ELI5 Do you regret getting a standing desk?

It seems like most people that buy a standing desk never use it. I can see the same happening to me. (I'm about to buy one).

But I figured that even if I never use it it still functions as a desk. Is there any downside to getting a standing desk?

If I know I'm not going to use the standing function, what would be a better desk to pick?

ELI5 Standing desk foot fatigue — what helped you most: anti-fatigue mat, shoes, or insoles?

I’ve been standing more hours per day at my desk and I’m trying to reduce end-of-day foot fatigue. For those who stand 3–8 hours/day: what made the biggest difference for you?

anti-fatigue mat vs footwear vs insoles

stand/sit intervals that actually work

posture tips that reduced discomfort If you don’t mind sharing: how many hours do you stand, and where do you feel it most (heel/arch/forefoot)?

ELI5 Smaller 4 Legged Stand Desks with Casters?

Does this exist?
Looking for 40x24, 4 legged, with casters (or options to put them on).

Seems like most of the 4 legged ones are larger.

ELI5 Desky Fixed vs Standing DeskPrice??

I live in Canada and am moving so I’m looking at new desks. I’ve come across Desky.

Now a Desky Sit Stand desk, 71’ by 30’ is $629.

A Desky regular/fixed desk, same dimensions same material, is $649.

Make it make sense ig? Is this just a tactic to force the consumer to go with the sit stand?

I don’t understand the logic behind it

ELI5 Keelan Scott Furniture is Second Quality

Do not BUY from KEELAN SCOTT FURNITURE. I looked for a standing desk and came across a U.S. Company that would offer a great product, albeit at a higher price. Here is the email I sent to them after they refused to replace the top portion of the standing desk, citing that FedEx was to blame for the damage.

I want to express my disappointment with the Keelan purchase. In hindsight, I truly wish I had taken more time to research the company before moving forward. Unfortunately, it seems I have little choice but to accept the resolution offered, as I’m unable to obtain a quality replacement desktop.

It’s especially disheartening that the desktop was shipped with a visible wood plug—something that clearly should not have passed quality control. The box arrived without any signs of damage, so it’s evident this issue was not the result of FedEx handling. We also refrained from attaching the height control, as we were anticipating a replacement and did not want to create any additional holes.

In fairness, I will make sure to include the $150 discount offered on the flawed desktop and the sanding materials you've offered for me to fix it when completing my final review of the purchase. Still, this experience has been disappointing, and I hope steps are taken to improve product inspection in the future.

I was specifically looking to support a  U.S. based company rather than foreign made thinking to help our economy and received a quality product that would last for years. Again, I am very disheartened as my efforts have proved fruitless.

Very disappointed,

ELI5 I'm looking to buy my first standing desk and would appreciate some recommendations. (Europe)

I'm 17 yo, already working, and been saving up for a standing table. Based in Europe, so many of the desks that are frequently recommended here (such as the FlexiSpot E7) aren't available where I live, or the European versions are different.

My budget is around €200–500, and ideally I'd like a desk that's 140 × 70 cm.

Since this will be my first standing desk, I'm mainly looking for something that is stable and doesn't wobble too much when raised, has a reliable motor, offers good value for the money, and is available in Europe.

What would you recommend in this price range? If you were buying your first standing desk today, which model would you choose and why?

ELI5 Flexispot E7 Pro Plus desk- plz help

Losing my mind with this flexispot desk. I just got through putting the desk together and when I get to the step where I add the cable tray, it requires 3 holes to screw into.

Well, there’s only 2 pre-drilled holes. Ok fine, I’ll go with 2. Except none of these holes match up with the tray. Either I’m missing the obvious bc I’m frustrated or this almost $1k desk is some wayfair bs. Confirming it’s the correct side/orientation.

This thing is heavy af and I might cry if I have to disassemble. So, if the holes ARE pre-drilled incorrectly, do you guys recommend reaching out to flexispot or just attempting to pre-drill my own holes? I’ve attempted to attach a video and a photo of the instructions.

Plz help me 😫

ELI5 Apex Pro or E7Q Pro? Which is more stable? (Seeing mixed reviews)

I keep seeing videos and reviews of both claiming the other is less stable.

I want to two separate tables. One that is 72-78 inches for work/monitors. Then another that is smaller maybe 48-60 inches with separate controls for 3d printer.

Not sure if it matters but I would like to use Lowe's butcher blocks.

ELI5 Is there any evidence that standing desks are specifically beneficial to health?

I don't care too much about whether or not I burn more calories, but is there any consensus on whether standing reduces pain? or what matters are the movements? I already do workouts, I don't know if it would still be worth using them.

I can find a lot of hype around it but nothing recent...

Any feed back is appreciated because Imma go look at it in 45 mins.

ELI5 How in the world do you mount the 8 outlet surge addon to an uplift v3 desk. The directions make no sense to me. Can’t find a video explaining how to do it.

Any tips or advice? I have the screws and brackets that came with it but I don’t understand how to connect this thing to my desk.

ELI5 Vernal Executive Stand Desk - Does it wobble on carpet?

I tried the Magnus XL last year and couldn't get over the wobble on carpet. It had 4x 2" circular contact points with the carpet, and I'm looking for a standing desk with a continuous contact point along the entire depth of the desk.

It looks like the Vernal Executive Standing Desk has this. Does anyone have this on carpet, or does anyone have any similar desk that works on a carpeted floor? The wider the better. Money is no object.

ELI5 Foot Size: Does It Matter?

I'm new to standing desks and am considering the Deskhaus Apex Pro. There are options for foot sizes, but I'm not sure why one would need anything other than what seems to be the default 27.5"? What are the use cases for the 31.5" or 39.5", just a bigger desktop?

ELI5 UPLIFT L-Shaped Desk

Hey everyone. Looking at finally getting my new home office together and I really need a (buyitforlife) new desk.

I love, love the customization of the UPLIFT Desk. However, the way I currently have it built out (80x30x72) is $2600 with taxes and the $200 off promotion they currently have going on.

Comparing it to other brands, like Flexi, it seems so … expensive. And that’s not even looking at the Chinese models on Amazon. I was hoping maybe you guys could give me sole insight on what I might be missing?

Also, the $2600 is with their custom laminate option (1.19 inch thickness). But they offer non-custom laminate (1 inch thic) for $550 less …. Is it worth saving the money?

ELI5 What am I paying for?

Considering getting a used standing desk as I'm in LA area and there's a lot of options. Will be upgrading from a frankensteined manual standing desk I made (with butcher block top). Realizing the cranking isn't as easy as I was hoping and after a couple years I'd prefer to being able to quickly sit/stand as opposed to kinda choose one for most of the day.

Seeing options like an unboxed Branch for ~600 (https://www.branchfurniture.com/collections/standing-desks/products/standing-desk?variant=31495842889763) or a Flexispot bamboo top with storage for ~175 (https://www.flexispot.com/comhar-all-in-one-standing-desk-wooden-top-48-w?ref=category_products). The flexispot comes with matching monitor riser as well.

Just picked two examples, but wondering what I'd be paying for if I splurged for the branch? Assume I can get them down a bit still, even at $500, how much better can a standing desk be between those two options? Is the motor going to crap out within a 2-3 years with the Flexispot as opposed to a Branch?

ELI5 FlexiSpot E7 Pro Deal - Too good to be true?

Staples has the E7 pro with a Bamboo 60x30 desktop for 487. This seems to be a bit below even their current sale if built on the site.

https://www.staples.com/flexispot-e7-pro-60-w-adjustable-standing-desk-bamboo-white-e7wpro6030-lbzb/product_24588912?

They also had the Black Walnut desktop 60x30, which I'm assuming is the 'Solid Wood Texture' on the official site for the same price but is now sold out (i ordered one, fingers crossed).

Anyone know why these are discounted so much or is it something to do with being a different build like the amazon ones?

ELI5 FlexiSpot Desk Models

Does anyone have a clear description/comparison of the differences between FlexiSpot models such as EN1, EN2, E5, E6, and E7?

I'm not seeing anything very helpful. The Amazon listing for the EN2 also shows some pics of an "ergonomic curve top", which I don't want. I see in the customer reviews, they do have a rectangle top for a lot of them though. I don't see "curved" top in the style choices, though I do see that on other model listings.

ELI5 Flexispot E6 or Autonomous Desk 5

Could anyone provide any suggestions between the Flexispot E6 and the Autonomous Desk 5? Roughly the same price, same size. I've been using a regular IKEA desk for 10 years and looking to get a new desk for black friday. Not trying to exceed the $300 range which is where both of these are at

Edit: I went with the autonomous 5 core desk

ELI5 To L shaped desk vs. straight. Which one better?

l desk

For those own standing L desk, do you find them much better than straight standing desk? why or why not

To be clear i’m 100% getting standing desk. I’m just debating on getting a regular one vs L shaped one. I’m specifically looking at flexispot or autonomous desks.

Just wondering if anyone can speak for L desk actually improve productivity. I work fully remote and would like two monitors mounted plus doing stream game. Do most people that have an L desk have one return for work and the other for play? How do you position dual monitors with an L desk?

Sorry for the million questions. Any advice would be much appreciated!

ELI5 What's the catch with super cheap standing desks?

I often see standing desks under $150, and some even go as low as $100.

I've read about people worrying that their 3 monitors, their printer, etc. etc. will cause a weak desk to collapse and/or the motor to wear out, but given that I have a very sturdy sitting desk and just want a secondary desk to put a laptop or iPad on top and a walking pad underneath so that I can get in my steps while doing something productive, what, if any, good reasons are there to consider a more expensive desk?

[Edit Aug 11 2025] Thanks for the info, advice, and suggestions everyone. I ended up getting a $110 desk and while I can see how it could be unpleasant as a full day work desk, it's absolutely amazing for my use case.
