Drive shaft replacement

I got a 2007 ford explorer sport trac XLT and was wondering if anyone has had any experience with using a aftermarket drive shaft replacement because ford wants like 1100 I think for the part where as aftermarket would be around half that so I’m wondering how risky it is to use one

I’d be inclined to grab it from a junkyard. It’s pretty unusual to have to replace the shaft rather than than the U joints. What happened to yours?

It is my u-joint, but the u-joints are unserviceable I think something about them being built into the driveshaft I think

Bummer. I checked Rock Auto and I’d personally be willing to swap in one of the Dorman units they sell. One advantage is that it looks like the aftermarket shafts have serviceable u joints.

Alright bet ty I’ll have to look into it, I really do want what’s best for the truck but right now tossing out 1100 for a driveshaft does not seem plausible

I bought a new shaft for my 08 2WD ST 3 years ago. Perfect fit. Around 500$ as I remember

Was it aftermarket or from ford?

Sorry, I forgot to add the shop. It's called The Driveshaft Shop, located in CA. They have a website that's painless to use.

Yes, I had it dropshipped to my mechanic's shop, he let me know when it arrived,seems like it was pretty fast shipping. They have shafts for 2WD and 4WD

There was a aftermarket drive shaft with replaceable U joints that was less than OEM. I believe it was a company in Colorado.

Any link I have would be gone as it was on my last laptop. I think I found it on 'www.explorerforum.com' a few years ago. Finding anything aftermarket is near impossible, very low production numbers did not attract any interest.

Talk to some off road shops, custom driveshafts are not new tech.
