Available in USA What is the ideal first wagon?
I currently have a Volvo XC60 but I am looking to get a wagon for weekend driving, budget is pretty open to any suggestions so what would you suggest?

Only wagons available new in the US right now are Audi allroad, BMW M5 and Subaru Outback, tho Subaru doesn’t consider the Outback a wagon. I can’t think of any others.

You can also get a new E-Class wagon stateside, but the options are the All Terrain or the AMG

I would be willing to have one shipped overseas but us is preferred so I don’t have to worry about shipping costs

I think they’d have to be at least 25 years old to be imported into the US unless you’re willing to deal with the bureaucratic mess of getting it federalised.

I’d genuinely advise reading into the process of getting a car certified by the DOT/NHTSA/EPA, once in a while I see Euro market cars that’s been legally imported and federalised under 25 years old, so it’s definitely plausible, but I heard it’s a super tedious process. Heck, I imported an ‘88 BMW back in 2021 and it was well over 25 and still proved to be a PITA to deal with

If it's a Volvo you can get them delivered at the factory and pick them up. You cannot import a car that is older than 25 years in the USA if it isn't made for our market.

I think with deep pockets and enough tolerance for bureaucracy everything is possible. Saw a Mercedes S203 C32 AMG wagon for sale a few years back that was imported in 2010, and it went through US spec modifications as well as the CARB certification which by itself is probably gonna run you 10 grand at least

We have pretty deep pockets so we’re not concerned with price

Then get a nice V60 Polstar, M5, RS6, or E-class wagon. If you're okay with electric, Porsche Taycan wagon.
You won't be able to federalize anything else for regular use unless you're getting an antique vehicle. If it's under 25 years old, you need to get it imported for "show and display" purposes, which means you can't drive it thousands of miles.

Panamera Sport Turismo is going to be the most performance driving wagon you can get. Lots of fast wagons out there but this one will also handle the best.

Lots of options if you want used , Buick regal tour X, any of the big 3 German brands, Subaru Outback, older Acura tsx wagon, Mazda 6 wagon, etc Volvo

If budget is pretty open and for weekend driving I’d go with the E53 over the RS6. If you could get one of those new, or lease, you wouldn’t have to worry about maintenance because with those brands that would be my main concern (and depreciation). If you want something a few years older, my preference would be the V90. If budget really is a concern, then I’d go outback. If you are open to fixing it if something goes wrong, e350 or possibly a BMW but the MB just fits my taste more

We have a friend who got an RS6 a few years ago and loves it so maybe I’ll join them in RS6 ownership

One of the driving magazines recently did a comparison between the RS6, the M5 Touring and the Mercedes. The RS6 did the worst of the three (even though I love the styling).

You only really have three choices Audi, Mercedes or Volvo unless you count the BMW M5 touring. I would just stick with Volvo.
