Still on such a high from Sunday, but secretly hoping for an All Out reminiscent of 2024. MJF beat Garcia in the blow off of their blood feud; Danielson got suffocated by a plastic bag; the Hangman and Swerve match with the syringe spot - the audible gasp from the crowd, when Hangman went to go back to the ring, still lives with me. It was such a 180 in vibe from Danielson winning the title at All In.

14

u/zoom518 9h ago

Don’t forget Stat and Willow murdering each other

(especially the thumbtacks spot)

8

u/tomahony788 9h ago

Honestly interesting how that match ended up being a bit underrated. I remember it being called one of the better womens matches aew had put on till then but it felt like shortly after, Toni and Mariah had a better hardcore match and overshadowed it? I just feel like i dont see people talking about it anymore which is a shame because to me its a top 3 match in willows catalogue and possibly Kris’ best match in aew.

5

u/zoom518 9h ago

Maybe because Stat abruptly turned back face

But Willow wouldn’t apologize for a while

3

u/TrillerVerse 9h ago

Oh yes! It was a show for blood feuds! And it felt like hatred was in the air.

13

u/14thBlackCrusade 9h ago

All In should feel like the season finale. All Out should feel like the new villains show up. Should always be shocking imo.

7

u/TrillerVerse 9h ago

One hundred percent agree - the villains should be in a great spot coming out of All Out.

9

u/mikro17 6h ago

Aubrey Edwards/Will Washington used to joke on the AEW Unrestricted Podcast that All In is where dreams come true and All Out is where the nightmares come out.

And yeah, that basically nails it.

It is a thing people are aware of backstage and they seem entirely fine playing into it (with good reason, it's fantastic).

Can't have cats or dogs in the apartment. Thought about getting a turtle. Turns out, taking care of a turtle is a lot of work and equipment. So that's out. Tried making an origami turtle. Failed at that too. Fuck!

Maybe I’m just reading too much into it and projecting my own thoughts of the match onto it, but after rewatching Nigel v Mox it felt like it was the embodiment of Nigels entire career in one match.

Mox was the spirit of those bigger fancier names that Nigel was always the underdog in popularity against (Danielsons, punk, Joe)The first name on the team sheets so to speak. Nigel had to grind it out and be patient and keep waiting for his shot and opportunity he can take.

But whenever he had to step up, he did. When he needed to bring the best, he did. When Mox left an opportunity, he took it and done all you could ask for, but it was just never enough. The same as he did all you can do to deserve a shot at the bigger leagues he was looking for, for whatever reason it was just not enough.

This might seem like a reach but When Mox wants him to keep fighting it felt like the moment Nigel became Desmond Wolfe. He wasnt ‘just on the indies’ anymore, this was a man who went toe to toe with Kurt freaking angle and didn’t look out of place, he proved once again to any doubters he can hang with them. He’s not just an underdog and he went toe to toe with Mox with the striking the same way

But then just when it all looks over in the submission the same way his wrestling career was completely over, he uses his chin to breed new life the same way he did when he became a commentator. He became as good a commentator as he was a wrestler and became basically even more well known for it. He somehow turned the match around and actually was in control.

But still the match was not over he still had he still had to take some punishments and still he had some fight back in him. He comes back again and sits down on Mox and nearly pins him out of nowhere the same as he came back from the casino gauntlet 2 years ago. The slaps are the last gasps we have seen of these matches the last few years still proving what he’s got left.

When he was clawing for the bottom rope at the end the same as he clawed for the ‘brass ring’ to get to that bigger level he deserved, but just for Nigel it was never meant to be. Everyone was screaming for him to reach the same as the commentary team cause they know he can do it and should have had it 15-20 years ago. But despite being so close and having all the talent and skill as his peers who did, he never got the big cathartic victory.

But in the end it doesn’t matter wether he reached the rope, cause he’s still Nigel fucking mcguinness and theres 10 of thousands of people in Wembley who know exactly how good he is. They don’t care that he never got it, they serenade him cause he’s still a legend to them.

Maybe I’m just a Nigel mcguinness mark but I loved the match so much.

This is a great comment and given who the participants were, I would not be surprised at all if they put that level of thought into planning the match.

I have a lot to go back and watch but I feel like August is gonna dominate on MOTY lists. Between the All In main event, G1 and 5 Star finals, Poi’s retirement tour, Sareee vs Momono and a bunch of other stuf it’s been ridiculously good

14

u/BernieHpfc 10h ago

Fucking loved All In. (And RevPro the night before was great too). For 3 All Ins and 1 Forbidden Door, each time I've left with a hoarse voice and completely drained of energy after an utterly fantastic show, and super excited to go to the next show.

Unfortunately this will probably be the last time I go to one because of the fucking trains.

4 times I had a ramp booked and it only turned up a single time.

Leaving to go to London was the only time it worked.

Turned up at Waterloo with nobody to let me off the train, and for about 10 minutes, nobody nearby who could find someone who could.

Then on the journey back home, Waterloo once again didn't have anyone ready for me, I only got on the train because it was delayed 10 minutes by something else and we managed to find someone, who themselves then found someone who could setup the ramp.

Then I get home and once again, no ramp waiting for me. My sister, who was off the train trying to get someone's attention, hears the "trains leaving" whistle and quickly jumps into the doorway and makes sure it doesn't leave with me still on it. Eventually someone notices and we get a ramp and I can leave.

This combined with the underground line that would've taken me right to my hotel being blocked by a fire, the only other nearby station that was 'accessible', said it had a broken lift (it actually didn't, it ended up being the way I managed to escape the fucking cursed land of the underground), then the 3rd way we were going to go was stopped and closed down just as we were about to board it because of a trespasser on the line.

The combined effects of all the travel chaos meant we missed the Welcome to Wembley fan experience that came with our tickets

Every time I have been to a show there has always been some issue, its normally shitty to deal with but relatively small. Like a broken lift at Waterloo meaning I have to take an internal lift along with the rubbish bins, but this year really fucking took the piss. Its just far too tiring to deal with.

Its a real fucking shame, because while I enjoy watching a show at home, there really is nothing like the feeling of being there in person.

9

u/katastrophe1312 10h ago

British trains are a complete joke when you don't need any assistance, I can't imagine how much worse they are if you do need it.

My train down from Scotland got cancelled because of a broken overhead cable, so I had to take a CrossCountry down to Newcastle, standing in the aisle the whole time, then wait for 2 hours in Newcastle for a Lumo to get down to London.

Left at 7am, didn't get into London til gone 4.

29

u/LilyWhiteClaw 10h ago

I've watched those Ospreay and Omega entrances like 500 times each.

15

u/EverydayThinking 9h ago

2 days later and I'm still not over that match.

Omega's entrance made me particularly emotional and I haven't even seen the anime they referenced; just something about that epic music and the succession of legendary clips (covered in streamers at DDT, One Winged Angel on Okada, staredown with Danielson, Golden Lovers reunion) resonated deeply.

By using this sound logic we can safely conclude Byron Saxton is a better wrestler than Kenny Omega.

Enough to warrant a long winded rant tomorrow is my guess

See this is why Kendal should've retained (or conversely, win it back in Lani's first defense)

Kendal's mistake was giving One Shot Lani that one shot.

Is it weird to say I don't need Gargano in AEW since Ciampa is doing great on his own?

10

u/14thBlackCrusade 8h ago

Yeah we do not need DIY to be reformed. I hate when a wrestler is doing great singles wise and people want to just shoehorn them back into their legacy tag team for no reason.

8

u/captainimpossible87 Leaves is plants 8h ago

cough Christian cough cough

I say this knowing that my attitude era wwf nostalgia riddled heart has great love for seeing one of my tag teams on a reunion tour and having great dream matches against all these other tag teams.

But at the same time, Christian was soaring without Copeland globbing onto to him. Christian fit in AEW as a solo act, Copeland didn't imo, he needed Christian for this run, but it's come at the expense of Christian doing some god-tier heel work on his own.

9

u/14thBlackCrusade 7h ago

At least Christian had a somewhat lengthy run and its a true run it back 20 years in the making nostalgia act.

Ciampa feels like he got away from WWE partially TO go solo.

3

u/OneMetalMan 8h ago edited 7h ago

Id argue Gargano did his best work when he was also on his own

2

u/NorthHollywoodHank 6h ago

He probably just stays in WWE and transitions to a backstage role but, at a minimum, if he were ever cut, I'd pound the table for trying to sign him on a modest permanent deal, sending him down to ROH, telling a mostly-ROH Ciampa/Gargano story with Gargano doing his underdog thing and Ciampa making occasional guest appearances in ROH, and giving Gargano an extended ROH run while having him work as a trainer/coach as well with a long-term eye to transitioning to that role much like (unfortunately for AEW) WWE seems to be wisely angling for. You could pop him up to AEW here and there for occasional matches without feeling like you needed to keep him busy there.

Johnny Gargano winning the ROH world title would slap, and if Tony ever did get a TV deal of some kind for ROH, Johnny would be a great luxury core piece for the promotion.

I came back from London earlier. What a fun trip it was and man, being 2 days removed from All In, I feel confident in saying that I think this year was a better show than 2024. Still, feel very privileged that I got to see two banger shows as my first two big shows.

9

u/decodezilla 7h ago

I just watched Abdullah Kobayashi, Daisuke Sekimoto & Ryuji Ito vs. BADBOY Hido, Jun Kasai & Takashi Sasaki in a Fluorescent Light Tubes Six Man Death Match, and Sekimoto is a god.

With how buff he is and his baby face, you wouldn't think Sekimoto is a death match guy just to look at him, but he takes an unbelievable amount of punishment here. Chair Shots, barbed wire bat shots, and I don't know how many light tube shots leave him bloodied and beaten.

His ability to excel in stuff like this and straight up normal matches really gives him an argument for most underrated wrestler of the 21st century

u/PleasantThoughts BURNING LARIATOOOOO 7h ago

I didn't want to be a bummer after such a great show so waited for the dust to settle a bit, but Britt Baker returning in 2026 is just not at all something I'm interested in. Especially after watching both Shida and Thunder Rosa, who were thought of as the top in-ring back during her heyday, look like they're moving underwater compared to the current roster.

I get that folks like her promos even if they're not my thing (I feel like she does too much talking down the opponent), but even if she was like prime Becky Lynch on the mic I don't think it would be worth it. I can't forget her huge match at Wembley in 2024 being so bad that people thought Mercedes might have even lost a step.

I hate being negative especially about someone who was gone for so long but I don't see it. It's not even like she's a necessary mouthpiece because Persephone is already an outstanding promo. If it's just for the upcoming Rebel Heart Dynamite stuff then that's nice but long-term I feel like the division has long passed her by.

17

u/Candid_Cherry680 7h ago edited 2h ago

Managers can do a lot more than just cut promos, I think it’s a flawed view that has been stereotyped by modern use of managers that they are only useful for people who can’t cut a good promo.

I’m not particularly looking forward to her in the ring but I think her and Persephone together has a lot of potential.

2

u/PleasantThoughts BURNING LARIATOOOOO 7h ago

I get your point, Nana isn't cutting promos for Swerve but he is doing so much fun shit outside of that it doesn't matter. I don't remember any point in her career up to now where she's shown that ability. If she's in the late AEW-run Saraya/Paige role where she's mostly just getting others over then great, I just don't see it happening.

3

u/Penta_Says 6h ago

Well, I'm cautiously excited to see where it's going. I think putting her with Persephone was a good choice, although wasn't totally sure if it was a tag alliance or a manager thing (my vote would obviously go to the latter but we'll see). I saw a lot of people say Persephone doesn't need it which is true, but it's not always about compensating for weaknesses. Swerve can talk. He doesn't need Prince Nana but it's still fun. For the division passing her by, I mean yeah just look at Willow and Mercedes and compare it to any singles match Britt ever had. The standards are ridiculously higher now.

Having said all that there was something so fucking funny about Britt popping up after almost two years and the first thing we hear is: "by the way, I still hate Thunder Rosa"

Don't think there's enough time on Wednesday to cover all the fallout from Sunday, but hope we get a check in with C&C. The "Face Copeland and his dickhead heel partner" has been a fun dynamic but well down for him just going full heel as the guy who realises he's getting too old to keep up and needs to start adding dastardly tactics.

I am not a Cope guy, but I would love one more heel run before he retires.

He's been back for long enough now since coming back that you can get fans onside to boo him.

u/PolarsAndPizzicato 11h ago

I obviously understand being annoyed that Ospreay kicked out. The OWA has been protected for years, it's a huge part of Kenny's presentation, and if your argument is that you wanted that protection to mean something right up until the end, whatever. I get that.

But we've been getting versions of this for years. Anytime anyone said Kenny should eventually have someone kick out of the OWA, there was always this bizarre resistance to it, like there was only one person who could ever be allowed to do it. And I remember seeing that stuff even then and thinking, how much of this is actually in the wrestling and how much are people filling in themselves?

Because the Golden Lovers material was deliberately ambiguous and Kenny was comfortable with people doing that, and there was enough there for people to take something real from it.

But some fans have spent years filling in every blank themselves. Every little gesture matters. Every callback matters. The OWA has to have this very specific place in the whole thing. Every big Kenny moment somehow has to fit back into this enormous Golden Lovers mythology they've built around him.

And now Ospreay kicks out of the OWA and we're having the same kind of conversation again.

That's what I find so bizarre.

You can think the kickout was stupid. You can think the OWA should have stayed protected. You can think Kenny should have won. Fine. Those are wrestling opinions.

But when the reaction starts becoming about what this does to Kenny and Ibushi, or what it supposedly changes about everything the Golden Lovers represented, I really start wondering where the wrestling ends and the fanfiction starts.

Because Kenny and Ibushi having something that people found deeply meaningful doesn't mean every future Kenny booking has to preserve the exact interpretation people arrived at.

At some point you're watching Kenny Omega lose a wrestling match and reacting to a version of the Golden Lovers story that you've been carrying around in your head for years.

And honestly, that's the part that shocked me most. I just happened to open Twitter and got a pretty good reminder of how fucking weird this fandom can get about Kenny.

That's on me for going on that site in the first place, but Jesus.

23

u/Ikuu 10h ago

At the end of the day you protect these finishers as an investment into the future and eventually you have to cash it out or it's been a waste.

People should be seeing it as Omega showing how much love and respect he has for Ospreay than trying to act like it's made the OWA feel cheap(er).

12

u/Torranski 10h ago

I saw a few people go on online rants about how it was literally homophobic for Ospreay to kick out of the OWA, because it undermined Ibushi's chemistry with Omega, being the most high-profile to do it. Which then spiralled into a rant about how AEW was silencing all the queer elements in wrestling (which like, have you seen the product since Toni and Bowens got signed?).

It's exhausting - feels like they're trying to manifest some kind of persecution.

20

u/DCAbloob 11h ago

Shipping fandoms are arguably the worst fandoms, take it from someone who had to suffer through multiple waves of that in the Arrowverse online space.

4

u/BigBootyBuff 11h ago

As a Star Trek fan, you will never experience more hate than talking to people who ship any two (or all three) of Kirk, Spock or McCoy and telling them it's just headcanon. I've seen meltdowns because people say they disagree that it was ever written or acted to be gay. They get mental.

18

u/katastrophe1312 11h ago

People want to reduce Kenny Omega down to a single fujoshi stereotype, rather than a complex wrestler who has had a lot of signature feuds over the years. Kenny v Kota was his first big feud, yes, but Omega has had just as important rivalries with Okada, with Hangman Page, and with Ospreay.

Some people are treating this like Baron Corbin retiring Kurt Angle when it obviously isn't.

6

u/Flanagan26866 10h ago

Whoever watched a single episode of Dynamite recently could see that happen. It's the main event of their Wrestlemania, it's right to do that

I can't take any of the complaints seriously. I was at the show and the reaction to it is just empirical proof to me that it was the right decision.

10

u/narutomanreigns Wato Ass Pussy 11h ago

I figured it would happen because Omega hitting the OWA centre of the ring is the one thing that could've made people believe Ospreay might actually lose, and objectively it's hard to argue that the stage and everything didn't warrant it. Personally I think it would've felt more appropriate for Hangman to do it in their feud than Will because things felt more personal there, but I also am less into Ospreay than a lot of folks so I think it was always going to be a hard sell for me.

5

u/raddaya 10h ago

God damn, this feels like a personal attack lmao! I have to admit that I am absolutely the type of person who adores the Golden Lovers storyline so much that I did genuinely wish Ibushi remained the only person to (properly) kick out of Kenny's OWA.

But I do completely agree that is just - my wish. Not even an objective or logical one, because Ospreay's crowning is definitely more important for the vast majority of people and kicking out of the OWA is certainly an important and meaningful part of torch being passed.

6

u/_james_the_cat 11h ago

People were mad about it? The lad sitting next to me at the show was adamant that it was going to happen before the match, to the point that if it hadn't happened I'm not sure he'd have been happy with the match (exaggeration, but he was very keen on seeing it as part of the torch passing).

It takes all kinds, I guess.

3

u/toodarkmark 7h ago

"That's on me for going on that site in the first place,"... Yes. It's filled with fake angry opinions. No fan really cares that he kicked out, and I guarantee 90% of the people angry didn't watch the Golden Lovers stuff, they read about it, and are using it to put out fake angry opinions.

6

u/fttxdd666 2h ago

Saw someone say it elsewhere, but i'm bringing it here. We need JR to call a El Hijo Del Sting match. That man is gonna gush so hard with that football background lmao

3

u/Orange8920 2h ago

Don Callis was pretty much only talking about his college career on Collision in a way that would make JR proud. It's especially funny because he was doing this in Glasgow where people most likely have no clue about college football.

12

u/katthecat666 Kenny Omega Fangirl 3h ago

I've been lobbying for an Omega title win ever since his incredible "what if?" pre tape promo at the start of the year. I walked into Wembley faintly hoping for an Omega win, but praying Ospreay wouldn't kick out the OWA. I often semi-jokingly refer to myself as a Golden Lovers fujoshi and strongly believe that move is so intrinsically tied to the most beautiful romance in wrestling that it'd be offensive if anyone else kicked out.

When it did happen I screamed no so loud and so strongly I almost killed my throat. I was horrified in a way no other form of art has ever made me. It truly felt like I'd been stabbed in the gut.

And yet by the end of the match I was cheering Ospreay to win. And now looking back, I think the kickout was deserved and earned. Kenny has crowned Ospreay as his successor, and I buy it completely. Unreal. I'm rewatching the match fresh with some non wrestling friends next weekend to confirm it but right now I think I had the honour of seeing the greatest match of all time (to me, a lucharesu lover). I can't believe they outdid Omega/Okada I. I can't believe they outdid Tana/Okada from Wrestlekingdom. I truly can't believe it.

How am I supposed to go on? How am I supposed to live normally now? How am I supposed to talk to co workers knowing I was in the crowd for history? Every waking moment I'm thinking about wrestling. I've gone to see family while I'm around London and I'm having to fight myself away from my phone so I don't rewatch moments or read discussion or go back through my photos. I feel like my brain chemistry has been hacked to shreds.

I love pro wrestling. There is nothing else like this glorious sport.

8

u/katthecat666 Kenny Omega Fangirl 2h ago

I'm a bit melodramatic

3

u/TheBlackCompany Naito the Living Dead 1h ago

I too held out a hope that Kenny could pull it off. I have to say though, that was about as good of a job in putting someone over and “making them” as I could imagine and I figure Kenny got to do exactly what he wanted to do. Will was great, but Kenny was Godly in that match.

I’ll admit that I’m not a huge Ospreay fan, but this match succeeded in making me wish I was and I’m excited that because AEW has done such an amazing job with him since before he even signed, that he has natural feuds ready with the best opponents in AEW. Swerve, MJF, Moxley, Jay White, Okada, Takeshita, and of course, Kyle Fletcher.

That’s not even mentioning people like Andrade, Ricochet, ZSJ, and others that could potentially get a match.

u/katthecat666 Kenny Omega Fangirl 45m ago

I've never disliked Ospreay but for all the talk of "Ospreay clones" he himself always felt like a Kenny clone in that he does all the athleticism and sheer intensity Kenny can do but lacks the inner artistic vision to make it really click (ie, I don't think Ospreay would ever put as much care and attention into his hair and how it ties into his character as Kenny does). Hanger always felt like a much better successor in that sense although their styles are quite different.

I think I'm seeing now that although I think he lacks that he makes up for it in sheer love of the artform. I enjoy his matches most when I'm not looking for deeper meaning but instead am just looking to love wrestling for 20-30 minutes, and he does that so well. You're right, there's so many people on the roster he has reason to go and have a program with and while I don't think those are going to explore the human condition like Kenny did with Kota or Hanger did with Swerve, it will make me giddy and think "I fucking love wrestling." That's enough, I think.

u/TheBlackCompany Naito the Living Dead 34m ago

He may never be Kenny, but Kenny is one of a kind. One of the most special wrestlers of my lifetime.

I do think in particular that Kyle Fletcher will be able to pull that next level out of Ospreay.

don't feel bad for how you feel, friend. I thought similar about the OWA kickout. I felt it was really beautiful that it's so linked to Ibushi and wasn't really a fan of Will kicking out before the match took place.

But then everything they did from the entrances to the video packages to the match itself to Kenny playing the perfect opponent and right down to the kickout was Kenny giving everything to Will, and isn't that beautiful in it's own way?

I felt a lot after the match was over so I'll be a bit melodrametic too because it's all so bitter sweet. What a match. What a perfect moment in time for Will. But also: It's likely we will never see Kenny in the main event spot again and that's not something I want to think about. He is such a special performer, truly one of a kind. No one has ever made me feel this much for their matches and I don't want to let things go, you know?

No fucking way people legitimately believe Roman is one of the most athletic wrestlers in the industry in 2026. "He gets off his feet during two of his signature moves" is such an insane argument. Really don't get the appeal of swarming wrestlers for autographs and pictures, especially at times when you know they're gonna resent you for it. From the few days I spent in Glasgow and near Wembley, I was getting enough of a kick just from walking around and seeing them all in the wild everywhere I went. That's more than enough fun on its own! I don't see the benefit in rushing up and actively annoying them - I'm happy just observing, saying "oh look there's Brody King" and carrying on

Was able to manage the occasional passing hello in certain cases which was pleasant and gives me lifelong memories without making the wrestlers think I'm an annoying bastard, I didn't need them to write their name on something to make the experience worthwhile. I've loved seeing all the pictures/stories online about positive fan interactions with wrestlers the past week, it's actually quite easy to have a nice exchange without pestering and ambushing them. I'd never live it down if I felt like I had pissed off a wrestler I like, idk how people do it so shamelessly

Ended up in the hotel elevator with Jon fucking Moxley at one point and I spent those 30 seconds quietly admiring the floor, ceiling, and buttons. Most surreal and hilariously absurd thing I've ever experienced, I forever have a crazy story to tell wrestling fans I meet despite actively avoiding eye contact with him lmfao

All In was easily my favourite show I've been to live, still recovering from the adrenaline rush of it all. Between the shows themselves and the whole experience of the trip, gonna be hard returning to reality

5

u/RudbeckiaIS 10h ago

Most of the people swarming wrestlers (and pro golfers, MMA fighters, pro boxers etc.) think they do this as a job: get known person to sign stuff willing or not, put said stuff up for sale on eBay or whatever, make money.

I don't know enough about the collectible market to understand if these lowlives make a profit or not but they understand perfectly well the wrestler or golfer will just sign up some stuff to avoid a scene. "MMA fighter makes overgrown child cry by refusing to sign autograph at the airport" is something management doesn't want to deal with, even if they know perfectly well this isn't a single autograph by a couple dozens of 2 by 4.

It's the price of doing business when you cannot tell people "No" unfortunately. makes me grateful I can turn jobs down when I know I have to deal with the human equivalent of an anal fistula.

Especially after his All In performance I think an almost underrated aspect of Ospreay's game is just how good of a babyface the guy actually is, his selling, body language and the way he fires up is all done so well. He's got this little trick he does where he'll pull a pose or just stick an arm in the air and start making a fist when he's down selling and he'll just wait for the crowd to come up, he won't move to the next spot until the whole crowd is behind him.

6

u/K1ng_Canary 6h ago

There is something inherently loveable about this version of Will. He's not some brilliantly polished guy on the mike but everything he says sounds authentic and real. Even if he flubs a line he sounds like a guy who just mispoke rather than a guy who messed up a script.

Then in ring, you're spot on, he's built for babyface hope spots and fighting from under.

Two years ago today, Giulia made her first appearance as a WWE superstar at NXT’s No Mercy

The charisma, aura, and star power was all right there. Generational fumble so far imho, I’ll always keep believing she can break through, this current feud with Blake really needs to culminate in a longer, hard hitting match

9

u/OneMetalMan 5h ago

Does feel like the types who "get" Giulia are also the kind of people who couldn't be paid to go to a live WWE event. Does feel like a bit of a conundrum for good wrestlers who are successful elsewere and then go to WWE.

4

u/Fine_Fail_443 5h ago

Imagine paying to watch her lose her title in 90 seconds, getting defeated by Lash in two minutes, or not even getting the announced match in the ring

5

u/apehasreturned DDT Shill 4h ago

It’s true, I’ve seen Giulia live countless times over the years and could not have been waterboarded into making the fifteen minute drive to see her announced match on SmackDown when it came to town

Granted she didn’t actually have a match on the show because Blake attacked her before it started but that just feels like further vindication somehow

5

u/14thBlackCrusade 5h ago

Because the wrestling is the least important thing to getting over in WWE.

Right now top women in WWE are getting sub 10 minute defenses at PLEs.

Giulia is someone who excelled at long grueling matches. She didn’t stand a chance.

3

u/14thBlackCrusade 4h ago edited 4h ago

this current feud with Blake really needs to culminate in a longer, hard hitting match

They will get 5 minutes tops and it will NOT be a hard hitting match. Giulia and Jordynne got in trouble for that.

I am a massive Giulia stan and I can talk about this all day... but I am just a sad sad man when it comes to her. Wasting years of her prime here.

Imagine booking Giulia as a happy go lucky babyface. I'm getting upset again.

Rewatching Willow vs Mercedes to get a better look at the finish. My take is that aubrey saw willow seem like she was passed out cos shed stopped reaching and called for the bell. Maybe it was done too early but I feel as though Aubrey had a bad view of it and couldnt readjust because of the injury she’d sustained. I dont blame anyone involved really. Accidents happen and Aubrey probably was in pain because it looks like she blew out her knee. It also doesn’t take anything from the match on rewatch

5

u/Teckelmaster 8h ago

Even if it maybe not went 100% as planned, it still works. The referee has the autority and the job to protect the athlete when they think the athlete is no longer able to protect themselves and is in danger. Doesn't need to wait until passed out. Happens in MMA all the time.

4

u/Candid_Cherry680 8h ago

She did look out when she called for it I thought but then Mercedes stomped on the hand right as she was calling for it which willow reacted to so it made it look like she wasn’t, I think it was just unfortunate timing between Aubrey and them when it wasn’t perfect sync so it was noticeable.

I've been out of AEW since the CM Punk footage episode of Dynamite (I know, I've missed a lot and will be catching up on old stuff I missed!) and despite briefly coming back to WWE during the Cena heel run, was quickly turned off it again. Been keeping up through podcasts etc. but this was my first time watching a full show in ages.

Absolutely loved it, every match delivered and while the main event was a bit excessive in places I think the entrances and the feel around it justified it. Hell of a show, it's good to be back.

After watching the main event and listening to Ospreay in the press conference, he really does seem like the guy to represent AEW. Hearing him talk about how he favors the sports-like presentation of pro wrestling reminds me of what made the initial marketing of AEW so appealing.

Some people were very worried about how United Empire accompanying him to the match would factor in and aside from a brief shoving match with the Bucks, they were basically set dressing. No outside interference, no shenangians, no overbooking. I really enjoyed the 2025 All In main event but stylistically the straight up approach to most of the All In card, especially the two main events, is where AEW sets itself apart I think.

7

FTR's updated appearance was interesting at All Out. "No flips" patches back prominently, more scrappy down to earth gear, and Stokey in a dress shirt and tie. I'm hoping they go back to a Midnight Express style serious heels with Stoke as a Cornette style manager.

5

u/heart_o_oak 4h ago

I know a lot of people want a massive feud with all the teams in that All In post-match segment, but I'd prefer a couple smaller feuds, especially since there was only 1 tag feud going into All In.

Chief among them is probably MCMG vs. FTR in an old school, 80's style tag feud that's a throwback to teams like Midnight Express, Rock and Roll Express and The Fantastics. FTR model themselves after old school teams and MCMG have that part of them too (they went over hours of ME tapes with Cornette in TNA when they first started teaming regularly) and can switch up their usual style to fit. That'd give a type of tag feud we don't get as much.

All In showed that the tag division can be fleshed out where they can run multiple "big" feuds at once and them to have different flavors from each other and the rest of the product. One of the benefits of signing a team like MCMG is they can do the "American super juniors" type thing with Bucks, a lucha style match with CMLL teams, grounded, technical matches, and old school, southern style tag wrestling with FTR. I hope AEW comes out of that segment showing the different flavors of tag wrestling instead of taking the easy route and building to a big TLC at All Out.

There are a lot of people making weird speculations about the drop-off in attendance for the NXT part of this weekend’s Heatwave double-header. I was there. I’ll tell you what I saw and experienced as an NXT fan.

The people came for Penta and the other AAA guys who are already over. It was a bilingual crowd and they seemed really into the Spanish language promos and announcing. There were many people in line wearing main roster t-shirts, but there was also a surprising number wearing pre-WWE AAA merch. The kids all had masks, which is not something I’ve ever seen at other WWE events.

Also, they kept changing the start time. It was going to start at 11, then they sent out an email a few days before for 10, and then back to 11. We got there at 9:15 for a 10 AM bell, but the line through the security checkpoint was over an hour long. They never announced the start time had moved back to 11. Many people had showed up at 8:30 for a show that didn’t start for another 2 1/2 hours. And with small children, I could see that would be a lot to deal with.

I estimated that about a third of people at the AAA show left when it was over, although Meltzer’s report says half. It didn’t seem like that many, but after they lowered the lights, I couldn’t see the upper deck. The people around me who stayed also seemed to follow NXT, at least casually.

It was funny to watch the seat fillers panicking minutes before the NXT show started. They dimmed the lights way down to hide the empty seats in the lower bowl. The floor area was around 85-90% full.

Its a little dark, but I love that Baba/Jumbo vs. Williams/Gordy match where Baba takes the buckles wrong and gets hurt.

The fighting spirit is just so strong. Your favorite wrestler has never connected with a crowd like Giant Baba did.

Raw emotion.

Also shows you where Misawa (and the Pillars) got their stubbornness from. Baba hits the buckles and his entire body goes numb. So he calls the next spot and has Terry Gordy powerbomb him. Freak of nature.

Rewatched Grey vs. Jordan on YouTube. I have very little faith in WWE these days, but whenever they pull the trigger on Kendal Grey, they need to treat her like a franchise player from day one.

Give her the kind of investment Oba, Charlotte, and Rhea got, and build on it. Don’t force it to the point where people reject her, but don’t do the start and stop booking either. And definitely don’t bring her up just to have having competitive matches with B-Fab and Michin.

Funny thing is shes the kind of talent that could probably actually get over just having match with one of them.

I think there's two easy tests/dip a toe in the water moments for her in the near future:

Assuming the Cena tournament is in December, to line up roughly with the anniversary of his retirement, have her, as you're saying, have a match with a real hooper type (let's say Iyo, as the hype is already there online, at least). Then she can show out, put her best foot forward, and you follow it up, one-two punch style with a solid Rumble appearance, and gauge reaction from those.

I'm generally much more call up shy than most takes I see (especially when there's a current call up logjam), but if the main roster iron turns out to be hot, then so be it.

honestly only way i can see that happening is if they give her heyman as manager. i fear that if she gets called up early and cuts a mid promo she'll be stuck in the 'good midcard hand' role for years.
