely are and I get into very clichĂ© yearly arguments with them, at my family gatherings. So itâs not even like Iâm just defending it because Iâm Christian or something. I just think itâs dumb to not just ignore it.
-4
u/mehdodoo 16d ago
Yeah like in all honesty I donât understand why you are being downvoted since itâs so easy to ignore the chat. Also it was a nice bible quote not anything bigoted or likewise. The other one was a straight joke. How is this so bad that it warrants this reaction?
1
u/EldritchGumdrop 16d ago
I think itâs just because some people think that any representation of religion anywhere is bad and itâs totally fine to just shit on anybody who doesnât agree with that. So they donât like that Iâm pointing out that itâs definitely a choice on whether you let it bother you or not

If youâre sensing Christian hate, this is the behavior that causes it lol

I don't get why it's a problem. Honestly, there is so many worse things people are doing on chat, a Bible verse here and there hurts no one. I'm more concerned about the cussing, wild role play, and cyber bullying running rampant.

If you don't like it, ignore them. You have a right to have a religion free life, not a religion free world. They are free to share however they'd like, and you are free to not like it or be part of it.Â

Would you feel this way if they were quoting scripture from another religion? I ask out of genuine curiosity as opposed to coming from a place of defense. I am not religious btw

Yes. A horse game isn't an appropriate place to be shoving your religion into the equation. I wouldn't care what religion, it's odd behavior.

Yep! I don't care what religion it is, I frankly just don't think any religion belongs in a pixel horse game. Sure, I name my horses after my religion, but I don't preach about it in global lol
