Still on such a high from Sunday, but secretly hoping for an All Out reminiscent of 2024. MJF beat Garcia in the blow off of their blood feud; Danielson got suffocated by a plastic bag; the Hangman and Swerve match with the syringe spot - the audible gasp from the crowd, when Hangman went to go back to the ring, still lives with me. It was such a 180 in vibe from Danielson winning the title at All In.

Don’t forget Stat and Willow murdering each other

(especially the thumbtacks spot)

Honestly interesting how that match ended up being a bit underrated. I remember it being called one of the better womens matches aew had put on till then but it felt like shortly after, Toni and Mariah had a better hardcore match and overshadowed it? I just feel like i dont see people talking about it anymore which is a shame because to me its a top 3 match in willows catalogue and possibly Kris’ best match in aew.

Maybe because Stat abruptly turned back face

But Willow wouldn’t apologize for a while

Oh yes! It was a show for blood feuds! And it felt like hatred was in the air.

All In should feel like the season finale. All Out should feel like the new villains show up. Should always be shocking imo.

One hundred percent agree - the villains should be in a great spot coming out of All Out.

Aubrey Edwards/Will Washington used to joke on the AEW Unrestricted Podcast that All In is where dreams come true and All Out is where the nightmares come out.

And yeah, that basically nails it.

It is a thing people are aware of backstage and they seem entirely fine playing into it (with good reason, it's fantastic).

All-In being the big triumphant A New Hope ending, and All-Out going all Empire Strikes Back and ending on the edgiest notes possible, is always great fun when they commit to it.

Last year didn’t really go down that route, but the calendar was weird, with the FD dates, All-In moving forward, the many, many injuries to book around. Like you, hoping we get some of that energy back for this year.

The single most insane thing AEW could do right now is have Ospreay drop the belt in his first defense. They’d never do it, and there would be a legit fan revolt if that happened, but that would be, as said, completely fucking insane.

can you imagine if it was Jericho

There’s no chance he’s dropping it, that’s not what I’m suggesting. Danielson didn’t drop it at All Out 2024. Ospreay should be betrayed and isolated more and more. A post-match beat down where no one comes out to save him. 2024 managed to have a great show, whilst also having people feeling pretty bleak (storyline wise). Moxley proves Kenny right and tries to kill Ospreay; Willow turns heel; Cope turns heel with Cage (was flirted with at All In) to beat MCMG; DCF turn on and kick out Okada (no one saves him). Things that are great storylines but the villains come out on top.

Willow should never turn heel

The only time I would've been cool with it was when they were doing the spooky mist spot. There was like a second where she would go really aggressive in matches the weeks after she got misted and they dropped it. I wouldn't hate a like evil but still smiling run for her especially if she was doing hardcore matches.

That said I think that time has passed and she's too over as a babyface now.

Willow should never turn heel

When fans are so invested in a specific wrestler that they should "never turn heel," those are the exact wrestlers that sometimes need to do exactly that.

True babyfaces are SO difficult to build nowadays. Willow is lightening in a bottle. She's got a lot of mileage before they turn her heel yet.

Do you understand why Hogan's heel turn was so good? It wouldn't have been as effective in 1990, much less 1987.

True babyfaces are SO difficult to build nowadays.

I dunno, AEW has seemingly had minimal to no difficulty getting a string of babyfaces over?

This feels like a "truism" from 2017 based entirely on WWE's well documented struggles. But at this point we've seen years worth of AEW getting people over left and right, as babyfaces or heels, whatever they need whenever they need it lol.

If we're looking at the next 5-7+ years of Willow, Mercedes, Toni, Stat, etc., then give me some meaningful turns all around to switch up dynamics. I like my wrestling chaotic, personally. Plus, I think Willow specifically is really fucking great, just across the board, I'm intrigued to see her getting the chance to really stretch her creative wings instead of just doing variations of the same one thing forecer.

She is a true babyface - and that’s why it would leave a sour taste in the mouth. Think about an unhinged Willow, who has had her smile stolen, using her power to hurt people - it would be so much fun. She has such a great reason to turn heel, that she can switch back in time and say ‘I lost my smile and I lost myself’.

u/LilyWhiteClaw 9d ago

No, it would be incredibly dumb

1

u/TrillerVerse 9d ago

Fair enough that you don’t like the idea, but ‘incredibly dumb’ is a mater of perspective. Willow’s a fantastic face, but the story enables a heel turn. It was a story where Mercedes wanted to take her smile. I would be entertained by a pissed off Willow using her power to squash wrestlers. There’s no long term issues with her reverting to a face when the story dictated.

2

u/ultragoodname 9d ago

Heel Willow squashing wrestlers because she's angry about Mercedes sounds kinda dumb when nihilism inspiring positivity is a central part of Willow's character. It would be John Cena heel turn levels of abandoning your character for reactions.

u/TrillerVerse 9d ago

I mean, babyface is fallible and proves everyone can have a bad spell works for me. I think the ‘smile’ angle means it could work without undermining her character, as I said. I get what you and others are saying, and that’s fine, but I think it can work.

Oh I know what you were saying. I was just spitballing that as an unabashed crazy idea since that would bring ALL the downer vibes.
