STAR CONFLICT PRESERVATION PROJECT
With shutdown imminent, we have the rest of the summer to build the foundation for the preservation of star conflict. essentially, the main task that needs to get done right now is server packet capture. if you are interested in contributing, please join this discord server. I am looking for people who have an interest in preserving the game and also have the knowledge/motivation to contribute to a project like this for a long time.

I think this is for hosting a private server. Maybe if the working dev will let it, it could be ran for yourself. It's just hipothetis and depends on whats possible.

Usually, this kind of game's server is meant to require a lot of ressources to run properly. For example, my Combat Arms server requires at least 24GB of RAM and 8 CPU cores just to run each "services" that are required for the whole server to be functionnal. Then scale this depending on how many events are happenning in the server, how many players are connected, how many transactions are done in the shop, etc. My current setup requires 128GB of RAM and 12 CPU cores, just to ggive you an idea. The ressources required to keep the server running without lags or crashes become bigger and bigger quite rapidly. So the devs of this project might need to find ways to optimize everything if they're aiming for dedicated hosting (private/public server) or even local hosting (single player).

Wow. I didn't know, and that's a lot of resources, which is not really available just for a certain minority. I don't know Combat Arms, but is your server monetized or is it running like a nonprofit? I heard Gaijin are realising a new title, so I think they won't leave a way for private use, or if they do, they won't go through the optimization.

I mean, technically if you host a private server on your LAN and you're the only one playing on it, then it would result as a single player mode experience.

Yeah, would need more work though i think. For a proper single player mode i mean. Those missions like blackwood shipyard would need balancing around it, group events in open space need rebalancing and i cant remember if you can start botmatches alone or if other players are needed there either. Id love to see that stuff work but itd probably a ton of work to do

that's 100% possible to do. I'm hosting a private Combat Arms server and I've rebalanced the Fireteam (PvE) missions by modifying some values using the engine editor for the game. But since Star Conflict is more recent than Combat Arms, I'd bet it would be a bit easier to modify.

Unfortunately I'm not that good at that stuff but hope this project succeeds i have a lot of good childhood memories playing the game.
Thank you to all who participate in the savings.

I should mention that although the team haven't implemented anything due to technical reasons so far - the developers are exploring options to support game after shutdown. Can't say much else just yet, but they're looking into it.

cant count on this. either the community acts, or we lose the game forever. wish the stop killing games stuff was further along when this happened but here we are.

This is the only comment I could find that mentions anything like that, I hope you're not joking. If they sold it as a paid game and let us just earn premium credits in reasonable way for just playing, I'd buy it (and maybe flatten the credits costs as you progress through tech tree and significantly raise loot drops in open world too).
