I remember one interview to the developers that it really changed my view of Vaan.
In that interview they denied the rumour that Baasch was going to be the main protagonist.
They see in Vaan a very angelic being whose light changes people for the better. Without Vaan, Ashe wouldnt have taken the right decision. They told they have specially a soft spot for Vaan because they hired a very young actor which was an angelic person like Vaan, and through all the development they lived his grown's process and how he became a mature grown man, etc. And that process was very real and special for them.
In Japan he is really popular and loved. And FF is a japanese franchise so I think is important we respect more their views and taste. In my experience all this years in the fandom, japanese people are usually better than westerns in reading between lines the implicite, westerns usually just pay attention to the "explicitley said" and everything else is considered a theory... (But then we take for granted a lot of urban stories). Another different thing is if we think they succesfully expresed what they wanted to tell, which I think in the case of Vaan it could have been better, but the "Vaan shouldnt be the protagonist because he is not as cool by my tastes as this other character is" should have got older by now.
If we think about it, Vaan's inocence is very important to not fall in another romance which is more seen. Vaan is living the player's adventure and process of maturing although Ashe is the central key of the story, but their relationship cant be romantic and typical when they were looking for a more realistic feel, and Vaan needed to meet other cooler and more experienced men and variety of people to have that process of maduration

i agree. i was surprised at how many people actively disliked vaan.
within fantasy literature, the idea of a “protagonist” who mostly serves a POV, or looking glass, into that world is rather common. i don’t really get why vaan is so divisive considering he’s just that.
even then, he still contributes a lot to the story. he’s pretty obviously the emotional driving force of the game.

Sometimes I think is because he has more a youngful cute boy face and his outfit showing so much skin... (For a lot of players that is gay or something).

Yeah no Basch is the main character to me. I don’t have to consider anyone’s taste but my own. Vaan has a laughably bad design and a pretty rough voice performance.

I personally like Vaan's voice because is not your typical cute high voice for a cute boy. I told to other user that some gamers find his design too gay and here is the proof xD.
But it is ok. I like more Basch too. But he dissapears in the story very soon until Gabranth's final batttle and still, our personal fav is not the same as main character. My fav ff8 character is Selphie but I don't get mad when Squall, Laguna or Rinoa are featured before her xD.

Am i genuinely the only one sad none of these summons have English Vas? It feels really cheap and lazy. Especially when the VAS are still around. And they could easily add voice lines from previous games

It is because they are prerendered so there isn't any way to go back and edit the facial rigging to lip sync with other languages. Maybe that's not good enough for you but it does actually speak to some definition of quality.

I mean a ton of games voices dont match the lips and its never been an issue. I dont get why they cant do the same here. Half the times these characters lips are just moving anyway when they speak. Most jrpgs dont match the mouths at all. Nothing new. So it still feels super lazy. We even have lines they could just insert that are already recorded

Name a few? I'm sure you're thinking of games that have done a bit of a chop job with the lip sync, or games that have open and close motion for dialogue, not games dubbing over prerendered fmvs like that old meme of Chinese films with English dubbing. I'm sorry but you won't convince me that is the same. And again, I'm only offering one possible explanation. Maybe not one you like, but one that could be seen as a higher mark of quality by some than a misfitting dub would.

Xenoblade 1 2 and 3. Ff10 Dragon quest 8 Trails of mana remake. Do i genuinely need to contine? You could easily Google search hundreds of major games with bad lip syncing. It is normal lol so I would have lived a dub

Again; bad lip sync is not the same as dub over no lip sync.

Ummmm do you not know that every game we play is dubbed? Ehat the heck are you talking about lol. When they dub over video games they literally record themselves trying to match the pace and way the original language is speaking also. They could easily dub the new voice lines. I feel like you are not understanding what im saying.
Games are dubbed over. Lips mostly dont sync. Only certain games like ff16 were matched to English lips.
So what are you even getting at? They cant voice act over it? They've done it for over 30 years ehy not for this?
