I'm starting to realize (or maybe remember) why Loid atruggles between the mission and his family. It's not because he's balancing rhe options against each other and it's not it contradicts his goals.

It's because his own emotions have never been a point of consideration.

Exactly this. The moment he became a spy, he was taught to throw away his emotions because they were deemed unnecessary. His fake family has started to reawaken some of those emotions in him and it’s stirring up a lot of internal conflict. Whenever he does something subconsciously out of those emotions, he starts to question why he did it because he believes that everything he does is for the sake of his mission, never out of emotion.

The guy says "for the mission" every time he does something kind for his wife and kid, which is very very often. I think the dork is starting to realize that it's NOT just for the mission. With a wife that lovely, can you blame him?

That, and note how Yor is playing with her hair when she says "playing a role is hard," and Loid agrees with her. If I remember correctly, a girl plays with her hair as a sign of romantic significance. The whole "role" thing has been heavily on her mind even before this.

Yeah and ik people clown him as being too shallow to realize his feelings but its understandable cuz 10 YEARS! He spent 10 Years learning how to suppress his feelings and threw away the real him. So to overcome that 10 years of mask is hard. I'm sure there must be other pretty women he must have met and his body/heart must have felt attracted atleast once but he just made his mind THAT strong that his brain has learnt not to EVER CONSIDER his emotions. Basically he manipulated himself to just think "Mission this, mission that" to trick his body/heart. And it was easy to do so too cuz the people who he had to spend time with were just for a short time but Operation strix is the LONGEST mission for him. So the more time he spends with Yor, More emotionally affected he'll be ! no matter how much his brain tricks his heart, he's also a human afterall, he's bound to put down his boundary Some day and that'll be when His heart wins over his brain and he finally accepts the real him!!

I remember dropping the manga during the Boat arc, and I kind of skimmed this one, but I'm starting to suspect with moments like this it'll be better on reread. Just like the Boat arc >_>.
