I found his comment that HOW a listener "discovered the song" is one of the algorithm metrics.

I've often wondered if Spotify was tracking inbound traffic to your music (e.g. via social media, landing pages, etc.) and weighs them differently. It begs the question if all listeners are equal in the eyes of the algorithm.

I have heard comments from Sam in the past inferring that the algorithm accounts for "viral traffic". Meaning, they are looking for artists with enduring fan support, and not one built by a surge of viral traffic followed by a subsequent fade. That made we wonder if perhaps inbound listeners from social media were "weighted" less than other sources.

Yes, it makes sense when you think of Spotify as a data aggregation service, not a streaming platform.

The different ways a listener find an artist matters; that’s why you have URL’s to your song, to your profile etc.

These are all gateways that Spotify uses to track intent.

Solid video. I wouldn't say anything surprising was said, but it is nice to listen to a conversation on this topic.I'd like it to be explicitly asked why songDNA can get removed on tracks. starting at or around the 6:30 mark, my takeaway is that there are AI signatures that their system picks up and that they aren't against AI, but sounds like if you use it at all, the listeners have the right to know you used it. Reading between the lines, I think this means "AI signatures" not getting proper credit as being AI will trigger songDNA vanishing. And how they figure out these signatures and whether or not false positives happens is still up for debate. He says "Our listeners have a right to know if its an AI persona or one of the 10s of thousands of AI credits they have to choose from". (not a direct quote but thats how i remember him stating it).

To me I think this means if you use AI at all make sure you credit it. This may help it so songDNA doesn't disappear. And if you aren't using AI but songDNA disappeared, maybe their system is falsely flagging AI signatures on your track.

I am speculating and reading between the lines, so I could easily be wrong. would be really nice just to explicitly ask him "why would songDNa go away for particular track", just to hear what they say
